Bought thi vehicle brand new and have only 250 KM's but can say that it is very nice for a family of four. I love the new 3.6 L engine which provides a very smooth ride. This vehicle feels solid when it drives and very quiet compared to the Honda CR-V that I previously owned. It is still early to give an honest review but up to this point.....I love it!

I have a good friend who sells Dodge and Jeep vehicles, and I have wanted to buy a car from him for years. Unfortunately, I have not been enamored with the vehicles in the Dodge/Jeep stable for a long time. But after reading a review of the 2011 Dodge Journey, I decided to take a courtesy test drive before buying an Equinox, RAV 4 or Versa. Wow...an Everyman's Lexus. I bought one and am thrilled with everything but the mediocre gas mileage (an unfortunate trait of the entire segment). My Journey is simply a great car. Period.

I cannot honestly find anything not to like about my 2011 Dodge Journey R/T. Styling is great. Even though its a CUV, it retains much of the muscle appeal of the Charger/Challenger. The interior is very well thought out. Touch screen works flawlessly and very fast. Tons of storage space. Third row is small, but when folded down there is ample space for gear while still maintaining room for 4 adults to fit comfortably. I have found the engine/transmission to be quick and quiet. It's no V-8 Hemi but it will move with some giddy-up when pushed. I've had it up to over 100mph with two bikes on the roof, two passengers, the back full of gear, and it didn't hesitate getting there either.

I am posting this providing information due to problems with the dodge journey. People say it fails to start when turning the key yet all the lights come on, (dead battery syndrome), if you have an immobolizer equipped remove it , they new immobolizers are built so they can be activate which shuts down the vehicles . This is a problem because it malfunctions causing the ignition not to engage and loss of power as some say, the dead battery syndrome also happens on my 2001 dodge ram 1500, my brothers 1994 dodge neon and the work truck a 2005 gmc sierra all have immobolizers and this is what is causing the problem. Do not do it all the time but the odd time when u least expect it!

Unless you want a minivan this is the best alternative. The positive difference in build quality between the 2010 and 2011 models is stark. It has a powerful and smooth engine and a decent transmission. Ride is extremely smooth and quiet so obviously the suspension and build engineering was done right. It drives and feels like a more expensive car than it is. Keeping fingers crossed that we don't encounter any of the battery/starter issues but at least we're informed. Thanks for the info.

2011 Dodge Journey - Starting Problems

One day after I purchased my 2011 Dodge Journey Crew in April 2011 it failed to start while sitting in my driveway overnight. It has now been towed to the dealer three times with the same problem and the same result. Something is draining the battery but we can't find it and Chrysler doesn't have any solutions because they are not aware of the problem. I now feel we can no longer trust the reliability of our new car. It could leave us stranded anywhere at any-time. If the power fails & systems shut down while driving at highway speeds, could a power failure of this type cause an accident? So far I rate my car as Dangerous & Unreliable.

Well it seems that I have joined an elite group. I bought a 2011 LUX in April and have only seen it for about 3 weeks. It sure likes the dealers lot more than my garage. I have 2300 miles on it and most of which has been put on by the dealership. They test drive it alot and take it home for the week-end to see if they can get it to duplicate the problems. The battery goes dead for no appearent reason. The engineers can't figure it out. Dodge at first said that there were no appearent problems, then I showed them all the issues that you all have posted. It was sure an eye opener to them!!!!!Today I got a phone call for them telling me that I have to talk to Chyrsler.

I will start of with the negative. I don't like where the front cup holders are located. I don't think I can fairly comment on Build Quality and Reliability because I just started driving the car. So far so good. BTW. I could afford any SUV, wagon, etc. I wanted. Tried the Benz-seat sides hard.Ouch. Plus there are silly bars in the middle. BMW-yes it's great, but mmmm is it worth the price? I literally got every lux item in this car accept the name. Journey is a great design and price.

This is my first review, but felt compelled based on my impressions from our Journey. We have had our Journey for 14 months and have put on a whopping 34,00 miles. I have been extremely impressed. In the past we have owned a Durango, Envoy, and Pathfinder. Our Journey has been far and away the best. We have the 6 cylinder and the gas mileage has been fantastic. Just this week we took an instate 300 mile trip and got an incredible 28.8 mpg while the cruise was set at 77-78 mph. I know of no other SUV with a 6 cylinder that can hit these numbers. We have not had a single problem with our vehicle and have lots of extras on it with touchscreen, navigation, 3rd row, and sunroof. Big thumbs up!

