So, I wrote a review on this Equinox about 2 weeks after i owned it. Now, after a few road trips and a bit of long distance driving, I am ready to give a more in depth review. Firstly, The navigation interface is very frustrating. Very cluttered and most often in rural areas cannot find the address you are searching for. Luckily, Android auto with google maps makes it a mute matter. Secondly, My god those vented/heated seats are amazing! On a 4 hour drive to Vermont, they were very much the hero and highlight of the trip. Thirdly, that fuel mileage is awesome! over 530 miles to a tank. I was just laughing on the highway watching the remaining mileage go up and up as i drove on the highway. Just spectacular! Other highlights to be noted were the driving lights have great distance, the Bluetooth calling is crystal clear due to the 4 microphones, the bose audio makes great sound, and the layout of the car apps are a breeze. I do say that there is a bit of road noise (those are the tires, not the cars fault), the auto engine stop is annoying at times in city driving (put it into L6 to bypass this issue) and the lane assist isn't as aggressive as i was told it would be. But hey, those are not deal breakers. All in all I am loving this SUV. The handling is mint, the diesel noise is almost non existent, and the interior is very comfy. If you want a long distance family cruiser...this is your rig. **Note: I also have the "3" as the first digit in my VIN so that might be why mine is a great runner.

2018 Chevy Equinox Diesel

I went from driving a 2014 Chevy Sonci RS Hatchback to a 2018 Chevy Equinox Diesel. I decided on diesel due to the MPG, and the amount of driving I do daily. This car has been great. I am getting 40+ combined MPG. I have put 8000 miles on this car in 4 months. My only complaint is that it never ReGened. I got an error message the my engine power has been reduced ( can't go above 20 MPH) and then the check engine light came on with the message that it was trying to ReGen. Vehicle cannot regen under 35 MPH. Car was continuously driven until the Regen message went away but engine power did not resume and check engine light was still on. Took car to dealership, again only 4 months old. They had to do a manual regen, change out the DEF fluid, and replace a sensor. Tried to tell me that I stopped in the middle of the regen hense messed it up. This is not true. The dealership also let it slip that while the car is regenning, you will get no notification. So how am I supposed to know to keep driving? I can't do something that i don't know if happening.

I liked our 2017 ford Escape SE with the 2.0 which had amazing power but this new Equinox gets way more compliments. People really like the interior with the two tone black and tan leather. The Diesel is a bit spendy and hard to find but on the way home from the the dealer we averaged 46 mpg on the highway which is kinda insane for a big comfortable all wheel drive cross over. We buy a new car every couple years both foreign and domestic cars at around the the mid 30’s price range and I have to say this has been one of my all time favorites. Great Car!! Update: We now have 23,000 trouble free miles on it after purchasing new. It has been a great car in the snow. It has gotten better fuel economy. On the highway we often get over 40 mpg with the diesel. We have gotten many compliments on it. I highly recommend the purchase of one.

We wanted to add an extra car that we could take on longer trips and haul 4 people with luggage. We originally looked at sedans. Then we saw that Chevrolet was offering an Equinox with a diesel engine. I've been a diesel fan since we lived in Europe 20 years ago. Once we saw the Premier version of the Equinox and the estimated fuel economy, we were sold. We've had the vehicle for 10 months. It's been to Florida once and several 400+ mile trips. The fit and finish are excellent. It's comfortable for long trips. The panoramic sun roof is outstanding. Acceleration off the line is OK but I tend to feather the throttle a bit to help fuel economy. Once it's up to speed, the outstanding torque takes over and it just goes. Overall fuel economy has been in the low 40's. Diesel fuel costs a bit more but in our area, it generally stays around $3/gal. Gasoline has more cost fluctuation but it seems to be around 10% less than diesel. Considering that we're getting probably 20-40% better fuel economy, we're making out!

