Perfect for us
Durango Limited Hemi is perfect blend of luxury and toughness. My wife and I drove everything in this class and the mid-size class. This was perfect size for us...not too big and not too small. We were replacing a 5-series BMW, so I was planning on a more painful transition. But we have about 6,500 miles on it now, and I have no regrets. In my opinion the Durango is better than the Expedition (nice interior but underpowered) or the Tahoe (nice power but dull interior), and the European and Japanese offerings just didn't cut it.
Nice Ride and Powerful
My wife and I looked at nine different SUV's before we discovered the new Durango. We would never have considered the earlier design of the Durango as it was too small but when we test drove this one, we fell in love with it. It handles very well, the transmission is smooth and the suspension gives a comfortable ride. We chose the SLT and upgraded to leather with the hot sound system and of course the HEMI. If you are going to buy this vehicle don't waste your time on the 4.7l or the 6 cylinder...you'll be happy that you went with the HEMI.

Love our Durango
We had a 2002 R/T and loved driving it...only dissapointment was we could not have a sun roof. Welcome to 2004. The options available are so nice. The ride is far more comfortable (if that was possible) and it looks great!
Awesome SUV
This has been the best SUV I've ever driven (and I've driven Land Cruisers, Montero Sport, Montero, Murano, CR-Vs, Rav4s, Ford Explorers.) It's so quiet, pretty solid, pretty good off-road, all though I haven't been able to get more than 12 MPG in the city, I still recommend this vehicle for everyone looking for an spacious car for the family and pretty good on long trips.
I would've never thought
I love the Chevy Tahoe and the GMC. I decided to step outside the box and ended up falling in love with this vehicle. I has all the luxuries for a better price.
Hemi
This Durango has a hemi not the 4.7 other choice that was given to me. Great SUV I had a 2001 R/T and was very happy with it, but this one is much better
Great New SUV
I love this vehicle.
Durango Limited Hemi
I have only owned this vehicle for a couple of weeks, but it is far superior to my previous SUV, a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Tons of power, Quiet, and comfortable. Everyone that has been inside it has made numerous comments about how awesome it is. A little better gas mileage would be good though. 12mpg right now. As long as it is dependable I think we will be very happy with it.
Drive It You'll Love It
The ride and comfort are far greater than that of the previous Durango. Let the exterior grow on you. It is one of the few SUV's to have a different look. We have the Hemi but the 4.7 gets better mileage in town.
This things got a hemi!
I love the 04 durango no problems at all
Got a HEMI?
I bought this used, if you call owned for 6 months used. I traded in my 2000 Chevy Blazer for this rocket! I get 14 mpg around town, 18 mpg highway. (Same as my 4.3 Blazer) I towed a Ford Mustang over 600 miles on a heavy steel trailer and still managed 16 mpg. All the while passing cars and averaging 80 mph in the mountains of TN. Took the Durango with wife and 2 children to FL from OH and was plenty comfortable and rode better than some higher priced SUV's and cars.
Very Happy with Redesign
I had a 2000 Durango prior to this ans I am very pleased with the changes. The ride is very quiet and comfortable. A lot of the features make it very convenient. Split seating in the third row is a great option, car is much roomier than the previous model. I looked at a lot of different SUV's for about a year, the feature to price ratio is by far the best in the Durango. Got the Big engine as well. Yeah, its got a HEMI. Be careful, you'll be going 85 before you know it and it feels like 50, engine feels like it is idling at that speed. Very Quiet. I think Dodge has a winner, by far the biggest bang for your buck in the new SUV market.
One Buff SUV
I purchased this 2004 Dodge Durango SLT with the 4.7 and only 20000 miles on it. I wanted a nice SUV but didn't want to give one of my legs to get one. I looked at Dodge dealers for a newer Durango but the 2004 models were $22,000 and up?? I bought mine for a unreal price of $16,995. NO JOKE! Nothing wrong with it a one owner. It was at a Toyota dealer so I got it cheap. I love the BUFF style and the HUGE appearance. I was worried about the gas mileage but towing a car dolly and a 2004 Pontiac Vibe I got 16MPG. Impressed. I have owned 120 cars (seriously) in 32 years of my life and this is one of my favorites. A great deal and reliable enough to pass on to my 10 year old son.