I have not had a single issue with my Journey since purchasing it new in October. I was looking for a vehicle that had AWD, enough room in the back seat for a forward facing car seat as well as a rear facing car seat, and around a $25,000 price point. After looking for new and used vehicles the Journey had everything I was looking for. I got the V6 mainstreet model with the popular entertainment group and sound group which included the 8 inch radio screen. With rebates it came to just over $24,000. It came with a remote start and starts up everyday and never have had an issue. Storage is great and the kids have enough room with the driver seat being exactly where I want it.

Best Vehicle I've Ever Owned

We bought our Journey used (2 years old with 18k miles.) We've put 10k miles on it in those 2 years. We put Toyo tires on it about a year ago. The tires they put on all the new cars are crap. We put Toyos on our last vehicle, a 2002 Dodge Intrepid and they lasted five years. We also just put new brakes and rotors on. The rotors had warped. Apparently that's a common issue with the Journeys. We put cross drilled rotors and ceramic brake pads on. Well worth the money- keeps the rotors from getting too hot and warping.

Dead battery

I too am having this problem. I have been left with a dead vehicle at least 8 times since I bought it in March of 2011. I certainly didn't spend that kind of money on a new vehicle to drive around with a battery pack for the next time it decides not to start. I have had it to the shop 4 times (it is in there now), the first time they couldn't find any problems. The second time they replaced the battery, the third time couldn't get it to replicate the problem so nothing was done and now this time they are saying the outlets are draining the battery and they've changed a module of some kind but other than that they don't have any answers. they say they have not had this problem - help!

This has been the worst 18 months of my driving life! I have had my third set of brakes just put on my car...I have 21,000 miles! I have had my radio replaced, I have random transmission shifts, no acceleration, and crappy tires! I have had my car into the shop NINE times in 18 months! I am always on the phone with the complaint line, and no one gives a crap about me or the crappy car! When my brakes fail, and I kill someone, I hope the people at Dodge are happy! I was told to talk to the owner of the dealer where I bought it....like that will do any good! IT's just horrible!

Great buy! Most of the wheel/ brake problems is likely due to the sensitivity of the emergency brake pedal and drivers being unaware it is pressed. Mechanics often put it down after service and there isn't much detection that it has been applied and you can drive for long periods with it slightly down and wear out brakes easily.

I admit, I made the mistake of trading in an 08 Chrysler Aspen with no problems (60,000 miles) for the 2011 Journey AWD in the hopes of better gas mileage. DUMB!!! Gas Mileage: 12 avg. mpg in the city & 15.8 avg. mpg on the hwy. Sound System: Broken CD player, stations change when traveling over a bump, no sound due to poor wiring located under passenger seat. OE Tires: Worn pre-maturely, Over $1000.00 to replace on a lease, unusual size & hard to find. Remote keys and push button start not communicating - car would not start Constant brake noise and grinding after 100 miles. Accelerator stopped working while driving 70 on a hwy - car died on hwy with kids in the vehicle. Lemon??

I love my Journey. My husband says I got ripped off at the dealers, but, I bought it on my own...so I suppose he could have gotten a better deal.... Anyway... I LOVE my car!! It has 148,000 miles on it and the only thing I have changed is brakes, rotors and oil (faithfully! my husband said that is the secret!) I love the interior, leather seats, (real or not) are great and have held up really really well. My sun roof has never leaked and works well. The stereo system is awesome This is the best vehicle I have owned!

Bought new on Feb 28th 2011, had problems with the battery being dead most mornings within 2 weeks. 1st trip to garage-said it was defective battery & replaced. Then a week later, same thing again. Information screen will start flashing, lights flash, won't start, and loud pulsating noises from battery area. In the garage for a week and a half, can't find any problem. Then today, battery not dead but vehicle will not start again. It attempts to but won't. Had it towed to dealer for 3rd service trip. Dodge says this is our problem not theirs. Dealer refuses to give us any loaner vehicle. Have been treated poorly by everyone! Have owned many Dodge vehicles & this is the last!

I HAVE NEVER Prayed for my warranty to expire EVER on any car; but that's just what I did with this car! Hands down it is the best car as far as size, comfort, sporty even. But, there is NO REASON, I should be looking at buying ANOTHER set of tires and BRAKES! I have 35,000 miles and need them again. I replaced all 4 tires at 17,000 miles and the brakes then too. THIS IS A defect! And from what I can tell with reading other reviews, ITS NOT ME! When I go to have my oil changed the attendants will call over their buddies to see the car that needs its third set of tires and third set of brakes. IT's STUPID. Not to mention the Rear transaxel went out at 15,000. Get a chevy!

