Equinox- good looking but certain deficits

Westchester SUV, 12/13/2004
2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD 4dr SUV (3.4L 6cyl 5A)

Love the outside look. Inside also pretty but the seats are a little hard. Problem is that I got the top of the line, LT, AWD with leather and heated seats and I feel that I got shafted with some non-amenities. Such are no light in the glove compartment. Terrible smell in car when new; they had to change anti-freeze twice. I heard others have had same problem. Heater dial impossible to reach or know whether it is on. Turn on map light in back and it automatically goes on front and blinds driver. Temperature gauge for outside air goes up 30 degrees when I am in terrible traffic. Too many problems for a nice looking, nice driving perfect size car with a sticker of almost $29,000

Love Chevs. Have driven one since 1986. This is my 3rd. Very dependable. This model has all the features I was looking for in an SUV. Small, but not too small, sporty design and low price. With Chevy quality, I think I have a winner.

I traded a 1997 Venture for the Equinox. I wanted a more sporty vehicle, with adequate cargo space and AWD. I love the ride and the overall feel of the car. It drives like a small sedan, but has the SUV features. I haven't had to use AWD yet, but I am happy I have that feature available for next year's snows. It seems well made and I have no complaints so far.

We've had the 'Nox for about 4 months and love it. Gas mileage is about 20- 22mpg. No problems yet. Love the moving seat in the back - has tons of leg room. Just took it on a long vacation and it worked out wonderfully.

Really fun to drive...it has excellent in and out space especially the rear bench seat. The fold down front passanger seat has been really useful for larger carry items. The manuverability is great. I was really suprised how light the steering is on this SUV. The radio controls take some time getting used to, but once you do, its a great sound system. And I cant say enough about Onstar! Dont know how I got by without it. Saves you lots of time. I went to a ball game and I couldnt remember if I locked my car (sound familiar?) All it took was a call to Onstar and avoided the long walk and waste of time. Ahh! the price of peace and mind. And its free for 1yr! Cant beat that.

The next generation SUV. We love the leather, heated seats. The radio controls are easy to use on the wheel and on the stereo. Love the bass. The power/torque this vehicle has is fabulous. I have the same engine in my Venture, but this is geared so much better. Electronic steering and transmission are amazing. Cruise is so much better than on the traditional mechanical transmission. 17" wheels make this SUV look so much better than the standard 16". All of my friends love it also.

This car has handled my NJ/NYC commute quite well! I am very impressed with this car, especially all the features you get for the money. Being that I am a recent college grad, this car fits what I need for my money without making me feel completely poor. I am also into outdoor activities like rock climbing and this is a perfect fit for some crash pads and a few friends.

We are long time SUV owners from Jeeps to Tahoes. The Equinox gets great fuel economy with good power. Great useable space inside, back seat legroom is outstanding with sliding rear seat. XM Onstar 6 disc CD are powerful. Unique exterior design looks like nothing else on road. Wide stance and larger tires make a smooth car-like ride and handling. We compared all the competition and the Equinox was the clear winner when all features and financing were reviewed. I would highly recommend the vehicle. The 5 star safety rating is another bonus.

I'm a first time owner of an SUV and really enjoy the new Equinox. I find it fun to drive and comfortable. My previous car was a Cadillac and my husband still owns one. I enjoy the size and roominess of it and the fact that I don't need a step stool or other aids to get in and out of it is a plus. I can easily transport my grandchildren it it. I enjoy the acceleration that I need in entering a freeway and great braking during city driving. I recommend this vehicle for all first time SUV owners like myself.

The Equinox has great interior room, confortable seats for long trips, good performance, and a pleasant ride. The fit and finish on our vehicle was very good, no complaints there. The steering seemed a little overpowered at first, but it's easy to get used to. Drawbacks are few. Solid back seat headrests and high window on hatchback make backing up to parallel park in a tight space a little difficult.

We hesitated buying a first-year NOX, but we have had zero problems. Just regular maintenance. Not thrilled with gas mileage, but is average for SUV of that size, so can't complain too much. I have the LT, all-wheel-drive. It does well in snow. My wife loves the color (laser blue metallic). Lots of folks say it look like some model of Lexus. Interior is nice - love the sliding back seat. Leather looks great but is thin. We are careful with it. Worst complaint is turning radius is atrocious, and the paint looks great but is also very thin, scratches very easily. Overall, very satisfied.

I have been less than satisfied with my Equinox. I purchased it new in 2004. I have 13K miles and a nine page service record to go with it. Intermitent starting problems, steering column has been replaced 3 times! Clunk clunk noise in the rear. Stereo has been replaced. The driver's seat also replaced. Terrible highway gas mileage, and transmission sticks during acceleration.

I searched for some time for a vehicle. I wanted something that had some SUV capabilities, but did not need a full size SUV. The Equinox was a perfiect fit for me because it has plenty of room, provides a cofortable ride, and has the SUV aspects I wanted without the outrageous gas expense. So far, I have no complaints, I love it!