Move from Jeep to Durango
I had a Jeep 2001 Grand Cherokee, and i did love it expect it was to small in lodging. I was always lowering the seats to get more storage inside. I deciueded to trade it in for something bigger. I did check all the other suv on the market and thats the one i decieded to get. I have now 40 miles on it and i realy love the way it handles the road and espacialy in cornering. Now i have a seven seatter compare to 5 i had before. Now all my grandkids can fit in and no one is left behind.
Love that Hemi
Hemi engine awsome, excellent handling, ride quality excellent.Brakes ok could be better a/c very good, very good interior and cargo room.In my opinion much better than ole style
2004 Dodge Durango
My family and i love this vehicle. we owned an Older GMC Suburban, a 1993 Plymouth Voyager and a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. We sold them and the Durango replaces them all.
Love that Durango!
Had it a month. I'm in love. And this from a guy who traded in a Mustang GT convertible. Eased the transition with the 5.7l Hemi and the sunroof.
Very pleased with 2004 Durango
Excellant choice in a family SUV if you need space, comfort, towing capacity, and a just plain fun to drive SUV for the price.
2004 Dodge Durango/5.7L Hemi
I own a 1998 Durango and always enjoyed driving it. But, the 2004 5.7L Durango with Hemi and L package is driving heaven. This vehicle is responsive, comfortable, drives like a fine automobile, is loaded with features and just looks great.
hemified
Had 99 model ...sure can see mercedes influence!!!
DODGE DAKOTA- 2004
I HAVE HAD MY DODGE DAKOTA FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS . LIKE THE BODY DESIGN AND THE COMFORTABLE RIDE. THE 85 DEGREE OPENING OF THE BACK DOORS IS GREAT. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS SIMPLE AND EASY TO OPERATE.
2004 Hemi Durango
Having traded a 2001 Durango for this I see only improvements. The vehicle handles as if it is much smaller than it is and rides considerable better that it earlier verisons. With the Hemi it tows effortlessly, better than any vehicle I have driven. When not towing, from quick starts to high speed passing this vehicle pulls hard and accelerates more better than any other SUV I have been in. As far as cargo space is concerned, it is enormous. You can't miss with this vehicle as long as you have a gas credit card (preferable with rewards for heavy use).
Hemi is the way to go!
Put 220 miles on it the first day! This vehicle is a blast to drive, and very smooth and quiet on the inside. The one I purchased had the power sunroof, the level II Infinity Sound System (6disk in Dash, 384Watts with subwoofer), and the Hemi as it's major highlights. No aspect of this truck dissappoints. Gas mileage is great for this size vehicle and the Hemi option. Going from the dealer back to work, I was getting an average of 20 MPG (@ 80 mph). With in town driving, it shows 17 MPG. Pretty good for a full size SUV with a 3.92 gear ratio and tow rating of 8900 lbs!
not a van type of guy
as single dad raising seven kids by myself ive found a new luv with my durango it fits us all, it isnt as big and bulky as most suv's and isnt as expensive either
To good to be true
A lesson learned, never buy a redesign vehicle within its first year of production. It has not even been 30 days of ownership and the vehicle has been in the shop three times. First, the radio went out, then it had electrical failure twice. Lets not talk about the gas, I purchased one with the Hemi @ 14MPG(sticker indicates)or more like 10MPG. Don't drive around town with a/c, you will need to refill. I will not have this one for long, I am going back to Chevy/GMC.
any where i want to go
Over all this is an excellent SUV. I have the AWD in my Durango and will never own anything else. AWD and my Durango has proved it's stability to me time and time again in all weather conditions. Dry, wet or snow on or off the road. (nothing will go ice) This is a very reliable and very safe SUV. With no fear my grandsons and I have been all over the place in it.
Love that Hemi
My Wife was hit head on by a drunk driver in our '05 Caravan, air bags saved her life, good design by the Chrysler team. We purchased a '04 Durango and absolutely love it, the performance from the Hemi, the interior and exterior and the safe feeling my wife has based on the overall size and how high the Durango sits. We were well aware in advance we would not get the gas mileage We were getting in our last 3 Dodge caravans but we do get a lot of positive comments on the look of the Durango, waiting for spring to trade into an 06/07.
