Too many problems

Car does not start without flooring the gas pedel. Must keep at least an 8th of a tank of gas in van and park on level ground. Van has stopped or not started various of times when the fuel gets to about an 8th of a tank of gas. Even had car stop on my wife with kids in car (youngest 3 on Nov 29, 2008). When it does stop it will not start back up unless you put fuel in it (even though guage indicates adequate fuel). It appears as if the transmission is going out all of the time as it slips. The rear windshield wiper has stopped working and that is pretty sad as I also have one of those old Plymouth mini vans and it has operational rear windshield.

I bought the Uplander for it's size and assuming that a GM/Chevrolet would have easy maintenance/repair. First wake up came when I had to get the battery replaced. ABS light comes on frequently, even after repairs. The lock, and mirror adjustment don't work on the driver's side. Anti Theft system shut the car off several times. The engine light is on now. I've gotten a total of 7 different codes. Some related to the transmission. Told by the mechanic I need to decide if I want to spend more money on this van. I drove an old Toyota van that was 10 yrs old before it had any issues. We're only at 126K miles with the Uplander. Just very disappointed in this vehicle.

We bought our van and within 3 weeks took it on vacation. Averaged 24mpg highway and had a smooth ride the whole way. A/C cooled down quickly and with rear air conditioning the van was comfortable all the time. If I had to pick out a weak point it would be the middle chairs don't have arm rests. Sounds silly but this can be important on longer trips. Our van has the DVD system that was great for the kids. I am not sure the back cargo area is as big as some other vans. But there is more space for the passengers so it is a nice trade. If you are going to drop 30K get a Honda Oddesy but for 20K-23K this is a great choice.

GM had a good idea but skipped on the build quality. Ours has 60K miles and it has the gas gauge failed leaving my wife stranded, 3 doors become misaligned and wouldn't shut properly, continuous starting issues, the instrument cluster burn out, the DVD player failed, and the seats are ripping. Worse yet, the exterior trim pieces have all faded in the sun and are a different color than the van. It has alot of great options, does average on gas, and rides nice but its all negated by the build quality. This car is one to avoid!

Ever since I purchased the vehicle I have had problems, first was the automatic doors. For any minor hit on the doors like when going to the market you know how people don't care and they hit your car with the shopping carts. When I turn the car on it doesn't turn on it makes a sound like when the starter gets stuck. It doesn't start until I try for a couple of times before it starts again. I have taken it to the shop several times and i am told nothing is wrong that it is normal for that to happen. I purchased a new vehicle so that I did not have to worry but that has not been true. I wish I would have been smarter and read reviews before making my purchase.

I am very upset that I have an uplander. I have never experienced transmission problems on a vehicle. I have a 10 yr old Toyota and never had to do any major work, just regular maintenance. I was told that my transmission needs to be replaced at $3350 on my uplander. This is garbage. I am still making payments on this car. There is no cost assistance and my warranty is up. What a waist.

When it was first bought it was a good van, until a couple years later we started having problems. The tires would get worn out faster, the van performs horrible in snowy and rainy weather, traction control would come on for no reason during warm weather with nothing on the ground. When going up hill you basically have to floor it.

tires wear unevenly because the suspension is poorly engineered. cheap plastic, breaks, starter is retarded, transmission slips, no rear air, manual rear windows (in a minivan?) battery in-accessible, this chevrolet is a glaring example of engineering by people who no longer care. DO NOT BUY ONE! you won't be able to resell this car.

It was love at first sight when we seen this van, the color, the interior, the style. 10,000 km before warranty ran out, breakdown city! The shuttle driver at the dealership shop and I became friends because I was literally there every week dropping off my van (tire rod ends twice in one year, battery problems, ABS wiring, heater core, air conditioner), The problems didn't end there. Our locks get stuck on our automatic slide doors, rear wiper motor went just after warranty ran out, dvd player is problematic and kills our battery every now and then, rear back up sensor no longer works. It was a great van til it hit 50,000 km. Was not worth what we paid for it.

We bought this van cause our family was growing, I was showed a different van than the one I had. No A/C in the back, a delay on the starter, the brakes issue, the noise in the back, the steering wheel noise, the glove box lock broke, the doors make noises too, the abs light always on. What a nightmare and now is worse cause is worth nothing and we still owe on it....is a crappy car.

