New Durango Customer
This is my first Durango. I drove a 2001 a couple of years ago, and I liked it very much, however, a deal could not be made with the dealership, so I went and bought a used 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Replaced the front and rear differentials as the transfer case in one year. Drove the 2004 Durango, love how it performs (despite the not so great mileage), and needless to say, I'm extremely happy!
Great New SUV
I love this vehicle.

Hemisphere!
Wife and I love our Durango Limited in Dodge Red. Smooth ride and great power with the Hemi. With our daughter safety was important, so opted for the rear side curtain airbags. Gas mileage is better than our 96 Trooper...and with waaay more pick up. After driving it on occasional trips to the in-laws and on weekends, I'm disappointed to go back to my '03 Corolla for my commute to work! This is our first Dodge...and it won't be our last, as I am seriously looking at the '06 Charger. Have had to take it in to dealer twice for check engine light. (1) Ignition relay replaced, (2) Undiagnosed. Also, Rear Diff. was leaking..had to replace gasket.
Disappointing
What sold me was the smooth luxury car like ride unlike many other SUVs. Lots of electrical problems with this one from the very begining. Latest episode left my wife stranded due to failure to start and had to hitch a ride to the airport. Had just gotten it out of the shop for other issues. It is back there again!Poor fuel economy.
Hate the blind spots
I bought an '04 new w/ Hemi and for the most part love it. Engine is great, options are great, but be warned... the blind spots are large. What is really bad are the ones created by the front pillars. Use caution when turning corners, you will not be able to see. Nothing worse than having to lean forward when you make a left hand turn just so you can see. Like it but won't buy another.
i have a hemi too and luv it
this is my 2nd durango had an '99 5.9 engine. big difference between the two, i luv my '04 hemi.
Drive It You'll Love It
The ride and comfort are far greater than that of the previous Durango. Let the exterior grow on you. It is one of the few SUV's to have a different look. We have the Hemi but the 4.7 gets better mileage in town.
Exelent Vehicle!
Even though I have had this car for a while, new "bonus" item keep appearing! All I can say is that this vehicle has been thought through by the builders to a point beyond expectation! I have been waiting for a vehicle like this for several years. I am ecstatic - I have finally found it! Buy it, you will love it!
Just got it & so far love it!
I had test drove a few different suv's. Had my heart set on the Chevy Trailblazer SLT. Wasn't even going to drive the durango but thought Oh Well I'll try it. Loved It! More roomy and rides geat! Experienced the first snow already with it and it handled great!
Very Happy with Redesign
I had a 2000 Durango prior to this ans I am very pleased with the changes. The ride is very quiet and comfortable. A lot of the features make it very convenient. Split seating in the third row is a great option, car is much roomier than the previous model. I looked at a lot of different SUV's for about a year, the feature to price ratio is by far the best in the Durango. Got the Big engine as well. Yeah, its got a HEMI. Be careful, you'll be going 85 before you know it and it feels like 50, engine feels like it is idling at that speed. Very Quiet. I think Dodge has a winner, by far the biggest bang for your buck in the new SUV market.
Really Unfortunate
My wife and I had to buy a big SUV. We needed the size and safety for our 2 girls. We chose the 2004 Durango for the power, comfort, style and the $3,500.00 rebate. Our Durango was the most comfortable vehicle I have ever driven. Well, as luck would have it, one day a passenger noticed air coming through the door jam of the left rear door. A few days later, my wife felt the Durango try to drive away while she was stopped at a red light. Our new SUV was in the shop 6 times within 3 months for the same air conditioning problems . To sum it up: I successfully hired a lawyer to get all my money back under the California Lemon Law.
One Buff SUV
I purchased this 2004 Dodge Durango SLT with the 4.7 and only 20000 miles on it. I wanted a nice SUV but didn't want to give one of my legs to get one. I looked at Dodge dealers for a newer Durango but the 2004 models were $22,000 and up?? I bought mine for a unreal price of $16,995. NO JOKE! Nothing wrong with it a one owner. It was at a Toyota dealer so I got it cheap. I love the BUFF style and the HUGE appearance. I was worried about the gas mileage but towing a car dolly and a 2004 Pontiac Vibe I got 16MPG. Impressed. I have owned 120 cars (seriously) in 32 years of my life and this is one of my favorites. A great deal and reliable enough to pass on to my 10 year old son.
second durango
I owned a 2001 Durango SLT Plus and it worked and towed very well, especially with the 411 gears. I traded it in at 60,000 miles and purchased a 2004 Durango Limited. This vehicle is far superior to the 2001 model as far as comfort, towing, gas mileage (even with the hemi), and options now available. Mercedes certainly has has a positive impact upon these vehicles. If you are looking for an SUV, pick the Durango, as I have had other makes, and they did not compare to this vehicle. In addition, the Dealer gave me an exceptional price, and I was able to get more for the buck with rebates. Good Luck and enjoy the four wheeling experience in this vehicle.
