S10 Mean machine
This is a great truck. Has so mucn power and is very dependable. 4.3 L is the best enginee GM has ever put out. Tows trailers with ease and has great traction in the snow.
S-10 needs some recalls
I bought my truck in Oct.2002 The dealer was very unhelpful once I signed the papers. I am a diehard chevy fan but I have had a couple of problems. The problems I have had are: the secondary air injection pump went at 40k and the dealers I talked to said they have seen alot of these come in to replace. The other problem is the seat recline handle broke off, G.M. should have known better to use potmetal to hold the handle on. It is CHEAP!! I feel that G.M. should be talking with the dealerships more to fix these common problems(recalls).Cheaper is not always better and the competition is looking better all the time when these situations arise.

S-10 is an excellent choice for students
I have had my Xtreme S-10 truck for 1about 1 1/2 years now and I have not had any mechanical problems other than normal wear. This truck has been very reliable to me while I was in school and driving a lot of miles. I would not recommend the regular cab truck to someone who is any taller than 6 feet unless you dont mind being a little crammed. This truck is an excellent decision for a student who wants a truck that is reliable, fun to drive, looks awesome, and is relatively inexpensive.
good trucks
i have had 7 s-10 trucks they have all been good trucks
this truck owns
every thing owns and it looks great
Like a Rock
I have been quite pleased with my S-10 extended cab 4X4. I 've taken it on a 2,500 trip and wasn't worn out at the end. Enjoyed the CD and cassette during the trip. It's been an easy starter - even in our cold Montana winters. Bucket seat could use a bit more padding but is adequate. All in all, after having driven a Ford Ranger, I prefer the S-10.
The best truck for value
I was in an accident with this truck and it saved my life. (I was rearended) There was alot of engineering genius in protecting vital areas of the truck. I was able to drive away. It is a tough truck that lives up to the slogan "built like a rock". When I have to get a new vehicle in the way distant future I will get another truck from GM!
awesome
It is really nice you should get one if you want a truck it haul's ass
Not overly impressed
Bought this truck to replace an aging Lumina 18 months ago. In that time I've put 33K on it, with little problem. Replaced a throttle position sensor around 70K miles ($145). However, replacing a fuel pump is NOT cheap. The pump itself is $530, not to mention the premium price that GM dealerships garner.
Great Reliable Vehicle
I bought this truck as used with only 36,000 miles and am still driving it with zero problems. The only maintenance I've had to do is the usual oil change and air filter change. I definitely got my moneys worth.
Not bad considering...
I've been mostly pleased with my S-10. The biggest problems have been having to replace both front wheel bearings twice--apparently a design flaw that has cost me $2400. And the gas gauge has stopped working and I can't see putting another $700 to replace the fuel sending unit to get it to work. Other than that, all major mechanical systems have continued to function to my expectations. It has 94,000 miles and starts every morning without a problem.
Another piece of GM Junk
Door hinges wore out after only two years. I have had leaks in the truck since day one. It couldn't get out of its own shadow, even on a down hill run. It is a base model so there are no electric components to give me any issues(electric locks, windows, etc).
Dependable
Bought the truck with 5K miles on it from a young couple having their first baby. I have almost 140K on it and it has been the most depenable daily driver I have owned. I knew about the potential ball joint problems and had grease inserts put in. I replaced the shocks at 50K,not because they were bad. Light trucks tend to fish tail over gravel and wash boards and I wanted better stability. I had the rotors turned and new pads put on at 75K, and the lower balls joints replaced at 135K. At 104K I changed the plugs, plug wires, flushed the radiator, replaced the lube in the transmission and rear end. Other than normal maintenance nothing else has failed. Oh, I replaced the battery.
I love this truck
I love this truck. I have a small lawn service and this truck has never had a problem with my trailer, or any thing else, even with a load of mulch at the same time. The only problem I have had with the truck is since I am the second owner of the truck and the first was my grandfather and it was never really used in 4 wheel drive and we had to replace almost the entire system (costly)
perfect
its awesome

Purchased used with 198k miles in late 2017, now has almost 270k miles and not a single problem or fix needed other than break pads, tires , tune up. 2.2 5spd that works daily dragging a loaded trailer.

You Get What You Pay For
I bought a 2000 S-10 LS Reg Cab, Short Bed for around $14K. It has the Vortec V6 engine. I couldn't be happier. I've had a couple of rattles here and there but functionally the truck has been great. Would I have been happier with a Toyota, Mazada, etc? Assuming those are better overall trucks, which cost more, probably not. Price was an important issue for me. I would recommend buying an S-10 to a friend.
2000 s10 review
i have had very good luck with this vehicle. There have been no problems with it so far. I am very well pleased.
2000 S10
I have only owned this truck for about three months. The truck had 44000 miles when I bought it and I have had to replace many "expensive" parts. Guess GM doesnt build to last. Also the real kicker is this truck has the 4L60E automatic transmission which is total JUNK! It needs to be rebuilt and after doing research on this trans I find that GM has known abouth this problem since 1996 but has failed to improve the design if this trans. So at or about 40000 to 60000 miles you can plan on rebuilding this junk transmission. Guess I would be happier if I didn't have to look forward to paying 1800.00 for a trans rebulid. Start saveing OR BUY A STICK SHIFT.
my truck
i love my s-10,i got used and it's got some snot for a 4 cyl. i drive it alot,i mean i have a lead foot, and the truck accelerates nicely. i've taken that truck soaring over hills at about 90 and it handled the abuse well. flying around corners in it is great, my friends don't even notice it, and i'm hualing ass too. my friends (the girls love that truck, long story) the guys think it's awsome i mean it's got a good sound system in it for stock
