This is our second caravan and trust me, at ten grand or more below the competition, it’s a great value. Plenty of power for a mini van, plenty of room for the family, plenty of storage below and behind the seats, plenty of room for those of us who aren’t tiny, and plenty of savings overall.

Dodge Grand Caravan vs Toyota Seina

First of all, we reserved a Chrysler Pacifica and Budget failed to provide. They offered a price cut for a Dodge Grand Caravan. We were OK with that.....We were pleasantly surprised. My wife took her family from Memphis, TN to Phoenix, AZ with low stress/drama. The car is so intuitive and easy to drive she actually liked it better than the car she has driven since 2011. I flew to Arizona to meet up with her and take over the wheel. I was amazed at the overall functionality of the vehicle. Visibility is 100%!!! We averaged over 27 mpg over 4,000 miles of traveling (5 passengers with luggage). The only problem was the transmission which for me wasn't an issue at all. It has a severe tendency to NOT downshift to maintain speed when the cruise control is on so it loses up to 10mph before it downshifts. However, the 6 speed auto has a manual shift mode. On our long I-40 stretch from Arizona to Tennessee I used the cruise control (of course). The PCM seamed reluctant to downshift to maintain speed (saving gas). The dash mounted shifter is 2" from your right hand and with a flick of your finger you can downshift a gear to maintain your cruise control speed flawlessly/seaminglessly. It was so smooth all my passengers fell asleep......Fast forward 2 weeks we went on another trip and PURPOSELY reserved another Dodge Caravan. We ended up with a Toyota Siena. I was actually excited about this, but was horribly disappointed. The Toyota has electric steering assist compared to the Dodge's old school hydraulic. The Dodge's steering was WAY better!! The Dodge we rented came with leather and navigation for less money than the Toyota. The Yota only had 1 USB port!! Really??? It had cloth seats, no navigation, and a HORRIBLE 8 speed that was constantly hunting/changing gears. The Yota had no easily manual shift mode to cancel out the vehicle's inadequate PCM to select the right gear. It was total driving misery! Even worse was the throttle. It is no linear. The light turns green and you give normal throttle input to accelerate and you barely move. Everyone is blowing your doors off at this point so you increase throttle input. That's when all the sudden all hell breaks looks and this Yota becomes RACE CAR and anyone drinking a cappuccino or latte s wearing it in their lap There's no in between. You are either getting your doors blown off or you are off to the races. The Dodge Grand Caravan had very linear throttle inputs and you could easily predict the upshifts and downshifts. If you are driving to provide comfort to your passengers by not throwing them around in their seats the Dodge Grand Caravan blows the Toyota Siena out of the water for less money/

Ok its not the latest design, and the entertainment system is a bit 2010, but apart from that, its a likeable and willing travel companion, the engine is very eager and gives surprising performance, I wonder if its the one they use in the Charger, certainly is powerful and gives great acceleration for joining the interstate. the seats, heated, like the steering wheel are comfortable and I had no aches or pains after hours of driving. If you need a vehicle this size, I can recommend Dodge.

I’m a jaguar guy but renting vans is always good! I gave up to grow up. I play guitar for a living so the practical part is great and it’s comfortable, never a shortage of room. Can it last with good care? I hope so. No kids no dogs. 🎸
