Used 1999 Ford Explorer SUV Consumer Reviews
I Recommend this Truck
GOOD LOOKING AND EASY TO HANDLE. WIFE LOVED IT. THE HEIGHT FROM THE GROUND GIVES GOOD CLEAREACE IS JUST RIGHT FOR NY POT HOLES. THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE WIPERS WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP THE WIPERS WOULD START AND WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN OFF. I HAVE BEEN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS AND IT IS STILL A PROBLEM.
First SUV
This is my first truck!! Since i got it i loved it!! The only problem is that after i got it i had some problems with the transmission. But since it was certified by ford it was all covered. I have done over 5,000 miles in two months and i know that it will be able to keep up with my crazy driving habits

Best Vehicle Ever!
I know you wont believe me, but this is the best vehicle we have ever had. It is approaching 175,000 miles with virtually NO major repairs. I commute 30 miles each way to work, never have been broken down, and no problems at all. I purchased at 90,000 miles. It is a little narrow in the front seating, so a large person would probably be uncomfortable. 4WD works awesome; the gas mileage is killing us though. We pull our horse trailer and also large hay wagons for our horses. It has the power to do it.
Reliable, amazing in snow
I bought this truck right before the new model designs came out. Bad move - the resale value dropped through the floor. Other than that, this truck has been extremely reliable, especially useful in the Minnesota winters. Very fun to drive in snow, and the V8 really gets her on the highway quick. Only troubles in last 3 years were the spark plug wires had to be replaced, front washer squirters got weak, and the rear wiper stopped working temporarily.
Not enough room
I bought a used Ford Explorer XLT with 43000 miles to haul around stuff every once in a while. The only problem is that the rear window is not 4 feet wide so you can't haul plywood or sheetrock inside the car!! Some other SUVS in the same class like Isuzu Trooper you CAN haul plywood inside. Its a fun car but not big enough if you're looking to move stuff around for home projects.
