Very nice vehicle. I've owned plenty of these in the pass and they've all been quite reliable. Of course that's if you can keep it in stock form. The mod bug can come in if you start.
5spd manual AWD drivetrain. DOHC 2.0L turbocharged and intercooled. Very nice set up for some get up and go power without sacrificing driveability. AWD is great in the snow and rain. With snow tires, it's almost unstoppable.
Transmission. Better shifting transmission. Maybe they should've went with the Mitsubishi Evo tranmission or at least the internal parts. The cupholder should've been in a better place. Hate havin to have the arm rest up just to have your drinks stay in place.
As of 2009 replacement parts are becoming next to impossible, electronic part failure may mean weeks with out a running vehicle. I purchased mine new in 1991 and loved it. But like having an elderly dog it comes time to put it down. "was" a great car.... If your looking at picking one up cheap, there's a reason its a good deal, you will be forking over money to your mechanic hand over fist.
Sporty, zippy car. It's been very reliable for me and still running strong at 184,000 mi. Standard timing belt issues -- I didn't change at 75k when my mechanic told me to change and spent $1800 for my stupidity. At this age, finding a good source of used parts is key, as you will need to replace them.
Very sporty feel, nimble. Both of my teens love driving this car.
Interior designed for someone shorter. No cup holder. Some design issues weren't completely thought out (like emergency brake adjustment). No space to work in engine (belts are impossible to access).
Overall this has been a great car!
While it's not loaded with power, it's
still fun to drive, handles very well.
Corners well. Interior is very
comfortable and it rides very
comfortably for a sports car.
Talking to others with the same vehicle
and through my experience, the timing
belt seems to go out between 80-100K
miles. If you replace it, be sure you
also replace the tensioner or you'll
have the same problem again.
