2014 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4dr SUV AWD w/1LT (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

I went through 4 junkers the first year I started driving in 1970 and have owned over 50 cars since. The 2014 Equinox was my first new car and I could not be more pleased. I traded in a high end 2007 GMC Envoy that I loved but got terrible gas mileage. My GMC was a powerful 4 wheel drive tank and I was worried about how the Equinox AWD would handle New England's heavy snowfalls. The winter of 2014-2015 was one of the worst I have dealt with and the Equinox took on the snow, ice and cold without fail. I get around 25 mpg and drive the car pretty hard. For a 4 cylinder it is very quick and I have no complaints.

I bought this car used, in early aug. 2016. It's the ltz model with awd v6. All the rating of 4 stars would be 4 plus. So far I am very happy with equinox. I have not had any problems, it drives and rides nice. Also on the ltz model at least there are rear air ducts under the front seats.I think you should drive the 4 and the 6cyl engine before making your decision tho.

I have owned minivans, big suv's, and cars. The Equinox is "medium sized." MPG in normal driving is 24, highway 28. Ride is comfortable even for trips. Decent room for 5. Rear cargo area is adequate. Only complaint is a leaking rear shock which was replaced under warranty. After hearing about some internal engine oil passage ways being a little undersized subject to restricting oil flow causing early timing chain failure I started changing oil at 5000-6000 miles . Oil monitor reaches 20%. I always use synthetic oil. Prefer Mobil extended, Pennzoil, etc. Cleaned throttle body and new spark plugs at 50,000 miles. Still runs like new. As of Feb 2018 vehicle used 1 to 1.5 qts oil in 3000 miles. 2014's had internal engine revisions to slow down piston rings issues. Still highly satisfied with vehicle. Upgraded front brakes to drilled slotted rotors for better braking at 30000 miles. Originals had too much fade under hard braking. Now have 70,000 miles. One time oil usage issue has not occurred again. Appears to be no oil usage in 5000 mile oil change. Feb 2019 replaced front struts\sway bar links and rear shocks in 2018. Still no oil issues. Changing oil at 4000-5000 miles hopefully to avoid the major engine failure. Clean throttle body yearly. Vehicle still starts and runs like new. As of August 2019 now have 86,000 miles. I now change oil around 4000 miles, which is 50% oil meter. Uses about half quart oil between changes. Like to keep oil clean. Vehicle still runs like new. Change transmission fluid every two years. There is a drain plug and refill port making it easy.

Our beloved 2014 Equinox is now our beloved 2015 Equinox (don't ask). Anyway, it is identical to the 2014, as far as we can tell. My wife and I purchased a 2015 1LT in 'candy apple red' with the black interior in September of 2015. The only option was the 8-way power driver's seat with the remote start package. Chevy improved this vehicle every way imaginable over our 2005 Equinox, which we LOVED. The ride, the handling, the quality of the seating, the quality of the interior, and all of the included electronic possibilities make this a truly fun vehicle for us to drive. 2/6/2020 Update - Our 2015 Equinox passed 50,000 miles today and NOTHING has needed repair in the 4 1/2 years of our ownership. Still love this Chevy!! 8/9/2020 Update - Same as above after 5 years. 8/10/2021 Update - Still loving our 2015 Equinox.

Based on Internet reviews and comments, I bought a 2014 1LT Equinox with the 6-cylinder engine. I now have 600 miles on the vehicle, and am very satisfied. Acceleration is great, it is comfortable and quiet, and it drives and handles well. (On that latter point, I have seen comments about less than precise steering & handling. I have not noticed that in my Equinox, and wonder if that has to do with the fact that the 4-cylinder Equinox has electric power steering, while the 6-cylinder has hydraulic power steering.) BTW, my gas mileage with the V6 has been HIGHER than the EPA estimate - even during break-in. It is now two years later, and I am still very happy with this car. No squeaks, no rattles, no problems, no repairs. The reason that I bought this particular car was the V-6 engine and the premium Pioneer sound system. I have been very happy with both. On the highway, driving from Chicago to Detroit, I averaged 26 to 28 MPG, according to the onboard computer, and had all the power I needed to merge, keep up with traffic and pass when needed, all without high RPMs.

