Engine Light x2

2019 Chevrolet Traverse Premier 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 9A)

I was in love with this vehicle as everyone should be when purchasing a new vehicle. I purchased the 2019 Traverse Premier, I was a afraid of changing from a compact car to a SUV but I have gotten adjusted to it. At about 6,000 miles a few weeks after my 1st oil change my engine light came on resulting in a catalytic converter issue, replacement. I took it in for service and within about 1 week and half my Traverse catalytic converted was repaired. I took my Traverse for its second oil change to the dealership which I had to pay out of pocket since my dealership only offers 1 free oil change and shortly after, 2 weeks or so the engine light came on again, shocker! It turns out being the catalytic converter needing to be replaced this part went to a "special case" so there is no ETA being that it's a 2019 and they are having trouble getting the part. I'm sure they are sending them off the line without issues but here I am in a Tahoe loaner basic model and I must say it drives a lot better than the Traverse plus it has the HD radio stations that for some reason the Traverse does not. I'm just very disappointed with this experience. For a warranty of only 30,000 and only at less than half with 2 issues already is worrisome.

Great for the 7 days it was on the road

Transmission failure left me on the side of the road at 600 miles. Dealer attempted fix but vehicle had pronounced transmission whine and smelled like burnt parts after driving. Back with the dealer now for another repair. At this point I'll have been in a loaner vehicle as long as I was in my Traverse. Isolated case? Maybe, but at this point I'd have a better review of my Malibu loaner.

Traverse replaced Armada, pathfinder, and tahoe

After owning the Traverse for a year, and multiple cross country trips, we couldn't be happier with this vehicle. It has performed better than expected, the fuel efficiency is amazing, and the roominess and comfort are better We owned and Expedition, Tahoe, Armada, Pathfinder and the Traverse has exceeded expectations. This vehicle has renewed my faith in chevrolet. It is extremely quiet, fuel efficient, and has more space than the Tahoe and Armada with a smaller footprint. I am amazed at how well this vehicle drives with the lower ride height than the truck based frames. I was not expecting this to be the best in class vehicle, but I am amazed at how easily it parks, turns, and handles, and it has enough space to carry my extra cargo due to my disability. Chevy has made a long term family car and changed its quality perception with this vehicle.

Went with the 2019 Traverse RS

Brian H., 09/04/2018
2019 Chevrolet Traverse RS 4dr SUV w/Prod. End 2/19 (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
56 of 61 people found this review helpful

After much research of the Traverse and usual competitors, we went with the Traverse with RS trim, as it had everything that we wanted and needed. It has leather seats, surround vision, upgraded sound system, and 20” black wheels. We have been driving the vehicle for a week now, so this is a preliminary review. There is no noticeable drop in acceleration with the 4 cylinder turbo engine, and it does have slightly more torque than the 6 cylinder models. This engine would probably not be appropriate for heavy towing. The bonus is better gas mileage around town. We were first going to go with the LT Leather Trim (3LT), but discovered at the last minute that Chevrolet had pulled a fast one between the 2018 and 2019 model years. They have removed many standard features from the 3LT trim, including the surround vision! All of the reviews available talk about the 2018 model and what was standard on the 3LT, and the change in standard features for 2019 was very hard to come across. The Chevrolet website defaults to the 2018 model when comparing trims. The sales people probably won’t know about this. It’s almost as if Chevrolet doesn’t want people to know. Seems odd to remove standard features, instead of adding them over the years. If you want the 3LT leather trim and features such as surround vision, you need to add the new LT Premium package for a little over $3K. As this is just an add-on and not a trim, it will be very hard to search for online. We were lucky that the dealer had an RS available in the color and with features we wanted. As with any auto purchase, make sure you verify all important features on the exact vehicle you would like to buy, especially before traveling a long distance to a dealer or ordering sight unseen.

Great Long Distance Vehicle

I couldn't really give honest answers to some of the questions because I have only owned this vehicle for a week. This is my second Traverse. My first was a 2011 and I loved it. Nothing but routine maint. on the 2011 so I'm hoping for the same on the 2019. I DO like the new one better than the 2011. Plenty of get up and go. Handles well. Very comfortable, especially, on long trips. Plenty of room. I would definitely recommend this vehicle. My only disappointment is that there is less U.S. made content in this vehicle than the 2011. My traverse is now three years old and I have no issues or problems.