First of all, I have only had it for a week so I cannot speak for longevity or reliability. Apart from that, first impressions are everything and I am very impressed. I have been a diesel lover since day one so this pick was a very attractive option. The 1.6L diesel is like most people said, not as "tire roasting" as the gasoline options but it will chirp the tires. I found it to feel like a rubberband that is thrusting you forward. Off the line its reserved until the turbo kicks in, then its quite fun. Its quiet and for the most part, sounds like a muffled diesel jetta. You wont notice any difference it so quiet. Handling is very impressive. Its tight and very responsive, more than my 1998 volvo s90 thats for sure. I like the road feel from the steering wheel. Its slight but not over powering and good for "sporty driving". Interior is very nice in the premier trim. The base model felt like a plastic box with hard bolstered seats and a fabric interior like a 90s Ford Taurus. The leather is soft, and the air conditioned seats are a gift from the gods. How isn't this a standard option on every car blows my mind. The legroom is great for tall people in all locations except if your a 2 year old. Then some how you have the longest legs in the world and kick mommys seat (get a seat protector). The infotainment system is great. Easy to use and easily configured. I love the layout for the driver display. Its simple and keeps all the clutter to a minimum. Features are great in the premier too. The wireless charging is nifty and the kick to open rear hatch is great if your a dad that has to grab all the groceries in one trip. Fuel economy is awesome for an AWD suv. I never take it out of awd because it gets 39.8 MPG with it on. Why bother with it? All in all....im very impressed and I will highly recommend one to anyone who wants AWD with good economy. Purchased in Canada (hence why the price is high)

I’ve had the Chevy Equinox Diesel premier for 4 months now and have just over 7,000 miles. Went into the shop 30 days after I bought for 4 weeks due to an electrical problem, and going back into the shop again. The vented seat on the driver side does not work, the phone charger station does not work, and the sunroof interior cover came off the tracks and no longer works. The sunroof glass does not close correctly. I’ve been extremely over fusterated with this car! Buyer beware!

Only a few hundred miles so far but so far so good. I think I got a really good deal on this purchase. The vehicle drives very good on the highway. When I drove the Equinox home from the dealership Iiterally wanted to take it back and tell them they must have sold me a 1.5Turbo and not a Diesel. It is really quiet on the highway and has plenty of power. Like the reviews I have read on youtube you can tell it is a diesel under the hood at times but it really does not bother me. It is a fuel sipper right off the lot. I love all of the electronics in the Premier, yes you can probably get by with the LT because of the carplay and it comes pretty loaded but I figure since this is a keeper for me I would go all out and get the top of the line premium. Seats are comfortable. I have two little girls so the 5star safey rating matters and the Equinox is easy to install car seats. This is a perfect daily commuter that can double as family vehicle when needed. I will update in a few months to be fair to consumers that are doing their research. One last thing. I bought one of these about a month ago and the paperwork was messed up so I had to give it back and since I did not like the way I was treated I went an bought another one at another Chevy dealer and the one I have now drives better. Both of them Premiers but they do not drive the same. The first one had a noticeable diesel rattle. The one I have now has a slight diesel vibration in the steering wheel at start up but the passengers do not, that was not the case for the last one. The one I have now has a VIN starting with a 3 so I am told that means it was made in Mexico. I am going on record to say they did a good job on this vehicle, The other one was not. Monday car verses a Friday car? Bottom line ...this is an excellent fuel sipping commuter / family vehicle. I absolutely love the idea of filling up once a month! I have literally been praying for someone to make an affordable diesel SUV. Updated the value rating. You can snag one of the lower trims for under $25,000 bucks!

05/2018 You would only need the AWD in a state where you get snow or ice a lot. FWD would be fine in the south. The Mileage with this is GREAT! SO far 48.3 MPG highway and 33.5 MPG in the city

Really happy with this car. Gets well over 40 mpg on highway. Very comfortable without being too big. Gets lots of compliments on two tone biscuit and black interior. Feels well made and decent materials. AWD works great in the snow. Have driven 22,000 miles since new and only took it once to replace a small filter that went bad. Thats it.