7.5 years old, 68,000 miles no issues or problems.

I bought this SUV for a family car as an upgrade to the old Montana SV6AWD. It has the 3.6 V6 LT2 leather heated seats and sunroof. It has a tight nimble handling with plenty of power for acceleration but gas thirsty in city traffic. The trip computer does give instantaneous mileage and average over 50 mile distance. Only driven 500 miles but everything works well except the transmission shifts feel vague and sluggish at low throttle speeds but crisp under acceleration. I wanted the extra power for a full load of adults with luggage and deep snow for AWD in the mountains. The rear seat is only suitable for 2 adults and 3 in a pinch. It came with the a CPO extended warranty but will need an extended service contract to 6 years / 100K miles for anticipated repairs to a typical GM product. It has all the features of a higher priced SUV and I like to buy USA products(even though built in Canada) and have a local Chevy dealer for service or local mechanics. I hope it gives long term reliability and comfort for the wife and kids and those occasional family road trips. 8/2018 43000 miles of wife driving mostly inner city trips. First mechanical failure was the windshield wiper motor transmission during a heavy rain storm this weekend and I have installed new ceramic brake pads all around at 40K miles and in for Dexos oil and filter changes every 6 months. Overall it still is gas thirsty but runs well on highway and enough power with a full load and A/C on to keep up with traffic. The transmission shift points still feel soft or vague at low throttle settings. 2/2019 48,000 miles: The car mechanics and electronics still working like new , mostly inner city driving by my wife . Just replaced 4 tires with Michelin Latitudes and handles well in the snow again. Gas mileage still low due to city traffic but has the power to pull 5 passengers uphill to highway speeds quickly. I would still recommend it for an affordable mid size with a V-6 alternative to expensive imports but only time will tell it's durability.8/2019 52,000miles. Still running well with no problems encountered with recent Mobil 1 oil change at home . Next visit to dealer for the routine oil and tire rotation and a detailing. Wife and I like the car since we bought it .2/2020 and 56500 miles. Still running very well in all weather conditions and all the mechanical and electronics are problem free. The broken wiper problem is a defective part and is under a recall from GM. The engine used about 0.5 quarts of oil between changes and the gas mileage in the stop and go city traffic is only 13-15 mpg and 20-22 mpg on the occasional highway run. Still has plenty of power and a good value. 8/2021 66,000 miles and still running well without any mechanical or electronic problems. Routine oil changes and tire rotations and had NHOIL undercoating last summer to limit underside rusting. Fuel mileage always low in city driving, but the V6 power still worth it when needed. I would still recommend if you can find a low mileage one at this time . 2021 and 68,000 miles without any mechanical or electrical problems. Body and suspension still solid and noise free ,using dealer Dexos oil change and tire rotations on schedule and extended service contract not needed yet. Still recommended if you can find one with low mileage and good maintenance records.8/2022 and still has no issues or repairs.Wash and wax and still looks as good as 2017.The V6 engine option is still a better alternative to the 4 cylinder and the newer Blazer ,Colorado and Cadillacs still use it .8/2023 77,500 miles and still has been mechanically trouble free (knock on wood) , Interior leather still like new,Exterior body and paint holding up to New England weather and suspension and tires to the bad roads. Wife still enjoys driving it around town and work and hope to keep it for 100K miles or more if still trouble free.Been a good vehicle from an USA manufacturer!

we have taken several very long trips in this car. Mine has never been at the dealer for any problems at all. No recalls, nothing. Coming up on 4 years of ownership, no problems of any kind. It's an excellent highway car. Several long trips, very quiet and comfortable, coming up on 50 k miles. My only real complaint is the raspy 4 banger engine. We've had no engine problems and once in high gear at 70 mph it's fine, tranny works well but city freeway driving is not fun as your have to really thrash the thing down the on ramps. Update: Still totally solid car. About 60 K miles now, still feels tight, like new. Our favorite car for traveling. Update 70k miles. Absolutely no problems. Still on original tires and brakes. Update Around 75 k miles. Never one, single, issue with this car. Excellent reliability. Update Close to 90K miles now. Other than basic maintenance no problems whatsoever