27,000 miles and loving it...

Update at 27,000 miles. Overall we Still love this vehicle And are satisfied with it. Other than issues mentioned below I notice the Bluetooth connectivity as well as direct connect is flaky. Sometimes I’ll use lightning cable to direct connect with intent it’ll immediately play whatever song I’ve selectEd on the phone. Sometimes it’ll just play through the phone and not the Traverse’s sound system. I’ve gotten to where I’ll just let it play Through phone and in a minute or two it’ll all of a sudden switch From phone to the Car’s system. But again the only thing left to confirm is it’s reliability in the long run. I’ve had no reliability issues in the first 20 months of The car’s life. Coming from a 2011 Honda Pilot LX this SUV is a definite upgrade. We decided to give the Traverse a look given its class leading cargo space (quite a bit more than the newest Pilot) and its appealing exterior design. I bought this 15 September 2018 and it’s now 31 October. I’m happy with the Traverse. Lots of in town driving and I also did a 1500 mile round trip from CO to OK. Everything went well. Very comfortable, quiet inside and absorbs bumps well. Acceleration is good. Fuel economy on highway was about 24-25mpg during the long toad trip (3 adults, 6 yr old and a 2 yr old in the fully loaded Traverse) but I’m not a slow driver by any means. I love the front camera as well as the video camera linked to the rear view mirror (I’m not talking about the backup camera). I turn it on while driving down the road most of the time. The only complaint is the climate control. Shortly after we bought it it got really hot in Denver metro. Based upon our use it seemed as though it wasn’t that quick to cool down using auto climate control...especially in middle row where our two kids are. A couple things. We started by using the auto climate control. I noticed that the air flow never got as high as I thought it would given how hot it was outside and the temp I was aiming for inside the Traverse. Weeks later I was browsing around in Settings and realized there was a setting that actually limits the airflow in auto climate control. Be sure to change that from medium to high. But regardless I think that Chevy MIGHT have tried to save a few dollars by minimizing the amount of insulation in the roof - resulting in the cold air flowing through the hot roof to the vents warming up during its journey. I can have the AC set as cold as possible (manual climate control now instead of auto) in both front seats and rear seats and the front seats are getting cold air while the rear is getting warmer air. For whatever it’s worth I own the black (exterior and interior) Traverse.

Great Car - but not all features

Susan, 01/30/2019

I purchased this vehicle AFTER having a 2013 fully loaded Traverse for the past 5 years. I LOVED my 2013 and it's been a wonderful car. I was excited to get the newest model and upgrade. Most things are truly an upgrade but there's a few things that are really disappointing. First of all, this car did gain extra space even over the 2013. I test drove the new Pathfinder (horrible 3rd row, cannot even compare with the Traverse)...same with the Ford Explorer. Much more room for the person in the Traverse sitting in the 3rd row as well as cargo/grocery storage. All the new safety features are nice and I love the birds eye view on the camera. Now for the bad. While the birds eye view addition is great...the actual back up camera itself went backwards in time. The view is blurry, not as great in the dark AND can hardly see down rows when backing up. The 2013 backup camera beats this one by far...I NEVER worried when backing out of parking spots as you could see so much to the left and right of the row..this new camera is horrible and I have to spend more time using mirrors to double check my view. I would've hoped with newer technology the image would be the same or better. The other bummer is that if there is ANY moisture on the car at all, whether it's rain or condensation...the minute you open up the back passenger doors water drips right down onto the seat and your head. We have to keep towels in the car now to wipe off the seat before you sit on it. I understand if it's pouring..but the weatherstripping or design is flawed and it's a pain to have these drips all the time. Also the car overall just doesn't seem put together great. The day we brought it home one of the fenders had snapped off partially, dealer fixed it. But there are gaps and spaces in a lot of the 'moulding' (not sure what you call it...just doesn't seem like all the body parts are super secure). Overall though..the car is beautiful, wonderful features and still great to drive..I just wish there weren't days I missed my old one so much due to the camera. If you are new to having a backup camera, you may not even notice. The birds eye camera is great for parallel parking too!

