GM needs to do better

2004 Chevrolet Impala 4dr Sedan (3.4L 6cyl 4A)

Owned the vehicle for 4 years. Bought it with 29,000 miles on it; traded it at 90,000 miles. Great 1st two years of ownership. Comfortable back seat, great on long trips, liked the exterior styling. Interior did not hold up. Seat material started looking like an old sweater, paint on interior controls faded away, front seats squeaked endlessly etc. Started getting nickeled and dimed with 150-250 dollar repairs around 70,000 miles; tranny went out at 90k. Bottom line, the car seemed to age very poorly. Would not recommend it as a used car purchase.

Great car

This is a great, solid car. Sporty enough for a middle aged gal like myself, but grown up enough for a middle aged gal like myself. It handles great, and has a good solid feel. There is little cabin noise, and there is plenty of room for passengers. All of the controls are comfortably placed. In fact, I prefer it to newer models I have driven. I average about 29 mpg on the highway, and 22 mph in town.

2004 IMPALA SS "INDY" - ALMOST PERFECT

2 "Indy SSs arrived at "my" dealership & I shot over with my driving gloves. I gave a salesman a "serious" 1 hr road test. After the test he said that my reputation had preceeded me & he knew he was in for it when I got behind the wheel. I didn't disappoint him & I bought the "Indy" that day. I'm prejudiced toward Implalas having owned a '01 LS. It was problem free, fun to drive & got a lot of compliments. The '04 "Indy", 240HP supercharged is better. Steering & suspension are tight. Terrific engine response-smooth shifts & the engine wants to pull forever! Beautiful 17" diamond-cut aluminum wheels. The P235/55R17 "W" Goodyear Eagle's & large discs haul it down quickly. It has few negatives.

SS or bust

The 3.8 V6 that comes standard in the 2004 SS is a thing of beauty. It's the same motor that also came in the older Grand Prix GTP's. 240 horsepower and even more torque makes for going anywhere a fun experience. Tons of aftermarket support for this motor to make it even more fun. I got lucky to find an Indianapolis 500 Edition SS (only 4,088 were ever made) and I'm sure there are nowhere near that many left. I purchased it with almost 164k on the clock and have put almost 5k miles on it with zero issues so far and and plenty of smiles per gallon.

Best Car I've owned so far

I've owned several cars, and I try to run them all until they give out. I've owned Ford, Isuzu, Nissan and others, but this car has been the best. I drive 70 miles a day round trip and love the handling, acceleration and comfort. Even though others have gotten more MPG, I only get 26 on the highway. Also, if you're over 6ft tall like me, you will love the leg room in both the front and back. The only problem I have with the vehicle is the stereo system. I know people today are into a lot of bass, but I like my sound well rounded. This system puts a too much bass for me, and is difficult to adjust to just the right amount. Minor problem for a great car.
