I have had Ford Edge Sport for the past 2 months. These words come to my mind: Solid, Fun, Sporty and a delight to drive. Blind spot monitoring, Lane Departure Warning and gentle nudge back to the lane, excellent blue tooth are all technological pluses. Steering, handling are top class. Very quiet inside, very little road noise. Quite roomy especially the second row and adequate cargo. Overall, quite impressive.

2.7L Twin Turbo V6 has serious ooomph

Mechanical: 1) The 2.7L twin turbo V6 puts out some serious power at 315 HP and 350 FT LBS torque. The technology in the engine is shared with Fords Powerstroke Diesel in that the engine block is made from compacted graphite iron. It is quiet as a sewing machine but does make some nice sounds when you put the go-pedal down. 2) Two small turbochargers vs. one large one equate to virtually undetectable turbo lag. This is a very good thing. 3) The Sport has a very dialed in suspension for a stock vehicle. In all honesty this crossover thinks it is a sports car. Interior: 1) The suede/leather in our Sport is better quality than expected. Seats are very comfortable and interior is mostly devoid of the cheap plastic feel I abhor in many vehicles (think GM). Fit/Finish: 1) Our Edge is the black metallic. It looks great and I have gone over the car with a fine tooth comb and everything is spot on. I am a Toyota guy (Edge is my girlfriends driver) and do not suffer manufacturers that produce poor fit and finish. I am impressed with the Edge. Value/Competitors: 1) Thus far the Edge Sport has been worth every dime of its cost. My girlfriend originally wanted to look at the Nissan Murano and I started looking at other crossovers for her to consider as the Nissan CVT transmission has a far less than stellar reliability rating and resale value leaves a lot to be desired. Both of us agreed that the Edge Sport is better looking, way better performing and overall a better value than the competition. No GM vehicles were considered, several other manufacturers were. Summary: 2500 miles on the vehicle and thus far 100% happy.

Sports Car In a Practical Package

UPDATE May 2020: I’ve had it for over a year now and I’m still absolutely loving my 2015 Edge Sport AWD. We completed a roughly 2500 mile road trip, and even loaded down we managed close to 30mpg, which is 6mpg higher than rated. I’ve also completed several rounds of maintenance, including tires, battery, brake pads and rotors (@ about 50k miles) and a few oil changes. The car has been an absolute breeze to work on. Everything so far has been pretty easily accessible and straight forward. It’s an absolute blast to drive when I want it to be, but comfortable and smooth over the highway. At this point I’m pretty much sold on the LMS tune, and am considering a custom exhaust to make it sound a little better. A couple of things I’ve noticed, but weren’t worth taking off a star: Lug Nuts: I’m not sure if they are the same across rim sizes, but on my Sport’s 21s They use a 2 piece design with a hollow cap. If the lugs are overtightened as mine were when I bought it, they will literally rip apart when trying to loosen. I had to peel apart the outer shell when removing mine to get at the solid nut underneath in order to break them loose. This type of lug is fairly common these days, and I was removing the lugs to replace with black locking lugs anyway (which I love the look of with the dark gray rims). Tires: The stock 21” Pirelli tires wear significantly faster in the front than the rear. I know more wear is to be expected in the front, but these are wearing 4-5x faster than the rear. After only 3 months and 3-4k miles on brand new tires the front tires were visibly more worn, and that is with a vast majority of highway driving. As such I’ve found I need to rotate my tires twice as often as I change my oil to keep the wear somewhat balanced. Original Review: I needed a family sized SUV, capable of hauling my family 4 and all of our stuff. But I wanted a sports car. Turns out, you can have both. The Edge Sport is really in a league of it's own in today's crowded SUV/Crossover market. I have driven plenty of SUV's during my search for the right vehicle, and didn't find another SUV that could really compare to the Edge Sport on all fronts. For me, it has the perfect balance of performance, handling, value, features, and practicality. There's a spacious and comfortable passenger compartment with good styling, decent materials, and convenient features. The Sync 2 infotainment system is OK, and I would say on par with other infotainment systems from the time. It doesn't compare to CarPlay, but CarPlay also didn't exist when it was built. The real reason to buy the Edge Sport though is the engine and performance. This 2.7L, 315HP, 350ft/lbs torque, EcoBoost V6 is the real deal. So is the 5.6 second 0-60 time the Edge Sport boasts. This thing was practically built to embarrass unsuspecting red light challengers. Twin turbos erase turbo-lag, and there's no turbo whine to speak of coming from the engine. In fact, the engine is very quiet, and is kept to a low growl even under the hardest acceleration. A louder and more aggressive exhaust note is actually something I wish Ford would have gone with here. Ford did a nice job of beefing up the suspension on the Sport model, and with the addition of the 21" wheels and AWD on mine, it handles more like a true sports car. Body roll is pretty much non-existent, which is impressive given how heavy and tall this vehicle is. I've already driven through snow/sleet/rain and have always felt confidently in control. Steering is very light, however, and very electronically assisted, which is again something I wish Ford would have taken into consideration given the sports car nature. Steering stiffens at higher speeds, but the winding country roads where I live don't allow for me to reach those kinds speeds and I'm left with soft steering through the the twisties. Fuel economy has been in line with estimates for me. I've easily been able to maintain 21-22mpg combined, which isn't great, but is again in line with most other SUV's, and most of those don't come close to the performance offered by the Edge Sport. Overall this adds up to a great package, whether your picking up 10 bags of mulch while hauling your kids (as I did this past weekend) or out for a spirited drive through the country, the Edge Sport won't disappoint.

BMW performance on a budget

I was originally going to buy a Taurus SHO but decided the Edge Sport would be more practical for my specific needs. I have owned many cars over the years and put a lot of miles on some pretty bad roads in all types of weather, unfortunately I can't comment on the Edge's winter performance yet. What I can tell you is that this crossover is absolutely great on the highway and very pleasant to drive in an urban environment. It's quite, and soaks up bumps and irregularities in uneven road surfaces like a big luxury car. What it doesn't do is have a ton of body roll or wobbly feeling like a lot of vehicles in this segment. I suspect this is due to the stiffer springs and bigger anti sway bars on the sport model. Cargo storage and access is very good, the stereo is better than average, the navigation system is pretty straight forward and loads fast, visibility is also good, however I personally find the inability to turn the lane departure system completely off rather annoying as I don't always use turn signals so that little shudder it sends through the steering column when I'm passing is a bit distracting. Yes, it has bunch of bells and whistles but the real reason to buy this thing is the engine. The 2.7 v6 twin turbo is absolutely incredible. The power is very linear and triple digits happen in the blink of an eye. The thing is you never realize how fast your accelerating until you look at the speedometer or the line of cars in the rear view mirror and it does it so smoothly and quite. It's not a Corvette or Porsche 911 but I can assure you an X5 or Lexus is going to be embarrassed if they challenge you on the 4 lane. My point is to find the level of technology and performance you find under the hood of this thing you would have to spend a lot more and it will be from Europe.

Loved this car - how it looked, how it ran, the great deal I negotiated ..... about 18 months in I started having wind noise at higher speeds that they tried 5 times to fix but it got progressively worse. 6 months later you would swear there was a swarm of bubble bees right by the rear view mirror - we could not even hear the radio. Ford gave me no hassles on the Lemon Law process. I got every penny back including extended warranties and accessories with just the standard small usage fee as required by law. I was sad because I really did love it otherwise. In the end I got s Honda Pilot. 4 year newer model, bigger car and since I got the Elite it has ever feature. My payments are the same as before.