2004 Dodge Durango
My family and i love this vehicle. we owned an Older GMC Suburban, a 1993 Plymouth Voyager and a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. We sold them and the Durango replaces them all.
'04 Durango Limited 4.7L
Love the Durango. The 4.7L engine has enough power to get the truck around w/o guzzling . I get about 18 to 19 MPG when I take it easy on the gas. I have had no mechanical issues with the car and would definitely buy another one.
American power and steel
We love the power and steel that protects us and moves our wounderful Durango limited. The kids love the great sounding DVD and we love them loving it. The comfort and style are great. The sure footed feeling in all conditions make it fun to drive year round. The gas MPG are not bad at all for what you get in return. We see 21- 22 hwy at 65-70 MPH and 19.5-21 MPG at 73-78 MPH. add in town and we average about 16.5 MPG. The only real change would be adding the lift gate rear window to unlatch for loading small item. We like it better than the Tahoe/yukon. 7/8 the size and much more fun to drive.
best truck
i wouldent want to buy any other truck but a darango it has served me well win going to buy a truck i will go look for a darango fisrt
Would buy it again
Comfort and easy towing at an incredible price for its value. Highly undervalued by rating companies who are still confused by its previous model.
momuleapullin
rides well and has lots of pickup. Wish the gate window opened but that is probably in the works for 2005? Pulls 26' camper trailer very well and doesn't wonder all over the road, easy to steer and control. Selected the 4X2 SLT and we are not disappointed ! with the HEMI it does a great job.
Best SUV
This SUV has got some serious power it outranks any SUV on the road not to mention how cool it looks and how comfortable it is. If you want an SUV the Durango is the only way to go.
hemified
Had 99 model ...sure can see mercedes influence!!!
Stay Away
Dont buy this truck. This is the worst SUV! I am a big Dodge nut but this is my last Dodge! I had a 2001 quad cab Dakota better then this thing and a 95 Dodge Avenger. All brand new. Very cheap interior and poor design. I had check engine light on and throttle light. Radio will not respond to from time to time. Rotors are warped! This truck is well maintained, better than new! Only have 15000 miles on it. If you want an SUV, look somewhere else.
not a van type of guy
as single dad raising seven kids by myself ive found a new luv with my durango it fits us all, it isnt as big and bulky as most suv's and isnt as expensive either
Weather king
There is almost nothing not to like about this vehicle-performance is outstanding with the 5.7 hemi. In bad weather, this car is a dream: heat is excellent, including the seats, handling is stable, snow drifts are no problem. The controls are simple, including the steering wheel radio buttons. Visibility is excellent. A month after purchase I had a head-on collision with a huge deer at seventy mph, the front end got crushed, but I simply braked and got out.
Special Order durango
My wife and I ordered our durango, because we wanted options that did not seem to be very popular. Such as: Side air bags, the 28g package, tow group, and HEMI. The special order took 4 weeks to the day to arrive at the dealership. I enjoyed the test drives, but really love it now. The cornering, turning radius and power exceed anything else I test drove. The Hemi, is awesome, it maybe too much power for some, however if you enjoy tapping the pedel and being up to speed on the highway, then i highly reccomend the HEMI, if you have no need to do alot of towing or enjoy the power the regular 4.7 v8 gives, i suggest get it instead (it will save some on gas).
2004 Dodge
Excellent choice, fun drive with plenty of room to spare. Great entertainment center for the kids on a long travel. Smooth handling and better traction with larger tire size. After market add on turns this vehicle into an eye catcher. Competitive with other luxury SUV's at a great price. Thanks Dodge.