4.5 years into ownership. the Premier Redline looks are still awesome on the outside. This is a Range Rover Sport look-a-like for $30k less, although a sticker of $60 is a lot for a Chevy. REALITY The acceleration is UNDERWHELMING. A bit underpowered and having front wheel drive (although I have AWD model) really makes the car less sporty and has very strong torque steer/pulling under hard acceleration. Some of the interior parts are very cheap. The rear sun shade handle cracked off 2+ years ago. Cheap part that requires much investment to fix. Not fixed under warranty, cause the warranty is over. The 3rd row seats are squeaking like crazy when someone sits on them, meanwhile, they are hardly ever used. CHEAP! The shifter will not go into Park sometimes. Actually, it’s in park, but the car will not recognize it and in order to be able to turn car completely off, without beeping constantly, you must pull the shifter trigger over and over until the chiming goes off. PAIN IN THE ASS! The seats are very comfortable and the ride of the truck on the 20’s are perfect. Such a comfortable SUV to drive. Coming out of a 2012 Pilot and this is another world. The radio is a bit confusing to look at... great sound system but the readout is not an easy quick glance. Navigation is also a bit complex but I use Waze 99% of the time anyway. Apple play is the best. Gas mileage is as advertised. So much room in 2nd and third rows. Kids love it and so does my 90lb goldendoodle. Headlights are great. Fog lights are not LED and look terrible (embarrassing) with the great super white headlights. Why they didn’t make the same, baffles me. Overall I like the car. The technology is really good, although the speedometer and other dials look a bit outdated for a 2019. Buy the redline if you like a sport look and you will really enjoy looking at it. Long distance super easy in this SUV or running around town. Update: now have 33k on the SUV. So far, overall, still a beautiful car. Here’s what’s gone wrong: 1) rear suspension spring within first 7k miles was squeaking on every bump. Had to be replaced. Seems like common problem 2) Rear deck hatch handle cracked for no good reason. Just cheap clips. (Told not covered under warranty). $100 3) Front center exhaust hanger broken at pipe weld. (Common problem on this truck). “Repaired by Chevy dealer… broke again within 10 miles of driving it (of course I’m on a 1,400 mile summer trip). Damn tin rattle every time I accelerate. Very cheap for this to happen with a well cared for car with 32k. Tired and brakes still original. Tires will most likely be replaced with about 35k 38k on them. I’m impressed they lasted this long. All tires seem to go at 20kish now a days, especially under load and lots of local driving. Most of my 33k is hwy and suburban local driving. 47k miles now - Again, Chevy/American cheap build is showing its ugly head… plastic parts just breaking on the interior. Paint in front chips super easy with road sand blast or bugs over time. At 55k mikes now - There should be a recall for the parking shifter. Upon going into park after driving and shutting the car, the electronic shifter does not recognize the shifter in park and stars so on the dash, leaves car electric on and chimes. Must pull the shifter trigger over and over until it clears. Reported to my dealer, they couldn’t care less and said $700+ to fix. I looked into it… it’s a bit labor-some to take apart and get to the cheap little plastic piece that needs to be replaced for the gear shifter to recognize it’s in park. I refuse to pay $ for a faulty and cheap design. I will keep triggering until stuck one day. Been going on for one year. Otherwise, all else ok, so far. Btw, maybe it’s the 20” wheels, but this truck is not great in snow… lots of wheel slippage and bad breaking distance. My Infiniti Q50 AWD is much safer in the snow. Damn shame. 70k on the clock now Jan 2024… 5 years into ownership. Overall, everything is still ok and all of the above stands as the truth of ownership of this SUV. I still like driving it, but can’t totally fall in love because of its underwhelming power and bad traction.

After test driving it overnight, we fell in love with the power; fuel efficiency and interior comfort it provides. The over all look and feel is amazing. You know the saying, “Happy wife happy life.” My wife was in awe with the comfort and room. I was impressed with the infotainment system and alll the USB ports. NO need for the kids fighting over charging! 100% satisfied.

