Special Order durango
My wife and I ordered our durango, because we wanted options that did not seem to be very popular. Such as: Side air bags, the 28g package, tow group, and HEMI. The special order took 4 weeks to the day to arrive at the dealership. I enjoyed the test drives, but really love it now. The cornering, turning radius and power exceed anything else I test drove. The Hemi, is awesome, it maybe too much power for some, however if you enjoy tapping the pedel and being up to speed on the highway, then i highly reccomend the HEMI, if you have no need to do alot of towing or enjoy the power the regular 4.7 v8 gives, i suggest get it instead (it will save some on gas).
Awesome Durango
I love this vehicle. Outside of the purchase price...1st one bought at this dealership I love it. Very fun to drive and the MPGs are not that bad for a vehicle of this size. We are getting over 20 on the highway. Resale value sucks though just looked it up and lost 6 grand allready. I wish the 3rd row seat layed flat though.
the best
The car is great. It look way better then the old body style. Thes is a great car!!
great suv,great price
The new Durango is great! I got the Hemi (5.7L not 4.7) and it will really move! The ride is quiet and handling is great. With the amount of snow we got this last winter, the this thing was unstopable. If you are looking for a great looking suv that will take you anywhere, the Durango is the best choice.
Hemi Engine Noise
Have had mine for over 3 weeks now and am very happy with it - got the 5.7L Hemi. Does anyone else notice a squeaking sound coming from the transmission housing under the vehicle when idling? The salesmam suggested that this was a typical engine noise and would go away after break-in. Well, after 1,000 miles, it's still there. There is discussion on this at www.dodgetalk.com. Other than this noise, I love the exterior design - looks tough. Interior is laid out well and very user friendly. Wish that there was a flat cargo area when all seats are down.
6': watch your head/ needs 3rd seat del.
Finally! A truck with left/right (especially right!) room for my big feet! Great front seats, great seating/steering wheel/peddal relationship, better than average console.
2nd Durango
Traded our 1998 for the 2004. Ride is much improved and so is the mileage. Did not get the HEMI and am still satisfied with engine performance. Enjoy the 6 disc CD player and love those leather seats. AWD is a nice feature too. Although I have the 4WD option I have no intention of taking this thing off road. Too nice and too pretty. I'll save the off roading for for my Jeep or ATV's. Will use 4wd to get out of the steep driveway in the winter. Power doesn't pop you head back in passing gear but it still has plenty. Got the tow package and it tows my ATV's just fine. So far so good. The styling is growing on me and the graphite grey looks sharp.
Recommend Buying
I traded in my 2000 Durango, which I was very pleased with, after test driving the 2004. Dodge has dramatically improved the ride quality, handling and braking. Although it may appear insignificant to some, entry into the third row seat is much easier. On my first camping trip, fully loaded with gear and 4 passengers, I averaged over 20 miles per gallon at a steady 74mph. Not bad for a vehicle of this size. City mileage is consistent with EPA estimates. Since it's new, it's hard to gauge reliablity. I rated it high as I did not stick a cent into the 2000 vehicle that was worked hard.
hemi's are great
we bought a slt hemi 5.7 liter durango and we love it!my hats off to dodge.it's roomy, comfortable, and the kids love the dvd.
I love my Durango!
I have only had my Duarango for less than a week, but it is living up to my expectations. It has a wonderful smooth ride and I am so glad I chose it. I was going to get a smaller SUV (Land Rover Freelander) But I have horses and it carries all my equipment with ease!
Love that HEMI
Lots of room and good power. DVD system is hard to see if you a small child. Wish it got better gas milage. Wish the drivers seat would go lower. Excellent turn radius and handling. Glad I bought it.
Reliability
I bought my 2004 Durango in 2005. I now have 81,000 miles and I haven't had any major problems. I've only replaced the battery and brakes. I drive 50 miles each day and I love the smooth ride and reliability. The Infinity sound system is impressive! I can seat 7 people comfortably. The only negative thing is the poor gas mileage.
Very Impressed!
We spent a lot of time looking at Ford (explorer and expidition) and Chevy (trailblazer). The new 04 durango really impressed us with comfort, power (even with the 4.7 V8)! great interior room, dealers were great to work with, and the pricing came in significantly under even the smaller explorer and Trailblazer. Better warrentee, just pleased overall with the vehicle.
One Great Patrol Vehicle
After 7 Yrs of driving Ford Crown Vics it was a pleasure to get behind the wheel of my 2004 Durango 4WD. Handling is GREAT and there is loads of room for all my equipment. This truly is one GREAT patrol Vehicle.
Best Durango ever
Hemi is great; interior layed out great much roomier than previous model. Video Ent. Sys well worth it and performs great. New chasis improves ride, handling and comfort over previous model 100%.
I love my Drango
this is my 4th drango. I just love it. I love the room the drive and the style!
I love it!
I love everything about my new Durango. I would recommend it to anyone.
Well Designed
Well designed, comfortable with the ability to haul a lot of stuff. Handles well, plenty of power for 99% of your driving needs. Just wish it could get better gas mileage.