Excellent Choice!
I recently bought my Durango used. I am single and don't actually need this vehicle but I have since found it so useful! It tows my 6000 pound car trailer with ease, even with 3.55 gears in my Hemi. Power is great and is always available, I average about 13/18 but if I want to take it easy I can easily get 21-22 MPG on the highway. I only wish the 2nd row had more legroom but the 3rd row easily has the Tahoe beat for overall comfort and space. Overall this vehicle was an excellent buy! It looks great, drives great and has just about every feature I could want! At 101K miles it still feels like brand new! I highly Recommend this car! Dont buy any other till you atleast test drive this car!
American tough
This is one fun suv to own. Built tough looks tough and rides like a car. Gas milage not that bad averaged 20mpg on first long trip and its not broken in yet. A pleasure to drive, big yet handles like a smaller SUV. Its quiet and smooth on highway and handles well on small roads. If your looking for an SUV you have to drive this before buying anything else. Simply better than anything in its class and with present rebates a real bargin.
Ex-Suburban Owner
Traded our '93 Suburban for this '04 Hemi Durango. We love this truck. Its a fight about who gets to drive. Power gallore and better mileage. 16 mpg vs 11 mpg from the Suburban. Much easier in the parking lots as well. Interior is so functional as well. Needed the extra room of the Suburban for the 5 kids and there is no-way we would have a minivan. Now they are getting older and only a couple travel with us, we don't need as much room as the Suburban. But the available seats are nice just in case.
LOVE IT!!
I have owned Chevy,Ford and Jeep suv's but the Dodge Durango is by far the best! The ride is smooth and comfortable. Handles great! It feels like your gliding going up hills. Powerful engine even without getting the hemi. Takes the bumps in the road extremely well. So far the mileage is better than the Jeep I had which was only a 6 cylinder. I would highly recommend this vehicle if your looking to buy a new suv.
ME AND MY RANGO
I BOUGHT MY 1999 DURANGO JULY 2002,BUT I'VE BEEN WANTING ONE SINCE 1999 THE YEAR MY NEPHEW BOUGHT HIS. WHEN I SAW MY NEPHEW'S , I SAID TO EVERYONE I'VE GOTTA HAVE ONE .I AM 52 YEARS OLD .I HAVE HAD 7 VEHICLES BETWEEN MY HUSBAND AND ME.BUT NEVER HAVE I EVER WANTED A PARTICULAR VEHICLE SO BAD . I LOVE MY DURANGO .I LOVE THE WAY IT DRIVES . I HAVE TWO 4YEAR OLD GRANDSONS THAT LOVES GETTING INTO THE BACKSEAT AND WE JUST RIDE, RIDE ,RIDE.I JUST LOVE THE WAY IT LOOKS.IT HAS A LOOK ALL BY ITSELF. I JUST LOVE MY RANGO
Special Order durango
My wife and I ordered our durango, because we wanted options that did not seem to be very popular. Such as: Side air bags, the 28g package, tow group, and HEMI. The special order took 4 weeks to the day to arrive at the dealership. I enjoyed the test drives, but really love it now. The cornering, turning radius and power exceed anything else I test drove. The Hemi, is awesome, it maybe too much power for some, however if you enjoy tapping the pedel and being up to speed on the highway, then i highly reccomend the HEMI, if you have no need to do alot of towing or enjoy the power the regular 4.7 v8 gives, i suggest get it instead (it will save some on gas).
If you drive the HEMI first...
If you drive the HEMI first... You will be absolutely MISERABLE with one of the smaller engines. If you want to save money, DON'T drive the HEMI! Interior is spacious and comfortable. Heated seats, DVD rear passenger entertainment system, 1 touch memory for pedal control, seat position, mirror positions, radio, and temp. control were adored by my wife. Fun to drive, good looking, TONS of features. We drove escalade, navigator, expedition, and DURANGO. Got ALL of the killer features in the Durango for about 10 to 15 THOUSAND less!! and by the way, did I tell you it has a 5.7 v8 HEMI!