Awesome Durango
I love this vehicle. Outside of the purchase price...1st one bought at this dealership I love it. Very fun to drive and the MPGs are not that bad for a vehicle of this size. We are getting over 20 on the highway. Resale value sucks though just looked it up and lost 6 grand allready. I wish the 3rd row seat layed flat though.
'04 Durango
Purchase '04 Durango used. Performance, smoothness, power are awesome. I sometimes forget I'm driving a truck. Road noise minimal. As quiet, if not quieter than the Infiniti FX35. Gas is poor. Room is perfect for this size vehicle. Horrendous squealing problem with original brakes. Replaced with thermal brakes and sqealing is just about all gone. More options are required for this $30k plus vehicle to compete at same level as competition. Better interior is needed for base and middle trim packages.
So Far So Good
While I have only had it for a week, I have to say I love this car. We purchased the Limited model via the Chrysler EC program and saved $4000 plus the rebate, we got the $40k model for $32k. My biggest complaint today, the fact the door lock mechanism is located right where my elboy likes to rest while driving. Oh well...
Ongoing problems
Mechanicly sound , fun to drive, but many ongoing problems. Front seat trim keeps cracking , headlights come on on sunny days , ac cuts out. Dealer keeps saying no problem found. Also the Goodyear tires are poor in rain or at highway speeds .
04 dodge durango limited 5.7L hemi
This suv is an outstanding vehicle thruout from new five link rear suspension to all the features found in the limited (leather, auto dimming mirrors, adjusable peddles, dual power seats and awd plus 4 high and low and 4whl anti lock brakes, hemi just screams power!
Great truck with a lot of power
Though we had a few issues with the drive train (Dodge covered everything) after about a year, overall we love it. It is large enough for the 5 of us and all of our camping gear. It has been fun to drive and very responsive for a large truck.
Awesome SUV
When my family bought the new Dodge Durango we knew we made the right choice. The Hemi engine and the aggressive styling are definite pluses. The only area of concern for our family in downsizing was the passenger room. In our Durango we have the two-seater third row and it is the most spacious and comfortable third row that we have seen in comparing vehicles, moreso even than that of the Ford Expedition (2004), Chevrolet Tahoe, Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoya, or even the Chevrolet Suburban. The only drawback that we came across was that when we pile six of us into the car for a road trip there is no room for our bags. So on every long trip we had to put a cargo carrier on the top and back.
HEMI-FIED
I love my durango. I think it deserves a longer test to really appreciate the utility that it provides
Great Ride
Nice physical design inside and out. Dodge is leading the pack once again. It is the only company that made significant changes to the 04 SUV's. It's larger than the older Durnago model, but smaller than the larger Tahoe's and Denali's. Not to mention about 5-10k less... with leather and a 6 CD/MP3 changer.
2004 Hemi Durango
We have driven from Indiana to the Florida Keys 3 times and to Texas twice. The highway ride is smooth and comfortable. Gas mileage can be as expected, but the power on the highway is really nice! The only problem we ever had was an oxygen sensor, but that was replaced under warranty. We now have just over 53,000 miles on the Durango. Runs so quiet at idle I have to check rpm to know it is actually running. We change oil every 3000 miles and rotate tires every 6000 miles along with any other services shown in the service handbook.
MONTHLY PROBLEM-4 IN 4 MONTHS
PURCH JAN'04 HAS NOT STARTED 3X,TOWED TO DEALER. OVERHEAD AND RADIO LIGHTS FLASH OFF AND ON, UNABLE TO TURN RADIO OFF OR CHANGE STATIONS WHILE CAR IS RUNNING. 1ST DEFECTIVE BATTERY, 2ND- OPEN GROUND,3RD-NOTHING READING OUT ON COMPUTER. AT PRESENT TOWED TO DEALER- WOULD NOT START AGAIN WAITING FOR ANOTHER EXCUSE OR THEY WILL PLAY STUPID "CAN NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM."
Best Value in large SUV
We test drove every vehicle in this size group and larger. We kept coming back to the Durango because we loved the feel of the ride, power of the Hemi, and comfort of the interior. In our opinion, this vehicle was far superior to Ford and Chevy. Affordability was not an issue, even though the pricing on the Durango was incredible! We now have 60,000 miles on the vehicle with virtually no problems other than "brake" issues. They have been replaced twice already.