Dependable SUV
I have had my Durango for just about 4 years now and I am getting ready to trade it for a crossover. My Durango has been very dependable and gave us lots of room for the kids plus. My only complaint is the limited visability on the left side of the front windshield die to a bulky frame. As with all large SUV's, the Durango get terrible gas milage. I have always consistently averaged 13 mpg. But overall I have loved the truck. If you need the space of a large SUV it's a great choice.
HEMI Power !!!!
I have had it for less then 60days and have 9,300 miles on it.I love the ride and so does my wife and three kids.My first business trip was 2800 miles and I averaged 18.3MPG.Using high test gas I can get 20+MPG on the HWY. I get 14-16 around town. The 6 Disc changer is great for long drives.I read a lot about the Durango before my purchase and they all stated that the HEMI was worth the extra money and I must agree! The split 3rd row seat is also a must, it is much larger then the bench.
Poor Rookies.
We've owned a 2000, & 2002. We have a 2003 & 2004. The difference between the 2003 & 2004 is night & day. The 2004 not only is beautifully designed, it rides great. We take my softball to indoor off season practice every Saturday. The experienced players ride in the 2004 and someone always has a DVD to watch. Poor rookies, they have to ride in the 2003.
Love it, but...
This is my third Durango. Love it for comfort, but it does not have enough storage for stuff you need to keep in the vehicle. Glove box is tiny. Storage hole is tiny. Only one behind seat pocket and it does not expand. In the door pockets are much smaller than older models, can barely get your hand in it much less stuff. Gas mileage is poor.
GREAT!!!!
The best,Ihave driven them all;and VERY POWERFUL!!!
My 3rd Durango
Having owned a '00 SLT and a '02 SLT Plus I was anxious to try out the newly designed '04 Durango. I purchased a Deep Molten Red Limited with the 4.7 and although I just passed the 1000 mile mark, I am very happy with the ride, handling and overall performance. The interior seems like it could use a little more trim to dress it up. I really like the design and function of the dash air vents but there is an over abundance of uninterupted gray plastic.
nice ride
i got the 5.7 hemi. wow it has a lot of get up from my 2000 4.7. around same gas mileage. the ride is easy, fun to drive.i like the new body. it was time for a change, even though i still like the old one.
good but bad on gas.
good truck but bad on gas ..about 14 mpg. i wouldnt get it if you had to commute a ong distance 1 hour or more a day..otherwise you will paying $80 a week or more. but drives handels nice.
Great Durango
This is the second high(er) end SUV I have owned, the first being a 1990 Ford Bronco (Eddie Bauer Edition). This is by far the nicest vehicle I have ever owned, it is incredibly smooth, considering the GVWR and 4WD. It is truly a joy to drive, great feel, very responsive, plenty of horsepower (and even a tight turning radius for it's size). We highly recommend this vehicle for anyone looking at SUV's.
Great Vehicle
Great engine (Hemi), wonderful ride, great handling. Dodge got it right. I recommend this vehicle to anyone who is shopping the mid and large size SUV market
Well designed Durango
I bought the Molten Red Durango Limited with the Hemi. It is extremely well made and welld esigned. Very powerful engine, fun to drive. The fuel economy around town is about 13.5 mpg; on the highway it is 19-20 mpg. I have only one complaint. the front seats are too narrow and I get a cramp in my legs on long trips. (I'm 6'2" and only a little overweight) The seats need to be about two inches wider; there is plenty of room to do this. Other than that, the fit and finish is excellent; quality is much better than I expected. (this is my first Dodge)
The SUV to have
This is the one to have if you're looking for a V8 power engine. I suggest to get the HEMI, gas mileage is not so bad, just little difference on 4.7 V8. Overall, fun to drive and husky looking, an SUV to have.
I Love this truck
This is the smoothest riding truck you will ever drive. Feels like you are floating. Excellent cargo space, drivers seat is high up so you can see everything. Love the new design (Which I did not like at first, you grow to love it quick). Strong V8 engine. Fuel effeciency seems a little low. Its a beast of a truck.
Simply Marvelous!
There is absolutely no SUV available today that comes close to the 04 Durango. The ride is soooo sweet! This is an awesome vehicle! I love it!
Its Ok
I have eth hemi, and it has plenty of power. But after 5K miles, the dealer still can't find annoying front end vibration and pull. It pulls my boat likeits not back there, very good ride aside from front end vibration
Dodge Surprise
Before buying, I compared the Expedition to the Durango. The Durango beat the Expedition in almost all categories, especially power. This being my first Dodge,I was pleasantly surprised to find features usually only found on luxury vehicles such as memory driver settings, climate control, and leather. And, most important, the price was reasonable.
