My Experience

Howard, 12/07/2004
2005 Chevrolet Equinox LS AWD 4dr SUV (3.4L 6cyl 5A)

I have found that this SUV is very comfortable (I am 6'4"). Plenty of head and leg room, even I can fit in the backseat without sitting sideways. Very smooth ride, the car drives itself. Radio is confusing but the sound is great. Rear view is a negative. Its like a looking through a tunnel. For safety I put in a "Lane Changer" Mirror (cost 8 bucks). I have to get use to a smaller gas tank. (Use to 22 gal vs the 16 gal). Engine responds very smoothly but you have to watch your speed when you going 60 it feels like 30. Gas pedal is very touchy. The low end model does not come with a cargo net (cost $104) bought a generic one for $6 and does just as well. Limited cargo space.

We bought our Equinox LT FWD after test driving two others. I traded my 2003 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab for it. The room is unbelievable! One really must see it and feel it to appreciate it. The gas milage and lack of room were two of the major factors in getting rid of the Nissan. We have only gone through one tankful but I must say we are averaging 21 city/highway. The ride and handling are superb.

This has a lot of everything for a smaller SUV. I owned a Ford Escape; very strong vehicle, but the Chevy Equinox has more consistent power and is a very smooth riding vehicle. Outside design is sharp, interior design is modern, very comfortable. The only two complaints I have so far are the location of the parking brake and the center console (very poor design); seems like they ran out of room and just jammed them both together. It becomes a PITA, plus the fabric of the seats are weak - seems like over time they will wear extremely fast.

Best Darn SUV Ever Owned

Have owned the new Chevy Equinox for almost a week now. Love everything about it. I have been a pickup man for quite a few years. When picking out a new pickup to replace my older one the Equinox caught my eye. I immediately asked to drive it, fell in love with the vehicle from the getgo. Love all the features about it, very roomy for a midsize SUV, comfortable to drive. The new 5-speed automatic transmission works great, very nice shifting. It has very little road noise. The 3.4 V- 6 is more than enough engine for the vehicle. Can't wait to take it on vacation next month. I know it will make the driving comfortable.

I was in need of replacing a '99 Expedition that was a PIG on fuel, and rode like a hay wagon. I wanted something smaller, comfortable, a GM product, and more economical. I selected the Equinox, after looking at the Saturn and found it to be well. BLAH. I looked at Buick and found them to be well to dressed up, and so as I am partial to Chevrolet and not too crazy about the big price on the Trailblazer, the Equinox fit my needs.

Equinox has good styling but limited visibility when driving due to back seat headrests. Has long turning ratio, which is not good. Noticable when parking. No glove box light, cannot see in at night. Cowls have more vinyl covering the interior, dash and door panels.

Love the outside look. Inside also pretty but the seats are a little hard. Problem is that I got the top of the line, LT, AWD with leather and heated seats and I feel that I got shafted with some non-amenities. Such are no light in the glove compartment. Terrible smell in car when new; they had to change anti-freeze twice. I heard others have had same problem. Heater dial impossible to reach or know whether it is on. Turn on map light in back and it automatically goes on front and blinds driver. Temperature gauge for outside air goes up 30 degrees when I am in terrible traffic. Too many problems for a nice looking, nice driving perfect size car with a sticker of almost $29,000

The next generation SUV. We love the leather, heated seats. The radio controls are easy to use on the wheel and on the stereo. Love the bass. The power/torque this vehicle has is fabulous. I have the same engine in my Venture, but this is geared so much better. Electronic steering and transmission are amazing. Cruise is so much better than on the traditional mechanical transmission. 17" wheels make this SUV look so much better than the standard 16". All of my friends love it also.

This car has handled my NJ/NYC commute quite well! I am very impressed with this car, especially all the features you get for the money. Being that I am a recent college grad, this car fits what I need for my money without making me feel completely poor. I am also into outdoor activities like rock climbing and this is a perfect fit for some crash pads and a few friends.

I purchased this vehicle because I needed a car with good gas mileage. I am a teacher and was going back to school for my masters. I went to the dealership where I had bought my other two Chevrolets. They showed me the Equinox, I drove it, and bought it. I did so because the information on the side window said it had a 16.7 gallon gas tank and it got 19 miles in the city and 25 on the highway. After having it 2 weeks I called them and said I didn't think something was right with the gas. They told me to wait and it would get better. It has not! When I talked to them after Christmas they said there was nothing that could be done. They said the stickers can sometimes be misleading!

I just got my Equinox and I couldn't be happier. This vehicle is SHARP. Kudos to the designers on this one. Mine is the AWD model with every available option. Everything inside is right where you would expect it (with the exception of the heated seat control). It's got a lot of pep and fun to drive. I don't know why edmunds says the radio controls are difficult. They couldn't be easier to use. It also has lots of cargo room and leg room for second seat passengers. The doors open up wide, to accommodate large items or handicapped passengers. For the money, it's the best small utility vehicle available today!