I looked at and test drove a handful of other small to midsize SUV's thinking i was finally going to get what i REALLY wanted and not be penny pinching this time around (within reason). Nissan, Acura, BMW, to name a few and couldn't help but come back to Chevy. The functionality and beautiful design far surpassed the others. I'm almost 3 years in - coming to the end of the lease - and if it makes sense, will definitely consider keeping it. There a few minor things I'm not crazy about: an optional piece had to be added between the back seat and cargo area to keep things from slipping between the large space between. There is molding that is coming loose on the front passenger side underneath the door jamb. Sometimes when using blue tooth to play music, it gets stuck saying the song has been paused and i have to close the music on i-tunes and restart it for some unknown reason. Other than that, i couldn't be happier - no major issues and she's nice to look at too!

I had problems with the motor almost as soon as I bought it. Check engine light came on and multiple trips to the dealership failed to correct the problem. In the 4 years I owned it, maybe a total of a collective year the check engine light wasn't on.

Bought 2014 Equinox with 86k miles. By 100k it started idling very rough and stalling when coming to complete stops. Ended up having to replace VVT solenoid, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, and o2 sensor. Also was told at time of repair that my car was short 3.5 quarts of oil and that Equinox’s are known for excessive oil consumption. Wish Ik all this before hand smh...ready for a trade-in!

If you enjoy replacing the crankshaft position sensor and both camshaft position sensors on a regular basis/yearly and replacing the rings then this is the suv for you! 2.4L ecojunk, maybe I got a lemon, maybe they are all lemons. Buying one with over 50k will be like rolling the dice!

Its a comfortably reliable SUV. The steering goes out. Chevy is aware but doesn't recall. And has a clause in warranty to not cover. But I love my SUV. Hate Chevy for not fixing a issue that there aware of. Safety concern.

The bumper-to-bumper warranty is over, but the drive-train warranty still has some time. It's got two mystery sounds that may need servicing. There is a very quiet, high-pitched, whine at particular times, almost robotic, like during parking: I would compare it to a 4th of July firework coming down, and a bass, quiet pounding under the rear sometimes as I backup, or other times, like someone dropping furniture. The design is the most pet-friendly I've had. It's great for me who is uncomfortable in small cars and insecure driving trucks. UPDATE Nearest Chevy dealer got rid of noise by changing transmission and brake fluid. The OnStar Navigation is more expensive than cell phone but more convenient. My dashboard warned me about black ice this morning. You can push a button on your mirror and ask OnStar to dial a phone number. The newest concern is smoke out the back in cold. Hopefully it wont be major. I like how it is quieter from outside noises than previous cars of mine. The front bumper hangs low enough to catches on curbs: $300 to fix. I hear new intermittent noises around the rear wheels like a voom air pocket of weight coming down, and a high pitched screech down under the center while going very slowly. (That stopped with regular maintenance). My hips and legs get cramped on 4 hour daily commutes sometimes. The car feels otherwise roomy. The side mirrors have close up lenses on them. I am past 50,000 miles: planning 3rd set of tires. Update 104,000 miles new battery, brakes last year. Tuneup recently. Driving in light snow lately. Mileage decreases almost half around oil change time. Currently 24mpg. Not running it as much. Still working great. Quiet.

I had this car for a year and, unfortunately, it was just a headache. The Bluetooth either didn't stay synched with my iPhone or the sound was crackling when I tried to listen to music that way. I didn't have this problem with my previous car or the one I got after this. The car felt jerky at low speeds, but two dealers said this was normal and that Chevy makes them that way (no other car I have ever had drove like that). I have to assume there's something wrong with the transmission. The final straw, however, was when the car died in the left lane of the highway with less than 20k miles on it. The car was repaired under warranty and I notified the manufacturer. When my husband got a 2015 Ford Escape, I found that the comfort and level of technology seemed light years ahead of what I had in my car. Needless to say, with each passing day, I became more disappointed in this car and eventually traded it in for a historically foreign manufacturer. I have very little good to say about the car, except that there was adequate leg room and the trunk held a lot.