I absloutely love my journey. I have taken it on road trips and the gas mileage is way better then what the sheet says. Highway I am averaging 30.8 mpg, and the city is 23.3 mpg. I had a 2011 Chrysler 200 and I would not change purchasing my car. I have a Great Dane, Rottweiler and Border Collie...all three fit with ample amounts of room compared to my 200. Awesome storage for their toys, food and water. Love this car!!!

refrigerated compartment does not do work, very compact, you can touch the passanger side door from the driver seat! not good if you are planning on using the third row on a regular basis. seats are hard to move. No storage when third seat is up. NO pick up when the A/C is on. The floor shifter is easily moved out of gear, yes, while driving I accidentally moved it into reverse! When I called Dodge to check on a possible recall I pretty much got told I was on my own. As a side note, the entire car is plastic, everything and the seats are extremely hard to clean, get the leather! If you looking to downsize to save gas money, this is not the car for you. Horrible gas mileage.

I bought my Journey brand new in 2011. This vehicle has been great so far. I too have had some of the same issues that I see here. Had to replace tires at 30k this is not unusual do your research all manufacturers put cheap tires on new cars. I did replace all 4 brake pads and rotors at about 50k n new problems. This vehicle is comfortable, safe and affordable I would recommend one to anyone. I cant wait to get another one in 2 years....

I purchased my Journey in Sept. Since then it has been in the shop 10 times. I cannot fuel my vehicle to full. It generally stops around 3/4. They have replaced everthing there is to replace. Then Crysler tells us that they are aware of the problem and that they "may" have a solution in July 2012. I asked for a replacement vehicle, within the NC Lemon Law statues and they denied me. I have a lawyer working on a claim. Crysler has been very ugly in this matter. Plus I have had to have all the brakes and roters replaced at 700 miles. If you are looking at this vehicle to purchase save yourself the heart ache and buy something else.

Bought 2010 Dodge Journey 8 months ago. In the last 3 months having problem with car, won't turn over. Reacts like a dead battery but everything works, radio, door chimes, lights. Neighbor tried to jumpstart but car still wouldn't start. Car finally started. Had WIN module replaced due to recall and thought that would fix the problem but 4 weeks later, car would not crank again. Took 30 minutes and over 5 tries then car finally turned over. Batter tested ok. Dealer say they can't find problem and don't think it is the starter. This is my 5th and last Dodge. I don't plan on buying another one. Too many complaints. Dont buy a Journey!

Worst vehicle I've operated. I am only happy I leased it and didn't have to keep it. Bad news was I broke my lease early because it was in the shop for major repairs too often, LEMON. New brakes and rotors after 9500 miles, really. Check engine light twice came on for camshaft issues, really. The last and final time before trading it in was it lost one of the cylinders...REALLY! Too many major problems for this SUV as well as the poor fit and finish of exterior panels. Cut my finger on the rear door edge plate. I had to sand it smooth so not to do it again. Traded after only 28 months and less than 23,000 miles. Very happy w/my new 2013 Toyota Rav4.

Please do not buy this car. The car stalled on us 5 times in the past year while driving, very dangerous! All 5 times we took it to the dealer and were told there was nothing wrong. This last time it happened, we were stranded in Mexico till a relative who owns the exact same model went to the location we were stranded at and did something to the engine since he has experienced the same issue. We took the car straight to the dealer when we got back from our trip, when we picked it up after once again being told nothing was wrong, we drove across the street to the Kia Dealer, turned in the car for a Kia Soul.

I’ve had this car about two years. The oddball tire size makes tires very expensive (tires are cheaper for my 1 ton 4X4). We are on our third radio system. The amp has been replaced twice, now the backup camera has quiet. Check Engine light keeps coming on with a code for a miss-fire. And as of recent, the front end sounds like something is breaking lose every time you get on the breaks’. This car has 24000 miles on it. The electronic gremlins live in this car. At my job we have a lot of new Dodge cars; most of them have the same type of problems.

The car in general is the perfect car for my family. Unfoutunatly the last month, the Front passenger door refuses to close. I believe it is the cold weather causing something to freeze up and cause a died door syndrom. After about 20-30 minutes the door "resets" itself. It has been to the dealer four times now and they dont understand what is wrong. They have contacted a Dodge engineer, they did what he instructed and it agian is acting up. Just about feed up, rather riduculous that I have to have my seven year old hold the door as I hold him to get this thing to the shop 20 miles away, for no one to know what the problem is. I can not be alone on this one, am I?