The blind side warning monitors do not make a sound, which is crazy. They do in most other manufacturers vehicles. I hope they upgrade the software to do it.

After 2 weeks of owning the 2019 chevy traverse, bought new, we couldn't start the car. Had it towed, dealership kept it over the weekend and blamed it on the battery. Saying something was probably kept on. 2 weeks later, same problem. Now they have to contact GM engineers because they dont know why it wont start. Seems like they have had my SUV more than myself since buying it.

I previously owned a 2015 Traverse LS trim, which I loved. I just got a good offer on brand new 2019, same LS trim. What an amazing SUV, I was amazed from the amount of options and features you get with an entry level trim. I give it a 5 star for being one of the most comfortable family carriers in the market today.

My first SUV in over 20 years and can’t believe I’ve waited so long to go back.. test drove the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot.. The traverse was the roomiest and Hands down felt the smoothest. I’m 6 03 and this suv has more than enough leg room and space in all three rows. Gas mileage has been surprisingly low as well. Great job Chevy

So there is a known defect with Chevy where your message center tells you to shift to park when your car is in park. It will not allow you to shut the vehicle off because it does not recognize that it already is. I love the look of this car but think it ridiculous that this defect will cost you$400 to repair and is not covered if your car has 35k miles. My car was purchased new and has 38 k miles when this defect occurred. The manufacturer will not cover it and after doing some research, it’s across a few Chevy models so buyer beware. It’s obviously a maker defect and ridiculous that the consumer needs to absorb this cost.

Love the size and style of my 2019 Traverse. Only issue I have encountered is the brakes have been squeaking since a couple weeks after I purchased it and they keep telling me it is normal. I don't know about you but I don't want to pay for a brand new car that squeaks. I have gotten a different explanation every time I have asked about it but still no resolution! Chevy should notify customers in humid areas that the brakes could possibly be squeaky. I would have NEVER purchased this vehicle had I known that they can't figure out how to make brakes that hold up to the environment. I definitely won't make that mistake again!

I have nothing negative to say about this vehicle. The ride is smooth, no road noise, plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Engine has a lot of power and the 9 speed transmission is very smooth when shifting gears. The on and off engine feature took some getting use to. I traded my 2016 Traverse in for the 2019 Traverse. I like the styling of the new Traverse, a more boxer vehicle. Friends of mine who own the Honda Pilot and Toyota High Lander are looking to trade their vehicles in for a Traverse. General Motors has a winner with the Traverse. I highly recommend this vehicle is you are looking for room and comfort.

After ownership for 46 months, I am still satisfied with the Traverse High Country. I have used it for travel and local business without any issues. I continue to follow all the maintenance requirements and so far so good. Always take it to the Chevy dealership. Traverse still rides comfortably plus happy with the gas mileage. I'm satisfied with 61,306 miles.

I loved the traverse until the transmission went out. Only 3,000 miles and it wouldn't shift out of first gear. I hope the dealership will get it fixed, but I'm concerned that they will only patch the problem long enough to get me through the warranty. Update on 7-29-21. Traverse now doesn't shift into park when turning the ignition off. I shift it to park, shut off the ignition, and then the I'm prompted to shift it into park. The only remedy is to start the ignition, shift out of park, and then shift back into park.

Bought this car bc I was having a third child and all 3 kids are in car seats so I wanted a car with room. Interior of car is what I expected. I owned the car for less than 2 weeks when it got towed from my house. Turns out in was transmission problems. They had my car for 10 days to repair. Now 5 months later it got towed again! I know all brands of cars have lemons but it’s very disappointing that Chevy isn’t doing anything about it. My family and extended family have always bought chevys but no longer!

I wish it was offered in FWD. Didn't want multiple moon roofs. Don't like you can't disable the engine's start stop feature. It's a very attractive SUV. The dealer would'nt offer the new GM 6 year extended warranty, instead pushed a much more expensive offering. Dealership was very pleasant to work work otherwise. Total trans failure at 16000 miles. Vehicle locked up in traffic. Took almost a month to repair. I have had a few more service issues. The latest one I have now is when I shut vehicle off it keeps telling me to shift into park, whitch I have done. This happens over and over (about 90% of the time) and alarm goes off and will not quit.