Great Vehicle
My Hemi tows 5000 lbs smoothly. She always starts, never gets stuck. love this car, even though I didn't expect to. On the highway, she gets 17 or 18. But around town she only gets 12 to 13. The dealer is still in the 50's. That's too bad, because the car has a lot going for it.
GREAT SUV ... But The Gas!!!
Basically, a great SUV and in my opinion the best. The biggest problem is the gas. I have the 5.7 Hemi and it's nothing like the old 96 Dodge Grand Caravan I had when it comes to gas milage. Mine is brand new, so maybe after 3000 miles it might help the gas ... but I'm not getting my hopes up. If you don't mind spending a little extra on the gas (or if you own land in Saudi Arabia) THEN GO FOR THIS SUV!!!
All good
This SUV has been a good ride thus far. We had owned three Jeep Grand Cherokees prior. The Durango is much more comfortable, and smoother. Gas mileage is not as good though. Only gripe is a plastic seat belt cover on driver's side. It has broken off three times. I also know it's still a problem on '05 and '06 models
I Love my 2004 Durango 4x4
I cannot say enough good about my durango! It handles like a car, has a decent quiet ride. The gas mileage doesn't bother me, I was driving an old 4x4 jeep, and itwas the same! The vehicle is heavy enough that I feel safe, there is plenty of room and I sit high enough that I can see what's going on all around me. And, the entire staff where I bought it are great!
Even great as a resale!
I bought this SUV about 9 months ago. I love it! It still looks and drives like it is brand new! Friends don't believe it is 3 years old. I drove an Explorer for 10 years and have been very happy with the switch.
It's been good to me so far
Though not perfect in any single category, this is a very good SUV. I have not had one single mechanical issue with this vehicle. I do all service work myself according to the book, which I am hoping will save money in the long haul. Performance with the 4.7L V8 is good, I occasionally tow a utility trailer with various loads and it still performs admirably. Long grades at 70 MPH fully loaded are no problem. Braking is excellent for a large SUV; both in feel and in braking distance. The bumpers fore and aft are thin plastic, not adequate. They are painted on the SLT and higher trim levels, which leads to very visible road rash from debris.
love it
I had always wanted a suv, had just bought a ford taurus in June. Was out for a drive one afternoon, next thing was out looking at suv's had wanted a different suv, never knew about the durango, took one test drive in it, and knew it was for me, didn't care how upside down I was on the taurus, the durango was mine, was behind the wheel the next day, and TOTALLY enjoy driving it each day.
You will NOT be disappointed!
I just recently purchased my Durango. The ride quality and the build quality of this vehicle are just superb! For as large as this vehicle is, it handles like a small SUV! I chose the 5.7L Hemi and would definitely recommend spending the extra $895 for it, no matter what trim level you choose. I'm actually getting better gas mileage in this Durango Hemi than I was with my 4.7L V8 in my old Dodge Dakota Quad Cab.
NICE BUT...get something else
Dodge has done something with this 4wd that I just cannot understand-All this money poured into the new design and an underbody skid plate that is lower than anything under the vehicle and FLAT! READ- It acts as a shovel- not turned up in the forward portion and only about 6 inches off the ground-UNBELIEVABLE! Don't think about taking this thing off road- you will high-center in a second on even the slightest rutted roads!
Get extended warranty
I bought my Hemi brand new. loved the drive, my son loved the DVD option, yet 500 miles after my warranty ran out major problems, all the dash lights, turn signals & gauges turn off when I turn blinkers on. Good thing its a lease & I will turn back over in few months because they say nothing is wrong with it!
Solid and dependable!
I traded in my Jeep Wrangler for this Black beauty and was very happy I did! The Durango is solid, dependable, comfortable, and quiet. For such a spacious vehicle, everything is accessible and convenient. The ride is very smooth and the sound system is excellent making for an enjoyable experience.
Pleasantly Surprised
Bought The Durango With 19,000 Miles On It, Paid 17,500. We have taken it on a few long trips and have managed to get better than 25 mpg, which isn't that bad.Plenty of room for our family of 5, 3rd row seat is roomy and much easier to use than the ones on Expeditons or Tahoes. Love the interior, very quiet and the gauges are great. We were going to get a Tahoe, but drove this and felt we were getting better bang for our buck. If the price of gas is a worry, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are looking for something w/ tons of room and a great 4 wheel drive system, I don't think you could go wrong with one of these.