I have a 2011 Journey purchased in July 2011, its in teh shop for the 5th time. I havent had the dead battery issue but I've had most everything else. I think the car get scared to be alone. You get out of it and lock the doors and it fights with you blowing the horm and unlocking the door usually 3-6 times. You get in the car to start it and if you wait long enough the dash lights will start to go from bright to dim and then back and forth. The HVAC system will sometimes turn everything on high and set the temps at 84 degrees when you start the car but then the next time when you shut the car off it wont turn the HVAC system off until you open the door.

Well they say when life gives you lemons you make lemonade, but that's not always as easy as said and done. I purchased my 2010 dodge journey rt. About 2 yrs ago. Since then I too have had it in the shop more than my own garage. ( it is in the shop now.) I have the problem of the random not starting. "dead battery syndrome" as they call it. I too have tried to jump the car with no luck. Then all of a sudden it will just start. Dodge also tells me they can't find anything wrong and sends me on my way. They did however on my last visit and this visit tell it needed a computer update and that should fix the problem. Well it didn't the last time so I am not holding my breath this time.

VERY UNRELIABLE CAR

I bought this car brand new. My experience with this car has been awful. Before 100,000 miles, I needed the transmission rebuilt. This cost me $4,000. That was following a cracked coolant reservoir at 56,000 miles, differential trouble at 68,000 miles, and now a cracked thermostat housing at 107,000 miles. It is in the shop for repair multiple times a year. Additionally, the interior started falling apart immediately--the upper console doesn't close, and the driver's side visor, with mirror, had to be replaced. This car is a money pit.

Battery Problem

I have heard a lot about the battery problem in 2011 Dodge Journeys. I had this problem with mine and I took it in constantly. My dealer could not find the problem so they replaced my battery and it has been fine sense. The only thing I could complain about is how my check engine light comes on and there is no code that comes up with it.

Worst Vehicle I've ever owned

I bought it thinking it would last awhile but after having it for 5 years I am ready to burn it. I have had to replace the transmission, rear differential, and the all wheel drive. Now I'm dealing with an electrical issue that causes the radio and speedometer to glitch in and out. It doesn't affect the driving, thank goodness, but I can't control the temperature, radio, or tell how fast I am going. If I ever get rid of this car I will not look back.

Poor Head Restraint Design blocks rear window

After delivery of the Journey, I began noticing poor design issues that affected comfort and efficient use of interior space. However, my main concern was focused on a "safety" issue. The very large second row 'Head Restraints' prevented a driver from having a good and safe view of traffic from the rear window. After a week or so, I removed these 'Head Restraints'... and driving immediately became much easier and less stressful. It was now easier to see other cars in heavy traffic. It was easier when backing up. However, people in the second row would not have head protection. I eventually noticed that similar vehicle designed by other manufactures were designed with a much lower 'Head Restraint'... like the RAVA-4 for example. An automotive shop here in Charlotte said they could reduce the size of the 10" head restraints to 4"... so they would be similar to those in the other vehicles. The price for both would be $500. This absolutely had to be done. Because this is an important "safety issue", Chrysler Customer Service was contacted for reimbursement of the 'Head Restraint' alteration. Basically, they told me that I need to contact the Dealer (Keffer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep)... and then "Keffer" would tell me that "Chrysler" should do this. This went back and forth a number of times. Eventually Chrysler Customer Service said that neither the manufacturer nor the dealer can have any part in this alteration for 'legal liability reasons'. Yet at the same time both Chrysler and Keffer agreed that what I was asking for made a lot of good sense. And at the same time similar vehicles from other manufactures, such as the RAVA-4, had head restraints similar to what I needed for my Journey. All this was very frustrating, insensitive, illogical... and very wrong to a loyal Chrysler customer. To get the 2011 Dodge Journey, I traded in my 1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager which I had kept in great condition. In many ways, it was a very enjoyable, useful and comfortable car. I expected the Dodge Journey to be at least as satisfying. This has not been my experience... and Chrysler does not seem to care much about efficient design, comfort, safety... or satisfying customers anymore. I am sorry I bought the Journey. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Since I purchased this vehicle in September of 2011 I’ve had problems from the radio not working, power outlets not working, bad cylinder heads, bad gas tank and fuel pump. According to the technician at the dealer the Journey has a problem with the cylinder going bed within the first year. The fuel pump had to be replaced twice. The first time they replace it I broke down in the middle of the freeway 3 days later with my family in the vehicle. The breaks and steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shutoff. I was a sitting duck waiting to be hit be oncoming vehicle s. I had the vehicle towed back to the dealer and 3 days later I’m told that the vehicle is fixed but I need to replace the b