Too many rattles for a new vehicle

Don't get the sunroofs. They are so cheap and loud and poorly made. The shades are so cheap they should not be in a car that costs more than 15k. They rattle when you run over bumps and the shades flap in the wind if you drive with the windows open. The dealer told me they hear the rattling but other Traverses make the same sounds so it's OK. This is the last Chevy I will ever buy.

Engine light came on after like 10k miles and they replaced the exhaust manifold. Now at 39k miles there is an awful rattling noise and rpm is revving higher than it should. They are thinking bad catalytic converter. Sounds like this might be a frequent issue with 2019 traverse. Not happy with this at all!! So beware! Get extended bumper to bumper warranty.

The 2019 is a much better SUV then the 2017 I had. Love the look, has some great features. The interior trim is just cheap. So far inside of a year I have had the window moulding fixed, the center console latch replaced and now the rear sunroof latch needs replacing. Interior noise level is very loud. Have had a metal sounding noice since new. Could be my last Chevy and maybe done with GM.

2019 Traverse Primiere edition

'Hands down the worst vehicle I've ever purchased! Issues with Catalytic converter from a factory cracked tailpipe. Had to take it in a few times before they found the problem, within 2 months of purchase. Then the other tailpipe was cracked they replaced it a little quicker. Next, my brakes were squealing and they did nothing except saying it was dust and they were fine. Then when I stepped on the brake and my car slid I made an appointment and found out there was a recall on the back brake pads? They never called me. 'Now for the second not work winter my heater does not work properly? Three trips to the dealership to be told it is working properly because the car changes from warm to tepid to cold air due to the ambient temperature outside? So I've never had a heater in a car that will not continue to blow warm air. This Vehicle is a joke. I will never buy an American-made car again which is a very sad day.

2019 Traverse - Leaves a LOT to be desired

T E DeLaO, 12/17/2019

I have been wanting to write a review for months now on my 2019 Traverse LT. My very first complaint has to do with the Bluetooth. Can you tell me why it takes so long to connect? Any why Chevy cannot make it so my Bluetooth automatically plays after it finally does connect? Also, my two USB ports that connect to my screen have stopped working 13 months after purchase. I hate the auto-stop "feature" that is actually not a feature AT ALL. I did not purchase the model with the second row "captain's seats" and the seat belt for the middle seat in my second row has already been replaced because it was crushed by my kids trying to get into the the third row. The driver window does not have the auto up feature where you can push the button up once and the window automatically closes completely. I drove a 2013 Honda Accord for 6 years before getting a bigger car and I never once complained about any of those things (besides the seatbelts because obviously, my Accord did not have a third row). I thought those "features" were standard in all cars because honestly, my Honda was 6 years old and things had to have improved, right? I never bothered to ensure this car had those things and I regret it so much!!! Don't get me wrong, the main reason I bought this car was because it was the only car in my budget that could seat 6+ people and that it does comfortably but it could be SO much better. It actually needs to be better!!!

This is what I would term a large SUV. Not as large as a Suburban but PLENTY big enough for me and, unlike a Suburban, fits easily in my garage. I selected a top of the line level (Premier AWD) with a really attractive package (Redline). It draws attention, is comfortable and quiet. I read when acceleration is rated just ok. Call me crazy but I didn't get it to race and it accelerates just fine getting on and off interstates and passing others when needed! Mine has every toy you could want except one: I really wish it had a HUD but such is not available on this vehicle at this time. I have that feature on my other cars and love it! I can't comment too much on reliability or fuel economy as I haven't had it long enough for that but, so far, I am getting about 20 mpg in combined driving on regular gas (vs my other 2 door car which gives higher mpg but requires premium).

I have had my premier traverse for 2 months and I am not happy with it. When driving on scored highways it fisheries. I'm not moving my hands and you can feel the motion. Even passengers notice it. I had it checked today and they said nothing is wrong and cars do that when driving on that type of road. My 2014 traverse NEVER did that on those roads which I drive on weekly. Very disappointed in dealer what is it going to be like in ice and snow. Deeply regret buying this car. Regular roads are fine but you can't choose roads.