Dependable SUV
I have had my Durango for just about 4 years now and I am getting ready to trade it for a crossover. My Durango has been very dependable and gave us lots of room for the kids plus. My only complaint is the limited visability on the left side of the front windshield die to a bulky frame. As with all large SUV's, the Durango get terrible gas milage. I have always consistently averaged 13 mpg. But overall I have loved the truck. If you need the space of a large SUV it's a great choice.
Awesome Durango
I love this vehicle. Outside of the purchase price...1st one bought at this dealership I love it. Very fun to drive and the MPGs are not that bad for a vehicle of this size. We are getting over 20 on the highway. Resale value sucks though just looked it up and lost 6 grand allready. I wish the 3rd row seat layed flat though.
the best
The car is great. It look way better then the old body style. Thes is a great car!!
great suv,great price
The new Durango is great! I got the Hemi (5.7L not 4.7) and it will really move! The ride is quiet and handling is great. With the amount of snow we got this last winter, the this thing was unstopable. If you are looking for a great looking suv that will take you anywhere, the Durango is the best choice.
Almost Perfect
I've had my Hemi Durango for a month, and love it. Fun to drive, quiet, comfortable, looks great, refined, good stereo system, and it goes. (Be careful, you are probably going 80 when you think you are going 60.) Compared to competing vehicles, I think the Durango is a steal. I feel a bit smug driving it around and I have to admit I enjoy "looking down" on all those little, teeny, tiny BMWs, Mercedes, Lexi, and Acuras.
Great SUV
I love my Durango. It is a 1999, and I am debating whether or not to trade it in. It has 103,000, and all I have put into it was a new radiator. This is a GREAT SUV
Converted Chevy Owner
I've got the Hemi - even though Edmunds does NOT have this as an option...the 2004 Tahoe would have been $8000 more with less power, convenience and OLD sluggish styling...The Durango does need more storage ability (pockets, etc.) and the third seat should come split with the ability to remove...all that said - I really (!!) like this SUV...
STILL SMILING
Nice solid vehicle, pleases the whole family. HEMI engine is out of this world I use to drive a 350 Nissan Z and with the HEMI power i don't miss it.
So Far So Good
While I have only had it for a week, I have to say I love this car. We purchased the Limited model via the Chrysler EC program and saved $4000 plus the rebate, we got the $40k model for $32k. My biggest complaint today, the fact the door lock mechanism is located right where my elboy likes to rest while driving. Oh well...
Disappointing
What sold me was the smooth luxury car like ride unlike many other SUVs. Lots of electrical problems with this one from the very begining. Latest episode left my wife stranded due to failure to start and had to hitch a ride to the airport. Had just gotten it out of the shop for other issues. It is back there again!Poor fuel economy.
American power and steel
We love the power and steel that protects us and moves our wounderful Durango limited. The kids love the great sounding DVD and we love them loving it. The comfort and style are great. The sure footed feeling in all conditions make it fun to drive year round. The gas MPG are not bad at all for what you get in return. We see 21- 22 hwy at 65-70 MPH and 19.5-21 MPG at 73-78 MPH. add in town and we average about 16.5 MPG. The only real change would be adding the lift gate rear window to unlatch for loading small item. We like it better than the Tahoe/yukon. 7/8 the size and much more fun to drive.
best truck
i wouldent want to buy any other truck but a darango it has served me well win going to buy a truck i will go look for a darango fisrt
04 dodge durango limited 5.7L hemi
This suv is an outstanding vehicle thruout from new five link rear suspension to all the features found in the limited (leather, auto dimming mirrors, adjusable peddles, dual power seats and awd plus 4 high and low and 4whl anti lock brakes, hemi just screams power!
momuleapullin
rides well and has lots of pickup. Wish the gate window opened but that is probably in the works for 2005? Pulls 26' camper trailer very well and doesn't wonder all over the road, easy to steer and control. Selected the 4X2 SLT and we are not disappointed ! with the HEMI it does a great job.
HEMI-FIED
I love my durango. I think it deserves a longer test to really appreciate the utility that it provides
Great Ride
Nice physical design inside and out. Dodge is leading the pack once again. It is the only company that made significant changes to the 04 SUV's. It's larger than the older Durnago model, but smaller than the larger Tahoe's and Denali's. Not to mention about 5-10k less... with leather and a 6 CD/MP3 changer.