Better Than Expected

I'm a diesel guy and currently have 5 of them: Equinox, Jetta, Q5, F350, 300SD. A friend in the business did a nation-wide search and got me this one cheap after I rented a gas one waiting for my Passat diesel to get repaired after a collision. I loved the utility and driving qualities of the Equinox, particularly the seating position and visibility. When I found out a diesel version existed I had to have it. Bought with 20k miles, I've added 6k in 3 months. Sold the Passat. Handling is spot on. Love the comfort level. Prefer it to the wife's Q5. Controls are intuitive. I love the vented seats, power lift gate, remote start, heated steering, cargo capacity. Overall about 38mpg. 33 in city, 39 at 80mph Idaho to Las Vegas twice, 46mpg on 70mph highways. This is better than the Passat which is not AWD and has less capacity. Interior materials are better than I had expected. I am very pleased. I changed the oil myself without much hassle, once I realized I would need to loosen a cross-member for the filter to clear. A couple of gripes: the stock Michelin tires which need to be replaced soon, which may be an issue with alignment or just this style of Michelin. I'm going to put some SUV all-season tires on so I can wander the desert. Next, all the messages and auto-start/stop that I can't turn off. I managed to turn off a lot of the nanny stuff but not all of it. I do like the lane change warning lights on the side mirrors when in the city. I am happier with this used car than I have been with any new car I've ever purchased. My '17 diesel Colorado was good utility-wise, but had quality issues, making me leery of GM overall. We will see how this thing lasts and I'll update if I detect any problems. I encourage others to do so as well since there is very little out there for research.

At 60000 miles needed new torque converter and transmission. Dealership hard to work with. I complained about the noises for months prior. Told me I had to wait for engine light to come on. Less than a month after new parts put in the same noises started. They blew me off big time. They new it was a problem car and after numerous visits and complaining they provided me an extended warranty. 50000 miles later back in shop with same problem and now add a diesel particulate matter sensor (not covered) for 800.00. Worst 35,000.00 purchase ever made!!!

The 1.5 gas is kind of rough shifting, not very peppy. The 2.0 gas is very nice, smooth and has good pickup, but I want better MsPG. The Diesel is slow from 0, but pretty lively after it's up into 30-40 MPH and very good for freeway maneuvers. I am concerned about long term reliability, and not in a hurry, so I'll wait and see a bit. No strong opinion on tech yet. Didn't drive at night.

Make sure you have a long test-drive, maybe a 24hr one. We were given a two day test-drive and we still ended up buying it, after almost 3k miles we wish we hadn't. The Diesel gets great MPG but it is incredibly loud, I am familiar with diesel vehicles, and this thing was louder than my 83 300D Mercedes. The driver seats have a ridiculous amount of bolster support, which seemed nice at first but tends to hurt my back during longer drives. The diesel motor is quick once it gets going, it does have a lag with the turbo. That being said, once you are going the suspension falls short and the SUV just tends to slosh all around. You might think that would make the ride that of a luxury car, but it definitely doesn't have that. The ride isn't bad, but for the lack of command in turns it should ride like a Lincoln. The infotainment system is pretty good and easy to use, I like the center speedo screen and how it works with the infotainment screen. All in all, it does have a few nice touches, but it mostly feels cheap. Dirt also shows on everything since all of the interior is flat black. I do appreciate Chevy bringing the diesel motor to more of their line-up, this one was just a miss. Maybe it will be better with the next model year.

I bought the Diesel version, and with the idiots now at the top of the country raising gas prices through their actions, I'm glad I did. Car is comfortable, and the turbo diesel gives me not only pep at starts, but great gas mileage. Around town I get around 32, on the freeway I've gotten 52 mile per gallon on one stretch of highway driving, normally around 48. Filling DEF fluid is easy. Love the car. Unfortunately the diesel will no longer be offered in 2020 versions. With the political climate, that may change.

I traded my Buick Encore Premium for this diesel Premier Equinox and got more space, features and economy. About 31mpg around the city suburbs and about 40mpg on the highway. 44mpg best so far! Great handling probably due to German roots with Opel Antara! Only thing I wish it had was auto windshield wipers.

I bought a new 2018 Chevy Equinox from dealership. Of course once the warranty is expired that's when it starts having issues. My car had Torque Convertor issues @ 49,000. I spend over $2,000 to fix an issue that Chevy has redesigned in newer cars, now I am stuck with a design issue. I am in the process of asking for the money but they are giving me the run around, stating that because I took it to a non-dealership that they are unable to reimburse me. Yet, they sell GM parts to non-dealerships with manufacturer warranty on parts. [non-permissible content removed]. If I don't get my money back, its the last time I buy from GM.