Have had nothing but issues since purchasing this van in 2008. Sensors are bad, ABS system failure, suspension rattles, tires are odd size and expensive, AC is weak, mileage is terrible in town, check engine light on since day 3. My BIGGEST complaint is the heater/fan will give out once in awhile. I live in MONTANA, it's essential to have HEAT! Roomy for my family of 5 but spendy to travel in and almost impossible to afford to keep in good repair! I'll drive it until it dies and probably still owe a ton of money on it, as I'm pretty sure death is sooner rather than later. EPIC FAIL

I really like this crossover, but things brake down on my uplander when least expected and how many times it needs to be "fixed". My wheel bearings, handle for the hatchback door broke costing me almost $60.00. Oh don't get me started on the brakes, I have no clue how much money I forked over cause the braking system. Shoddy, and no one seems to know how to fix it. The engine runs fine. It is everything else that is pain in the rear. Sliding doors won't lock or close correctly or even work with the fob! The back wiper motor died at the first snow fall, because rear wiper switch located on left side steering, where frozen fingers touch and turn on and not realize it. Windshield is problem to fix.

Why GM stock is down

If this weren't my company lease vehicle, I would have returned it. Why is Toyota about to knock GM out of the #1 car co. spot? The Uplander is a perfect example! They succeeded in making a Suburban looking minivan, and gave it a decent engine, but failed to take care of the customer. No arm rest for 2nd row bucket seats! No cup holders for 2nd row seats and pathetic front seat holders! No back air vents! 2nd and 3rd row seats weigh a ton to remove while Dodge, Honda, and Toyota have stow and go. GM can build an engine and advertise cars, but they can't design to save their lives.

This is an excellent vehicle for a family with children. There is plenty of storage and seating. The DVD player is an added plus for passengers. The van handles well for this type of vehicle and the mileage is reasonable if it is used for highway driving, vacations, etc. The interior is easy to maintain with average or above average materials used. The most outstand feature for me is the wonderful sound system with Bose speakers front, side and back.

I loved this van until I had to buy tires for it. They are very expensive, and most companies had to order them in. It ran very well until I hit the 88,000 miles. All of a sudden everything goes out on it at once. I had to replace the brakes and rotors. I have to replace the engine at a cost of $5,862.00. You can only have the work done at a dealership. Most of the parts are dealer only. My family of mechanics can't do the work, because there are no manuals for it. The dealer manual cost $168.00. My lovely van has become my worst nightmare. My other van has 193,000 miles and I have only replaced the struts.

After years of driving an Express van for work I was afraid the Uplander wouldnt have the space I needed. But the 2 side doors actually make it easier to get my things out and the fuel economy is way better than my old Express. It is far more comfortable and for the price I couldnt be happier. I think it's a great electrician's van. Acceleration is poor, but I'll trade for gas mileage. I save $300 a month in gas over my old Dodge 350 van.

We purchased this practically new (promo car with 2000 miles). For the first year, I was extremely pleased. However, then problems started and have not stopped. We have had numerous repairs made to the suspension and drivetrain of this vehicle, including bushings, struts, tie-rods, etc. The power doors also have been worked on several times; however I cannot say they have been repaired because the problems always come back. I feel that, after reading several reviews, this is a common problem, but neither Chevy nor their dealers have an appropriate solution. The doors will open or close randomly, alarms will sound saying door is open when it is not, and many other problems.

WARNING: DO NOT SLEEP IN THIS VAN OVERNIGHT!!! As a twice wildfire evacuee in one year, I learned last year ( trying to sleep in van when I ran out of hotel funds and places to couch surf) that these seats cut off lymph drainage in back of thighs. Think that’s minor? I did. Except my legs and feet were swelling by night and not going down enough by day. Lymphadema became cellulitis. In hospital 3x fighting this on Lasix IVs and every antibiotic they had. These seats are NOT safe for sleeping sitting up or for long drives without breaks!!!! Also if you are thinking “I can sleep in the back lying down” The seats don’t fold flat and there are gaps. And you can’t lock the doors from the back. My work around sort of was to call Onstar and have Onstar lock all my doors and unlock them later. But if my cellphone battery died in the middle of the night, I would not have a way to call Onstar. Can’t reach button to call from back area. Van is poorly designed for emergencies. Mechanical- At 110,00 mi Transmission and power steering both need work. Value is around 1500, and repairing about 3,000. Sadly, if I don’t fix it in order to avoid vehicle loan payments, Van is heading to landfill or parts graveyard. —— At 105,000 mi - Everything starting to fail or have problems. In past year, I’ve had over $1000 in repairs and facing another $1000 in repairs. This is a gently driven van. If you are buying a used Uplander, thoroughly check —- 1. Rack and pinion 2. Power Steering for leaks 3. Electrical affecting signals and dash lights 4. Operation of power door (That people want to grab and open manually - flip that power switch off to avoid an expensive fix!) 5. Seats may cut into back of your legs if sitting a long time. You could cause lymphadema to start in your legs ... this can be very serious! 6. You can’t lock front doors from back seat unless using remote key fob. My key fobs failed and new batteries didn’t work.

