Used 2004 Chevrolet Impala Consumer Reviews
My red Impala
This car is by far the BEST I have ever owned (Stratus,Intrepid,Corolla,Mustang)! I had waited 2 yrs to purchase an Impala and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! The drive is incredible! So smooth and quiet and the acceleration and cornering is impressive! Gas mileage is great for a larger car (22/32). The interior is full of room and trunk size is amazing. My kids and hubby (big guy!) fit perfectly and comfortably. The stereo has lots of different features (auto volume, radio data system,)and sounds fantastic! This car turns heads constantly (especially when it's clean and BRIGHT red!).
This is my 2nd 2004 Impala! Love it!
I bought a used 2004 Impala with 35,000 miles in 2008 and drove it until 2013. Traded it in going strong at 228,000 miles. Always regretted trading that car. Fast forward to 2023. My ridiculously unreliable SUV blew its motor and I was looking for a quick replacement. I saw a 2004 Impala with 74,000 miles for sale in town. Although it was waaaay below budget I decided to be nostalgic and check it out. I bought it right away. I just love driving this car! This generation of Impala is super reliable, so inexpensive to maintain and repair, easy to repair myself, cheap parts, comfortable front bench seats (like driving a big comfy couch), great highway cruiser with a strong engine that can get up and go when it needs to, suspension feels like you're floating down the road. This year model is still a big body "land yacht" that looks classy and echoes earlier models. It will really take a beating, too! I hit a grown deer dead on with my front bumper. The deer died instantly but there wasn't a single scratch on my car from the incident! Amazing! These cars are also a lot of fun to customize and "trick out," which I'm doing with this 2004 Impala. So many options and aftermarket parts available! I've had more people compliments on this big 20 year old car than I ever did with my other past cars (including high end 5 series BMWs, Infiniti Q45 and I30, and a classic JDM Acura Integra). This car is loved by everyone who encounters it! Only warning on ownership if you're consideringthis car - if you just tint the windows and don't even do any custom mods like rims, LEDs, "Skyline" taillights, etc., you WILL still be profiled, especially in rural areas. I am profiled, pulled over and harrassed by police for ridiculous reasons like going 4 miles over the speed limit and questioned about drug possession in a rural area in the South. As someone who doesn't do (or sell) drugs, it's simply a minor inconvenience when the police pull me over for ridiculous reasons.

P.O.S. '04 Impala
Got it used w/24k on it. Since I have had it I replaced two wheel hubs ($400 each), replaced instrument cluster assembly ($500... gas gauge had stopped working), replaced two heater cores ($900 each), replaced heater control head so the heat could actually get out the vents ($500), ABS light coming on ($1000), replaced steering shaft (warranty), ETC!!
Time to fix the Impala again : (
The Chevrolet Impala, Hmm hmm hmm. Where do I start. The exterior design is boring to say the least. The interior design even more boring. The heater/AC vents have all broken on my car (Thanks GM for really putting some effort into designing this car) I bought this car used in 2007. Right after I bought it the AC broke and the water pump went out. About $500 in repairs. What else is wrong with this car that shouldn't be: The cigarette lighter went out, the rear defroster went out, the back right window stopped rolling up, I had to replace the front wheel bearing assembly. Ohh and now it makes a loud annoying squeaking sound coming straight from the serpentine belt.
First 1 i've owned after driving several
Most of the variations of the impalas I've driven have been very good and dependable. The one I have just bought recently seems to be very dependable. It has been well maintained other than rock chips all over the hood, (former owners lived on a dirt and gravel road). It has a lot of miles, mostly long distance highway travel. The paint seems to be original and other than being enamel instead of lacquer, it has a quality paint job. The interior is very pleasing to the eye, except for the carpet. The exterior and steering wheel that should be a dark Gray or black color. I'd buy all I could find of them if I could afford to (most would be used for passenger transportation in a shuttle business).
