If you make several short trips a day, you will use no gas. It go's about 21 miles on all electricity before it switches to hybrid mode, which it does very smoothly. On a long trip of about 1000 miles, all hybrid I got 43 miles per gal. I normally drive about 15 miles a day back and forth to work and never use gas. It cost about .60cents to fully charge the batteries. So the cost of electricity, equal to the cost of gas, would give you about 100 MPG depending on the price per gallon of gas. * UPDATE - I have had the car for 3 years and still love it. Only had to replace the battery that initiates the starting of the car. There is a separate 12volt battery in the back of the car next to the battery pack. The dealer didn't know that and it took a day for them to learn about that. ** Edmunds shows this as a 2015. It is a 2014 *UPDATE - We have had the car 5 1/2 yrs and it is still a great car. It is a plug in electric and the large battery pack only goes about 10 miles now on a full charge, then switches to hybrid mode. It gets about 38 miles per gallon on a long trip on the freeway. We have had no repairs except the fog lights quit and an electrical switch board had to be replaced under warranty. We replaced the tires at 65,000. My wife loves the car.

10,000 miles, 9 months. Getting 44 MPG all around. Very quiet, extremely comfortable, good performance. Have had zero issues. This is the first new car I have owned that hasn't had some defect in the first year. Better than 2 new Toyota's I have owned. Gauges / dash info system is excellent. Sound system is excellent. Fit/finish excellent. Glad to buy a car like this made in Michigan by UAW. 5/2018; 52,000 miles. We still absolutely love this car. No issues whatsoever. Had a couple of recall items which were handled by our dealer quickly and efficiently. We’d definitely buy another. In fact, our satisfaction with this car led us to purchases a 2018 Fusion Hybrid which we now have in addition to the C-Max. Update 11/16. 34,000 miles, 32 months. We love this car. It has been every bit as reliable as two previous Toyotas we have owned. We considered the Prius before purchasing the C-Max, but found the Ford offered much more car for the money including more features and technology (ours has the park assist option). We would definitely buy this car again. Update 12/18. 58,000 miles. We still love our C-Max, so much so that we would buy another if we could. We are sad that they have been discontinued. We did however, buy a Fusion hybrid for our daughter and we like it too.

I LOVE my C-Max. I've had it since the end of July and have 3,700 miles on it. I've averaged 44 mpg on my daily commute over several hills. The colder weather has now dropped it down to 39 mpg but that is still excellent. The ride is quiet, the seats are comfortable, and the Ford MyTouch/Sync system was very easy to figure out and is very easy to use. On my second year and still love this car - still average 44 mpg on my daily commute in the spring/summer/fall and 40 during the winter months. My only complaint on this car is it is hard to park so I would recommend to anyone to get the auto parking feature.

Bought a 2014 SEL for $14,900 with 5000 miles. Great value used car. Not a good car to buy new due to depreciation. Excellent ride and easy to get in and out of. Close to work? Never pay for gas again to commute a short distance!

What I don't understand is why Ford doesn't push these cars 24-7. They have the same engine (Atkinson) as the Toyota Prius but in my opinion, they are a much nicer , roomier vehicle. I also prefer the CMAX steering and drivability of the CMAX. I cannot begin to count the n umber of people who ask me, "What kind of car is that?' When I say it is a CMAX, inevitably they respond by saying "Never heard of that." When I say it is made by Ford in the US and mine is getting 44MPG (regular) they gasp for air and, usually repeat, "I've never heard of them." Ford dealers I go to do not stock them and don't even have brochures. It is a great car and I highly recommend people go for a drive in one (if they can find one:-(-