Well, I'm writing agian to tell more. As of today the van has been in 11 times. We have dealt with anthing from a shotty cupholder that has been replaced over and over to tie rods. Today as I speak it's in the shop because it died on me (funny, it was in the dealership's parking lot), the steering wheel vibrates when brakes are applied and when I start it the ignition keeps turning and turning. It might take 4 times to start it or just 2, I never know. GMC wants to give us...are you ready for this.... 2,000.00 to go toward a BRAND NEW car. The dealership will take it as a trade in to sell us another. It doesn't fall under the Lemon Law because the same problem doesn't keep occuring. HELP?

Biggest piece of junk out there! That is the kindest words I have for the 2006 Uplander. Has been in the shop about 15 times since buying it 3 yrs ago. Leaked water into the back and soaked our luggage, lights on interior and exterior flickers all the time, poor brake quality, ABS lights on all the time, transmission slips when shifting from reverse to drive, DVD player skips even on brand new disks, road noise is horrible, steering column makes a grinding and knocking sound. Just an overall horrible vehicle.

The service department has had to replace the power steering shaft and steering column in it 2 times now and the sliding doors haven't worked for quite some time. It's no wonder GM doesn't make this vehicle anymore. I feel it is a safety hazard. I don't recommend this vehicle.

My 2006 Uplander cannot hold a candle to my 97 Venture. I had this vehicle worked on numerous times. The air conditioning just does not cool good and the dealership keeps telling me it is OK. In the summer time this vehicle takes forever to cool. I have had numerous parts on the exterior break and be replaced. I also have problems with the lights flickering. It just does not have the interior room like other vans. This vehicle was definitely not worth the money I paid! I would never buy an Uplander again.

Traded my Monte Carlo for this van used not even a year ago. Has been in the shop 6 times. Has cost over $1500 in repairs and has to go back into day because "starting is disabled" Have replaced a wheel hub. The brakes shake you out of your seat whenever you depress them. The steering grinds when you turn right. The electronic doors will close and crush a gallon of milk. When you hit a bump the door alarms go off. The reverse warning system tells you, you are going to hit something when there is nothing there and then lets you back into parked cars. The DVD player stopped working just after my baby discovered it was there. Interior noise it horrible! Don't just walk away for this buy, RUN!!!

Any repairs were under warranty and have since purchased an extended warranty to last a few more years. I would recommend this van to anyone. My 5 grandkids love to ride with me. The DVD player is great. They watch movies and also play video games. I have driven it from FL to OH three times and felt safe and comfortable each time. Handles well in rain. Plenty of storage space. ONLY drawback is the leg room up front for my husband. But I am the primary driver so not a problem. Need a nice van? Get this one.

We recently upgraded to an Uplander from our Chevy Venture, due to high mileage. We love everything about it and are proud to own a Chevy! One thing that impressed me was how much leg room there was in all three rows even with the captain's chairs in the middle. Plus the seats are nice and solid, so you don't sink in to them when you sit in them. The DVD is great for long trips and the fuel economy is GREAT! We love our Uplander!

I had water leaks. The dealership hit my van and repainted the bumper that doesn't match. I really wish I would have done more research before I bought this van. Where do I start. This vehicle has so many problems it's unbelievable. The sliding doors, ABS, Traction Control, Stability System, flickering lights, brakes, rotors, tires, bearings, hub assembly, cruise control, tie rods and much more. It was great at first and then it just got bad real quick. I have owned 9 Chevy vehicles and this is by far the end of me ever buying another. I would trade this piece of junk in, but can't find anyone willing to give me anything for it. Of course the warranty is over and the repairs just keep coming. I'd love to hear if anyone had any success in getting any resolution and would gladly take any recommendations. I'm sick of it, but stuck with it.

I really like the exterior look of the van. After driving it around town and on a long interstate trip determined that it handles very nicely in both types of driving (feels safe, too). Absolutely love the DVD player, satellite radio, and other extras like 17 inch wheels. The two tone leather interior is very sporty. I had to remove the rear storage unit since it took up too much storage space.