Great family crossover so far, very large but easy to drive. Feels like a driving a car. Has more room than any other mid size crossover but gets about the same mpg. Also a powerful v6 with over 300hp. Touch screen works great and is responsive. Intertior lighting and exterior lighting are awesome. Air conditioning is awesome and powerful. So quiet in inside.compliants are some features (front camera) only available on higher trims when they should be on lower trims or a option. No sunglass holder. And cup holders could be a little better. Overall great crossover suv.

We have a 2019 traverse w 11k. The back hatch/door hinges literally broke! The door couldn't shut and chevy says its not covered under warranty??? Wtf you lost us chevy, yes I have to option to spend over 1k to have it fixed just so I can sell it. When you spend 40k on a car you shouldn't have to have "repairs" like this. Thats the whole point of buying a new car, right?!?

I have owned 2 Traverses now. I like my 2019 RedLine Edition very much. It is a sleek looking SUV. Gets great gas mileage both city streets & Hwy. They changed up some of it's features & it's a lot more modern. It's a bit wider & maybe longer. Giving you more leg room all around. Love the extra storage that they added in the rear under the carpet. The ONLY thing I personally HATE is the "Auto-Stop", hands down, it's annoying & just plain unwarranted. People sitting at stop lights have asked if my vehicle has stalled & do I need help. Also, I do wish that it had the option to eliminate the 3rd row seating. Other than those 2 items I would recommend the Traverse to everyone looking for a mid sized SUV.

Update: check engine light came on couple weeks ago. Something about a flap or something by radiator that wasnt opening and closing to vent. Supposedly it was an easy fix and it was still under warranty. Also, I hate the auto stop feature of the vehicle. The vehicle shuts off everytime you even get to a dtop sign. And if you have anything charging, when autostop happens, the phone stops charging. Love my traverse. It is so spacious. It can accommodate two car seats plus leave the rest of the passengers ample leg room. Plus it's loaded with features- blind spot, surround camera, leather heated seats, remote start, life gate. The only negative I can think of is that the brakes aren't sensitive enough for my liking and the blind spot monitoring does not make an audible sound.

While the High Country trim level comes with a significant increase in price, all the safety feature and accessories that come with the package make it worth the price! Perhaps the best feature is outstanding headlight illumination of the road ahead, but also important is the lane keeping feature and automatic distance keeping cruise control - no more tailgating due to being on cruise. The power lift gate and rear folding seats are very convenient as are the exterior courtesy lights that shine out of the front door bottom to illuminate the door sill. The electronics are easy to use and the dash is well laid out. In my opinion a great SUV!

The 2019 Traverse does not have electric side mirror for folding in and out. I was so disappointed they took this feature away. You can adjust the mirror from the inside, but if you want them to fold in or out you will have to do this manually. Why pay this much for a car that doesn't apply this option, which should be standard.

I have owned my Traverse for 1 yr and was in an auto accident with an 8 wheeler running my front end over. I would say that the Traverse took it like a champ! I walked away ! So if your reading my review and looking for a safe car then you in the right place! I am glad to be part of the Chevy family even more after my accident. Thank you Chevy for keeping me safe!!

I purchased my 2019 Chevy Traverse new and at 50K miles I've already had to have $2800 of major repairs done. I had to repair my Front Exhaust Pipe and Muffler that was not covered by my powertrain warranty that cost $1600 to repair and my bank 1 catalytic converter was cracked and had an exhaust leak that would have cost $1200 to repair. Fortunately, the catalytic converter was covered under my powertrain warranty.

Took my Traverse LT to the mountains on a ski trip with three adults and a lot of luggage and stuff and it performed very well with the front wheel drive especially on icy roads. It performed as well as any Tahoes and Suburbans I have owned and great mileage. The engine is powerful and handles passenger loads of six adults quite well. Overall I am very satisfied with the vehicle. The seats are not the most comfortable but the materials are nice and durable. Dislike that I cannot override the stop engine feature like in my 2020 truck. My biggest concern is the transmission temperature can go as high as 212 degrees in summer weather with ambient of 95+. The engine temp. readings are normal but quite worrisome why the transmission runs so high and the long term effect it could have long term.
