solid performa
Great car, never any problems. Returned to dealer on three recalls and firestone swap.
Still Kicking!
Bought this SUV in 3/00 w/ nearing 165K mi in it. Starts up easily and still runs great. Lots of traveling and daily driving to work. New fuel pump, thermostat, some minor emission parts due to engine indicator lights on. Rear differential was the only major repair. 4WD only during snow season. Flowmaster muffler & K&N air filter. No oil or transmission leak. In shop only when needed major service and/or repair and I can't do it myself. Better and low reading on the last emission test before I made those minor emission parts changed. Guaranteed it will pass the '04 emission test easily and another 100Kmi or more depending on the new owner.

Best SUV out there
I am attached to my Explorer. It has tons of room, a solid feel, great looks, reliability, and versatility. I have 92,000 miles on the car and it runs strong. Great in snow, and has never burned a drop of oil. No electronic glitches or pointless repairs. Easy to work under the hood, and cheap to fix. Lots of torque in the engine, and has a nice jump off the line. Nice sound system, and barrage of features all for a nice price. Needed few repairs, a starter at 85,000, and alternator at 89,000...but that was my fault (dont use power washer under hood). Awesome car, good work Ford!
Trusty Steed
I bought this truck new and have never owned a more useful or reliable vehicle (22+ cars/trucks over the years). With over 146K miles it continues to look & perform very good, and still has no squeaks or rattles. The only mechanical failures I've had were the front sway bar links (recall item) and an idler pulley at 105K. Over the past few thousand miles I've noticed a very slight delay in the transmission engaging when I shift from park to reverse and occasionally hear a soft "thunking" coming from the front transfer case, but can't find anything else to complain about. I love this truck! I'd highly recommend these older series of Explorers (95-00).
My 'Eddie' has taken care of me
Bought this 6 cylinder SUV in '99 with 43k miles and currently has 135k miles on it. Hadn't had ANY major problems with it until now -- transmission needs a rebuild as I write this. But primarily have just done routine basic maintenance and it has served well. It still runs well -- no engine noise, leaks, etc. but the 2nd gear is shot. Still looks good and am hoping that after repair this vehicle will continue to serve me well for as many years as I can get out of it. Good value for the money.