Family Vehicle, Family Price

Write all you want about SUV/Minivan looks, builds or whatever but to me minivans are family vans. The Uplander is for Families. We got a program one which means families like ours can afford one. It has room for families. It has comfort for families. It has durability for families. My only complaint would be I'd like to see something to replace the false buttons on the ceiling console. Why have false buttons to show me what I could not afford? Other than that this a minivan for familes.

I love this car/van/suv because the interior design. It is a good family car plus the rear air condition is great. I did not buy the model with all the bells and whistles but the standard equipment alone offers a good bit.

Was the first new car we bought always bought used. Had problems with this van from day one. Seems Chevy has a problem with the electrical system with this van and doesn't want to admit it. Was in the shop 3 times for the same problem with the gas gauge before it was fixed. Just got it out of the shop last with for another electrical problem. Not a very comfortable ride for a 6,3" person legs are very cramped. Don't like not having a center console. Be sure to get the extended warranty with van your going to need it. Been the most unreliable car I have own in the 18 years of driving. Never again buy a Chevy mini- van. Should have bought a Dodge.

Honestly, I am very impressed with the interior luxuries of our fully loaded LT. Exterior is a little bizarre, but bearable. As far as performance, anyone who would describe any mini-van as "fun to drive" is really reaching, that, or they have not owned anything else. My van accelerates well and offers reliable safety - precisely why I bought it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trading the Benz in for another one...

Traded our Venture due to high mileage. During warranty period, power door motors had to be replaced twice, along with stabilizer bar, and horn. Power doors and back lift gate never close properly and road noise was terrible. DVD sometimes didn't work. Rotors replaced at 20,000 miles. After warranty expired, trouble continued. ABS light came on - $500 for a sensor and then needed another $1500 for wiring? Braking always scary -grinding and shaking when stopping. Power rear vents would occasionally not close, and power doors would open by themselves. If it would work right the van was nice. Trading for a Toyota.

We love our new Chevy Unplander Mini Van. It has everything we were looking for. We also own a Chevy Lumina Van. And the new uplander has some many thing that we have noticed an improvement over the Lumina. Chevy has done a great job with the new Uplander

Our Uplander has a malfunction in the sliding door that cannot be resolved, despite the best efforts of various mechanics at the Chevrolet dealership. The car often fails to turn over when trying to turn it on. The car is fine on the surface, but leaves much to be desired as far as being a quality vehicle. To correct some of the Uplander's problems the dealership sold us "computer upgrades" which did nothing and cost around $90 each.

Problems with steering

We bought our van used with 58000 km. Now it has about 94,000 km. It had a few little annoyances but nothing compared to now. As many of you have said, your steering is noisy and so is mine. I have a strange problem. It seems when it rains and the van is wet I can't even turn!! If I'm holding down the brake and try to turn the van left it seizes up. I wait a second and slowly it loosens up and lets me steer? I also have a terrible grinding noise that comes from the rear. The brakes were just done and again when wet this noise comes back. Maybe we should try and trade it in? Any advice would be appreciated.

Reading the reviews, I wish I had beforehand, I can feel everyone's pain. This vehicle has been nothing but problems from the day I bought it. The driver's side seat is uncomfortable, taking out the 3rd row is practically impossible, it hardly even moves when you push the gas. I have high mileage and had to have major repairs done, Chevy told me that they can't do anything because of the mileage. And I asked them why the put 6 numbers on the odometer. I try to buy "American" when I can, but they will never see another one of my dollars again.

Overall I like to appearance of the Uplander but the reliability of this vehicle is horrible. I've had the rotors replaced twice, new tires, the lights (internal & external) flicker constantly and their is a constant buzz in the windshield (I have a friend with the same van and the same buzz). My Venture was a nicer vehicle.

Quirky little things that need to be fixed. Gets better gas mileage than expected. Would like it to be a bit more stylish and needs automatic rear hatch

This van doesn't have enough power to merge quickly onto the highway. The captain chairs don't have armrests and not enough room from the edge of the seat to the side wall. The air vents are hard to direct the air to blow directly on the driver. The third row bench doesn't stow away and almost impossible to remove and put back in, as a woman I can't do it alone. There isn't enough room behind the third row for all of my groceries and I have to stack them on the third row seat. Too many blind spots, especially for short drivers and when the the third row seats are up. This alone has caused me to be in 5 near accidents in 6 weeks. The DVD play skipped on our last trip w/ an new DVD in it.