This car has had many engine issues. They started at 25000 and continued. It has had 2 different oil consumption test. Now it has 121000 and I have to replace the timing chain and crankshaft chain. This is my first Chevy and last. Also fuel injectors have to be consistently cleaned. Nothing but problems.

Bought a 2014 Equinox, missed work, kid missed school, fogged windshield, would not defrost, very unsafe, could not see and drove off paved rode this is so unfortunate. I did bring it back to the Dealer and they said it was normal on these cars. I am so disappointed with this vehicle, I just had to take it back in because the Air conditional was not working, Van York said that they put in dye and filled it back up. This should not be happening what are the Chevrolet company waiting for a number of Fatal accident. I was so happy when I bought this not knowing that it was going to have so many problems and we are stuck with it.

Bought new 5 years 3 months ago. Very reliable. Only one mechanical issue that needed repair so far - a problem with going dead while idling. Was repaired at dealer for around $350. Reasonably priced vehicle when purchased. Still good gas mileage - usually 30 mpg highway. Some things that would make it better: shorter turning radius, better rear visibility when backing up (but does have rear camera), quieter and smoother ride, more comfortable seating (especially rear). But, overall for the price it’s been a really good vehicle that’s met our needs and still runs great.

I have had this car for over 6 months and 12, miles, and have not had a single problem with it. It handled this past NJ winter snow/cold without a whimper. Didn't need AWD in the snow. I have gotten 32 MPG straight highway and 27 MPG mixed. Could I think of things to add to the car to make it better? Who couldn't. But I am happy with this car and the price I paid for it. It is a very comfortable car with a great engine and great milage.

40000 canadian out the door. Oil eating under powered piece of junk. Way too many issues to list since new. Timing chain stretch throttle body sensors after sensors exhaust manifold cracked in half. Dash blanks out. The list goes on and on. Stay clear of ecotec motor unless you want to drive around with a gallon of oil in the trunk all the time I've always liked gm products. Pricey but always told my wife you get what you pay for. Never again. Fool me once right?

2014 equinox LT2 has been good for me, 80000 miles and no problems, even got 79000 miles out of the tires, and only bought new ties because of nail in one Update, traded it in on a Honda EXL 2018, more bang for the buck, and about what I paid for the Equinox.

Check Engine Issues

I bought my care NEW in 2014 and the car was running good. By year three the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they changed the camshaft sensors, when i asked why the sensors needed to be changed so soon their response was this care burns a lot of oil. I asked if I should be worried and what else will happen, the service department said "nothing this is under warranty we will change it no need to worry" this happen two more time. Then in 2019 as soon as the warranty went out, the car had 87K miles on it and the light came back on. Now I need a Catalyst Convertor and per the service department I will also need to change my timing soon. No explanation as to why seeing as tho i take great care of me car and I have low miles on it. the Service department just said "This happens" GM offered me a discount to repair bring the cost to 840 but only if I fixed it right then. The General Manager turned it into a sales call and asked me to buy another car with a warranty. REALLY? needless to say I will NEVER buy another CHEVY. I thought GM was a good brand since this was my third one and second NEW one but NO these cars are only meant to last 4 years.

Gravel and Head Spinning

SOLD - NO LONGER HAVE - REMOVE MY NAME! Specifically asked sales person/manager about the ability of this vehicle to go UP my gravel driveway (sales person was familiar with drive). No problem was the answer. Wrong!!!! I have owned this vehicle for 7 weeks and ave 'spun out' more than 6 times. I have googled many sites trying to find out about how or issues for driving UP but only found info for driving DOWN. Not only driving up the drive but also reversing up slight incline (out of cover). The hill is NOT very steep - and is not straight up, has several flat areas, and several turns. I cannot begin to describe how disappointed I am with this vehicle. I spent over a month researching vehicles and went for over a dozen test drives of different vehicles. I feel like I wasted my time and energy. I will attempt to talk with the manager about trading this for a vehicle that will actually DO what I need it to do. I am returning to dealer because manager and his staff are very good to work with and I have been doing business with them for over 4 years with another vehicle, with wonderful results. My head is spinning trying to figure out how to operate the Infotainment system. And yes, I read the manual specific to the system. All I want to do is listen to my Ipod through the speakers; hooking up to the USB port in center console.