What a smooth ride and just the right size. It has the European look and feel. I see folks looking at it to check out what exactly it is. After weeks, if not months, of searching this one was the best of all we studied...so we bought it fully loaded except for the leather, at a very nice price!

The real test was when I took it on the road for a 300 mile trip, both my husband and I did not feel tired like we usually do. Normally we stop every 100 miles to stretch, but we got a late start and drove straight through. No back pain and not stiff. This SUV has a great ride, more like a luxury car than an SUV. I've had two 4- runners, a Previa, and a Windstar prior to this, and I really feel I made the right choice.

It rides nice with a quiet ride. Replaced the EGR Valve and front struts under warranty. I'm disappointed with dealership performance, but not with the vehicle. Lots of storage with rear seats folded down and forward. Same storage as a standard trunk with seats back. Lots of rear seat leg room. Good acceleration. Gets 19-22 mpg depending on how you drive it. Gets 24.5mpg on the highway, or if ridiculously babied. Traction control and anti-lock brakes work great in Michigan.

I bought this car after the first test drive. It was immediately clear that no one has the smooth drive of Chevy...even with AWD. Control, seating, cargo space, and awesome sound makes the Equinox....our Equi Rox. I loved the GM employee pricing. I liked that the dealer had all the different options on the Equinox on the lot. I hate buying new cars. It is a chore for me. So many cars with the same features. The Chevy Equinox made it easy. You gotta drive the different SUVs in its class to appreciate the Equinox ride.

We wanted a suv like this so that my wife and dogs can drive around the country comfortably. We recently completed a trip between NY and Las Vegas and it was great. Check it out.

The purchase of my Chevrolet Equinox was the best decision my wife and I made. I spent endless hours researching different SUV's in my price range. Finally, I came to this particular one, and I am very happy to make this purchase. I would recommend the Chevy Equinox to anyone who can't afford the higher priced imports. This SUV is well worth it's price.

I drive my Equinox 150 miles at least a day. I have had no problems to report. My wife and I love to get into the Equinox and driving. The vehicle does ride a little loud and has a big turn radius. But coming from a truck and a Buick station wagon the turning radius really isn't an issue. My biggest complaint is the gas tank being on the passenger side.

For the money it is quite impressive. I like the fact that they kept women in mind when designing it. Just little things, but they mean a lot. Not a sportscar, but certainly fun to drive, and quite comfortable to ride in. I'm getting 24 miles per gallon. Since it's only one month old, I obviously don't have any idea about maintenance - but as far as performance and comfort, it gets an A rating from me.

I'm very pleased with its performance. It has excellent maneuverability with quick response pickup. The electronic steering is a big plus, and a great experience for someone using it for the first time. Nice, modern, sleek body style was the first eye catcher, but the demo drive was the clincher. Went with the front wheel drive only in an effort to save on gas. Gas mileage is disappointing. Averaging about 16 to 18 mpg combined highway and city driving. Overall the car is an excellent buy for the money, with many extras standard.

This car is simply awesome. I was shopping (for a replacement of my 7 year-old Subaru Impreza) for almost 5 months. When I test drove it, I fell for it right away. Even though I've already seen my first choice which is the BMW X3, I still went to get the Equinox. It actually has more Cabin and cargo space and at least $10,000 less. The interior is great with all the conveniences. The dashboard is beautifully designed (streamlined and simply neatly designed). Its simply just comfortable. AC is powerful. Just a very comfortable, beautiful and powerful ride overall.

We really like our Equinox. The sliding and recling rear seat is great as well as the adjustable tray in the cargo area. It handles nicely, the steering is particularly nice making driving on tight corners a breeze. We have had a great deal of compliments on the outside appearance which is nice. We have had a couple of different people tell us it resembles the Lexus suv.

I have had my suv since July 2004 and there have been a few problems whith rattling in the steering they had to change the sterring column and a few recalls but we as new buyers of a new model will be the test drivers I would buy a another one in a few years when they have improved our needs. It is a fun ride and great for mothers that dont want to drive a hge tank and not a a ugly mini van. Fuel economy does however stink.

I researched and reviewed this vehicle for close to a year, reading everything I could find on it, then waited and waited until it was available to purchase. VERY disappointed with gas mileage, since that was one of the most important things to me. I have the LT FWD, and got 21.5 on a trip last summer. Get about 15 around the small town where I live. I really like everything else about the vehicle, but the mileage figures are a joke! Also, the head rests on back seat hindered vision until I figured out how to remove them.

Purchased 1SD package w/ upgrades (leather package, 17" wheels, xm radio). Smooth stable ride. Steering is nimble & responsive at different speeds & situations. Engine & transmission shift is smooth. Strong V6. Rear multi-level cargo shelf is useful for groceries, tailgate party, etc. Chose leather because it is more child resistant to spills & dirt. Right sized vehicle for 3-4 people + luggage. V6 engine is compact and uncluttered so there is room to inspect belts and hoses. Oil stick, brake fluid, & air filter are readily available. Made this jump back to an American vehicle for the dollar value size, quality, & performance.
