Ford vehicle
I purchased this vehicle w/40,000 mil. on it. Had to return to dealer within 1 month with transmission problems. The transmission has had problems ever since. All the dash lights keep coming on from abs, airbag, 4wd to engine light. Rear end problems as well as bearings. I loved my first explorer which was a 95 and I never replaced a thing, drove it to 200,000 mil and it still ran. This vehicle is a lemon, I hate it. Can't wait to replace it. Side mirrors don't work, back up alarm doesn't work, tranny slips, noisy and has been to the garage 2 times for quitting and not re-starting. I know many people with the same problems as mine. I feel the ford quality has really slipped!
Excellent
Ive had my explorer for 6 years now. Purchased it with 120,000 miles, on a rebuilt motor for $3500 in near mint condition. It handles amazing. Very comfortable ride. I did have the seals done, around 220,000 not cheap but well worth it, as it now is STILL going strong with 271,000!! RELIABLE, always started right up even in brutal winter weather. Taking it to FL and back next week from IL.

Very pleased with my Explorer Limited
It shocks me how well this SUV drives. The steering feels so good that now when I drive other cars, it feels like they are lacking power steering. The audiophile sound system is the best "stock" stereo system I have heard! The door handles are placed near the front of the door so you need to pull the handle and push the door open with your elbow. The door locks are right underneath the handle and you can’t see the locks from where you are sitting looking down. So when I have guests, I need to remember to press the "unlock doors" switch for them or it won't be long before they start cursing at me to let them out.
Mixed Feelings
While I have not had any mechanical trouble with my Limited 2wd, I have numerous problems with fit and workmanship. The combination of DVD and Sunroof does not seem to be a winning combo. There does not seem to be enough support for the DVD system, as a result there are numerous creaks, groans and rattles right above my head. The hatch and hatch window's plastic panels are also loose and I have shored these up with foam pieces jammed around the panels. The ride is much rougher than I anticipated. Overall looks and features are great, however I am extremely disappointed in the ride and workmanship of the interior.
I JUST LOVE IT!
I owned a 99 Eddie Bauer that was fully loaded, and what I thought was perfect until I got my new Limited. Anything that I didn't realize wasn't convenient on the E.B., quicky became clear. The new design has so much more space, drives and handles like a sports car but has all of the luxuries of a high end sedan. Though, I had most of the same features on my E.B., they have been improved upon. It has such a clean look inside and out. I almost purchased a Volvo. The same safety features the salesman impressed upon, are present on my Limited. I've never owned a car more than 2 yrs, but I drove my E.B. for five years. I may keep this one 10.