I was very disappointed after purchasing my 2014 Equinox. I had owned a Hyundai Santa Fe for 10 years and loved it. After researching decided to go with Chevrolet in 2013. It is so difficult to get in the drivers seat. At first I was constantly hitting my head. I have learned to bend down to get in. There is no room in the driver's seat. The console goes to the back. Hard to reach the lid to close. When going to an ATM, it is impossible to reach out the window. It is very difficult for passengers to get in and out of passenger side. Seats slope on sides and are hard. I have owned the vehicle for 5 years now. Still not happy with comfort but it’s dependable and low maintenance!

We bought it with just 15k miles on it. Plenty of power but don’t expect it to quickly accelerate. With good tires it handles fine for an SUV. We have 4 seasons and some tough winter weather. We run all season tires and have never had a problem. Interior isn’t fancy but is a great 4 person rig with plenty of room in back. Here’s my knocks. There is a delay with all hvac and entertainment switches. Turn the fan from off to high and it 6-8 seconds before it spools up to speed. Volume is the same, there’s a lag and you have to wait for it to catch-up and see if it’s the right volume. We’d buy another one. Ours is still under 55k and is in great shape. That is until last week when somebody tagged us in a parking lot somewhere. ☹️

I do not like the steering- simply put it is not rack & pinion- feels like something out of the 60's. Otherwise adequate all around but nothing outstanding. I have the 4 cyl -again adequate on power but I was pleasantly surprised at the gas mileage- ave 25/26.

Great for small family and commuting

It's not a luxury car. It's not huge. It does not have powerful engine. It doesn't have a lot of fancy gadgets on it. I consider it to be a great vehicle for commuting, for a single person, or for a couple with no, 1 or two smaller kids. It is very reliable, fairly comfortable, easy to park, and very economical to drive. After 1 year: We still love the car. It turns 6 years old this year and has nearly 65,000 miles on it. It has been 100% perfectly reliable, no repairs or problems. The fuel economy is better than expected, a pleasant surprise. We like that it is easy to get in and get out, and while not luxurious, it is fairly comfortable. The negatives: There are only two. The first is that it needs better soundproofing. Too much road noise comes through. A lot of it comes from the tires, and I've learned from other owners that there are several tire models available that will substantially reduce it. We will be replacing the tires sometime in the next year and reducing tire noise will be one of the main factors in the decision. The other complaint is that the side view mirrors are too small and do not show enough of the blind spot, meaning that extra caution must be taken when changing lanes because it is possible for vehicles to be blind spots but not show in the mirrors. Would we buy the car again? Yes. The good gas mileage, the fantastically low cost of ownership, the high reliability, the easy handling, and the easy parking make it ideal for a commuter car and for all kinds of local driving. This is what we use it for. It would be great for college students or high school students, although they might not think it is cool enough. People who need to haul around a large family, a lot of passengers, or a lot of stuff would be better off with something bigger. These factors plus the road noise also make it less than ideal for long distance trips and vacations. June 2022 - Still delighted. No problems with it. Nearing 70,000 miles and will be replacing tires for the 1st time soon. Will inspect brakes at that time for wear and may replace pads.

My 2014 Equinox is a fun vehicle to drive and has a good engine and gets good gas millage. I have only had mine for a couple of months, but so far I have no complaints. I recommend test driving this vehicle to see how well handling it is. James Corlew Dealership in Clarksville, TN was very professional and the salesman Jarren Miller was the best and very helpful in helping us with this purchase.

Purchased a new 2014 LTZ AWD as our fourth Chevy, the second Chevy in our garage. At 52,000 miles the transmission control module failed and the clutch plate damage destroyed the transmission. No consideration from dealer or Chevy for the $5,700 cost to replace the entire transmission. We'll be buying from Japan in the future.