Tried and True
If like me, you own/owned the well- known Durango body style, the new ones take some getting used to. Once you get over the new body style, you'll be happy with the modifications...notwithstanding the MPG. I found the new model is better overall: good interior design, easy handling, great ride (you float) and fantastic sound system! I'm only 5'3" and love being able to look down at people on the road! Like the longer wheel-base. Watch your speed, if it feels like 40, you're probably doing 60. Although I was initially reluctant, I'm happy I stayed with the Durango. Thanks Anthony Ester at Covington Pike Dodge, you're an asset! Before you rule the Durango out, take the test drive
drives like a dream
I have only had it a month but I love it. It drives like a dream for an SUV. It has a good turning radius and lots of power. It is easy to put up and down the seats for hauling. I had my Dodge van for 9 years I expect to drive a Durango for a long time.
Astounding Value
Lots of utility and comfort for low price, $9,000 LESS THAN my 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer, and I received "friends and family" pricing on both. How does DCX do it? HEMI gas mileage on freeway was 19+ mpg @ 75 mph, after break in. Unique styling doesn't do much for us, but more people ask about liking the Durango than they ever did about the Expedition. Ride quality is much more compliant and smoother than old Durango, very "German" in character. I've owned the BMW X5 4.4 sport and a Mercedes ML320 and find the Durango Limited to be up to par with these vehicles; the Durango cost $24,000 less than my 2000 X5. Not as roomy as the Expedition.
Hemi More
Best looking vehicle in class. Ride is as good as or better than Toyota Sequoia. Wheelbase increase did wonders for interior room. Hemi gives great power and towing capacity. Ltd offers many conviences. Mileage is very good on highway driving (18-19)and very bad in city driving (12). Great front seat legroom and stereo system. 4 Wheel drive is wonderfull.
Best Large SUV on the market today
After thorough research, I ended up purchasing a fully loaded Durango 4X4 Limited listing at over $41,000 and paying under $32,400 excluding taxes. The vehicle looks great, rides better than my Lexus car, accelerates well and the 335 hp Hemi engine cannot be beat. Interior styling and ride are better than any GM vehicle today including the Tahoe and Surburban. The Ford Expedition is dated and too big. GMC's Denali interior is cheap looking and the Toyota 4Runner was an additional $5,000 for only a 5 passenger vehicle. Mercedes Benz has done wonders to the ride comfort and quality of the Dodge line of trucks. My hat is off to them, a former Ford man from Dallas.....
BAD JOB DODGE
I brought this car as a new years present to my self. i have had nothin but truoble. my starter went a month after i brought it, there is this anning rattle coming from the ehgne still need that fixed. i like the hemie good idea.
Yes it has a HEMI
I am writing this review after clocking my first 1000 miles in my 2004 Durango. This vehicle replaced my 2001 Durango. What an improvement! The new body style is more attractive and stylish. The fit and finish of the exterior and interior is great. The best improvements were in the cabin of the vehicle. Better gauge cluster, layout of dash, comfort of seating, new steering wheel and even the placement of the front and rear air vents and dash-mounted defroster registers. Thrid row seats are easier to fold than older model thanks to pull straps on the seat backs. Getting the seat backs upright is easier too because of this and no more having to climb inside and lift up the bottom cushion.
So Far So Good
While I have only had it for a week, I have to say I love this car. We purchased the Limited model via the Chrysler EC program and saved $4000 plus the rebate, we got the $40k model for $32k. My biggest complaint today, the fact the door lock mechanism is located right where my elboy likes to rest while driving. Oh well...
Disappointing
What sold me was the smooth luxury car like ride unlike many other SUVs. Lots of electrical problems with this one from the very begining. Latest episode left my wife stranded due to failure to start and had to hitch a ride to the airport. Had just gotten it out of the shop for other issues. It is back there again!Poor fuel economy.
American power and steel
We love the power and steel that protects us and moves our wounderful Durango limited. The kids love the great sounding DVD and we love them loving it. The comfort and style are great. The sure footed feeling in all conditions make it fun to drive year round. The gas MPG are not bad at all for what you get in return. We see 21- 22 hwy at 65-70 MPH and 19.5-21 MPG at 73-78 MPH. add in town and we average about 16.5 MPG. The only real change would be adding the lift gate rear window to unlatch for loading small item. We like it better than the Tahoe/yukon. 7/8 the size and much more fun to drive.
best truck
i wouldent want to buy any other truck but a darango it has served me well win going to buy a truck i will go look for a darango fisrt
04 dodge durango limited 5.7L hemi
This suv is an outstanding vehicle thruout from new five link rear suspension to all the features found in the limited (leather, auto dimming mirrors, adjusable peddles, dual power seats and awd plus 4 high and low and 4whl anti lock brakes, hemi just screams power!
momuleapullin
rides well and has lots of pickup. Wish the gate window opened but that is probably in the works for 2005? Pulls 26' camper trailer very well and doesn't wonder all over the road, easy to steer and control. Selected the 4X2 SLT and we are not disappointed ! with the HEMI it does a great job.
HEMI-FIED
I love my durango. I think it deserves a longer test to really appreciate the utility that it provides
Great Ride
Nice physical design inside and out. Dodge is leading the pack once again. It is the only company that made significant changes to the 04 SUV's. It's larger than the older Durnago model, but smaller than the larger Tahoe's and Denali's. Not to mention about 5-10k less... with leather and a 6 CD/MP3 changer.
