Early HHRs had many teething problems; some of them serious. My 2010 model has been trouble free. The car went in for two recall items: ignition switch and power steering, even though I was not experiencing any problems. Neither visit cost me anything. My mileage isn't great - about 22mpg (80% street). I don't use ethanol. A drop of ethanol has about 85% the energy of a drop of gasoline. Not to mention some water content. The car is plenty peppy for me. The A pillars are very thick; take a little getting used to, but the interior is very comfortable. Entry/exit is very easy unlike some cars with a low roofline. I also like the useful cargo area and A/C. There is a little compartment in the middle of the dashboard - very handy. I do my own oil changes and the HHR is the best car for this. The new type oil filter is so neat, no mess. Owners of earlier models have reported transmission problems at around 40K+ miles. I only have 33K miles; no problems yet. So far I'm very happy.

Nimble retro wagon

Trim Not Listed in Edmund's dropdown dumbown. 2LT (running boards, rack, e-options), 2.2l Flexfuel Automatic, (not edmdumb's M5 dropdown). E85 fuel boosts power/performance, but mpg lags from regular. 89 octane is best, or blended at 20%. I bought this GM Certified from a Dealership; formerly a Hertz rental with 14K miles on it. Nimble, economical, safe, versatile 'retro' 2wd wagon. Low profile tires, average ride quality, good handling FWD. OK handling in snow; very low first gear; great for slow trawling in traffic. Removed rear headrests for better rear view; narrow view and limited rear wiper clearing. 2LT has OnStar, Bluetooth, Sirius radio, on-board plug-ins, compass, temp. With front passenger seat folded forward and rear seats down, a flat-space sleeper. Could use a sunroof- outside vents let in heated air off hood. Located a factory hard-plastic rear privacy cover in scrapyard. Secure, but spare "donut" and jack, etc. buried under cargo storage tray(s) in rear. Headlight bulb replacement is a technical task. If the battery dies, no access to battery under the rear cargo deck (electric rear hatch release). Under hood there's a module for charging to open rear door. Replaced trans fluid at 95K, not a DYI; a performance boost! There is a very comprehensive HHR blog space. Ongoing issues with electronic dash system; "air bag service". Replaced key fob and "ESC service" light closed. Approaching 110 K miles, replaced suspension components/tires; performance still very good with 21/27/23 mpg.

2010 HHR Lt2 with leather seats

this is a wonderful little car. I wanted a small car for parking in San Francisco but with lots of storage for all the cat paraphernalia and this is it. The lt2 had the option of leather seats and that's what we got. It's silver with black leather. All it needs are black fenders to complete the look. The engine displacement is the larger 2.4 L giving it 172 HP.

2006 vs. 2010

Just got my new 2010 HHR, traded a 2000 Blazer and the interior size is comparable. My son has the 2006 HHR model and I enjoy the interior changes made. Body Style is identical, which makes sense since it is fashioned after the Heritage '51 Model. They moved the window controls to the door. Cup holder positioning is still a problem - trying to reach around behind to access. Seems solid and really quiet (I chose the bigger engine). After the initial lag (1 - 2 second response delay)on take-off, runs great. Hope it lasts at least 10 years!

Just traded 2006 Chevy Colorado for a new 2010 HHR. What can I say? I love driving it. Handles great, makes sharp turns like a real sports car. Turns heads. Best vehicle I have ever owned. I can wait to get back in and drive. Shifting is clean effortless and smooth. All I can say is One great vehicle.