This is our second Equinox, first one was wonderful, safety features saved my life in a terrible crash. It was a no brainer to replace out first with another. Number two is better too. Improved gas mileage (30 hwy, 22-24 City), less road noise, improved entertainment system, new touches in the interior added to the creature comforts of the car. There will be a number 3 based on what I see today.

3 weeks ago I purchased a 2014 Chevy Equinox 2LT, 4 cylinder front wheel drive. Listed price is: $33,800 Current Mileage: 1,400 I have always been a "Buy American" supporter, that is until the mid-2000's when I had my last GM product which was as bad of a car as you could ask for. Figured its now 2014 and I should give GM a try again after some reviews of similar vehicles seemed to be fairly good, TERRIBLE MISTAKE. I could write an entire list of issues on this car if the review would let me. 1 point I must make is that within the 1,400 miles of owning this car, it has now been towed 2 times to the dealership for leaving me stranded on the road.

So, We found this to be a good choice at first. With kiddos it had a nice amount of room and good cargo space. Well the back seats stay hot in the summer the kids sweat sitting back there. We got it with 30k miles on it, sensor problems out of the gate within a month. After that being done 2 times things were fine until 100k miles. Burning oil 2.5 quarts between oil changes, brakes constantly having issues. We did do routine maintenance and I cleaned the air intake several times due to build up issues and running roughly. The acceleration is awful, the comfort and space is nice I will give it that but please do yourself a favor and buy it and sell it before 80k miles or just don't waste your money in this pit of a car. Sorry if I sound mean but this was just a constant worry in my life that we just traded in and lost $$ doing that as well.

I like every thing about this SUV except three things. 1. The 2.4 engine is underpowered. 2. Bad gas mileage (about 24mpg combined). 3. Bad oil consumption. I have to add 3 to 4 quarts between oil changes. Because of this I cannot recommend this model. From my understanding the 2015-17 equinoxes have the same oil consumption problems that the earlier equinoxes had. Chevy lost millions in a previous lawsuit because their 2010-2013 equinoxes also burned alot of oil. Even though this suv is comfortable, easy to drive, is quiet, has adequate cargo space and easy to park, I cannot in good faith encourage anybody to buy an equinox until Chevy proves they have fixed the oil consumption problem.

Good Car But A Lot Of Problems!

I had gotten this car at the end of 2021 from a dealership. When I had gotten it, it was sitting at 165,000 miles. And I know that with getting a vehicle at that age and with that many miles problems would pop up. But I've had to get it fixed over three times just snice I got it and I haven't had it for more than six months. I still have my temp tags on because whenever I get it fixed and I'm about to get my plates something else happens. So far since having this vehicle I dropped so much money on it and the car itself was $12,750. Frankly I don't think it's worth the price. It might not be just the car that's the problem but it could also be the dealership that I bought it from but the problems with this car is ridiculous! Right now my car is in the shop because the timing change went bad. Now I'm not the best with understanding cars but I do know that there should not be this many problems with this car. When I got it there was no oil. And I've seen on here that its apparently a problem with oil being used excessively. I've decided that once I've paid off my loan I'm trading it in because the maintenance is too much for me to handle. I feel like it would be a good car if there weren't so many mils on it. My sister and my Aunt both have this car and they love it. I haven't heard from them about the problems they are having but my sister is the reason why I got this car because I drove it and loved it but its not worth all the problems.

I bought a 2014 2LT in Champagne, with sunroof and 18 inch wheels. This car is very comfortable, and is fun to drive. I get 26MPG combined, and I drive exactly the same highway miles as city on the way to work daily. I have 6K miles on it, and am very impressed with this vehicle. The I4 engine is surprisingly fast, and my last vehicle had a V6. The car was built to be comfortable, so who cares how many more square inches of cargo room the competition has? I have no problem hauling my carpentry tools around, and I have a lot of tools. Take a good look at the Equinox, and decide for yourself. No cliche intended.