This car has been a great dissapointment since we bought it. It had a window leak it took the dealer 4 times to fix, gas mileage is 25% lower than sticker (only to find out there was a brake cylinder stuck when we replace the brakes at 60k, dealer never discovered it or attempted to fix poor gas mileage), the alarm dings for no apparent reason and wont shut off, even with car running or key out (again dealers in Tx and TN could/would not fix), satellite radio goes to static in and around cities, even with clear view of sky. Just to name a few of the problems we've had with no resolution from the dealers or Chevy. What a piece of junk. Should have bought the Escape.

I recently purchases an Equinox LT and I have been very satisfied. I traded in a Mercedes ML 320, so I was a bit concerned about the quality of the Equinox, but those concerns were unfounded. In a lot of ways, I like the Equinox better. It has a lower center of gravity, drives more nimbly, has better power, and gets better gas mileage than the ML320. The quality of the interior and exterior are not noticibly different. Although I've only had the Equinox about a month, I'm feeling very good about the purchase. I'd recommend it to anybody.

It's a fun vehicle to drive. It's got great handling and good acceleration. The radio has great sound and I love the fact that it tells you the songs that are playing. So far the gas mileage isn't as good as I thought it would be. I'm hoping as time goes by, it will improve. All in all I love it, and would definitely recommend it.

I am so happy I found the Chevy Equinox in my search. Great styling both inside and out! But I really love the XM satellite radio, The MP3 Player and the hands-free phone features. I get great gas mileage so far, and the machine is tight and high quality. Plus I am kind of psyched to have bought an American company product.

We just bought Equinox after having test driven almost all of SUVs in it's class. Neither of us liked the Santa Fe, I liked the Liberty - she didn't, she liked the VUE - I didn't, I liked the Escape - she didn't. We both loved the Equinox the moment we test drove it. Great price, and you get a lot of room for the size. Highly recommend you give it a try!

I am constantly stop in a parking lot and at a stop lights with people ask question about what type of car is that! I tell them equinox and they look at me like I am crazy. I wanted this car so bad that the dealer call another dealer 150 miles and had it ship to their dealership. The car rides very smooth. I highly recommend the car. I haven t been this happy about a vehicle..I would have never thought I would purchase an american car. HORRAY to Chevrolet!

Many compliments from friends and strangers. Great safety. Dad spun out on an iced over bridge and ended up sliding over an embankment past the bridge. (travelling at about 60 mph and did not see ice in time to slow down) I feel another vehicle would have rolled. No damage occured, amazingly, owing to luck and the stability of the Equinox.

Just purchased our 'Nox last march 22. It already has 4080 miles as of today. This is my first car. It's very comfortable to drive, just like driving a luxury sedan. Though I'm only averaging 18 miles per gallon, I still find it OK for a 3.4liter engine. GM should find ways to eliminate the noise, especially when running at 70miles/hour.

For a first SUV, this is not too small, not too big. New 2005 came with 1 year of free Onstar & 3 months of free XM radio. Interior is leather, very well designed and spacious. It offers lots of places to put things, but is missing a place to lock/secure any items. Not ideal for women who usually leave purses or valuables locked in a trunk.

Was reluctant to buy a first year model, but have had it four years and 34,000 miles with no problems at all - just regular service. Have the top-of-the-line model with AWD. Live in northwest PA, and it does really well in snow. Have the laser blue metallic with gray leather. Mileage got better over the years - is now about 24 mpg highway. Really lousy turning radius. Front end is noisy - everything sounds loose. Paint is thin and leather is not high quality. Price was good for a good looking AWD crossover. Great sunroof. So far, can't beat it for reliability.

The smooth shifting five speed transmission coupled with a reasonably high torque engine provide good acceleration. I have driven it in numerous snow storms and it handles and maintaints traction very well. I have been very pleased with the Equinox.

I am a sports car or "Euro-sedan" kind of guy. But, sooner or later you've got to pick up a bag of peat moss. I can't think of a better car to do it in than the Equinox. Few SUVs are exciting cars to drive, and this one is no exception. The ride is biased towards luxury - the long wheelbase really helps. The engine moves it along with little fuss and the 5-speed automatic always seems to find the right gear, making it feel stronger than it really is. The available luxury features, (sunroof, XM radio, etc.) make my commute a pleasant one. No squeaks, no rattles, no problems.

I bought my Equinox last month and have put about 1000 miles on it. Overall it has been an excellant vehicle and fits into my family's life style. Our son is a hockey player and his goalie equipment fits perfect. From style to performance the Equinox would be a SUV I would recommend. The gas mileage could be a little better. I did put in a high flow air filter and have increased my gas mileage by 3 miles to a gallon plus acceleration and performance. If you are looking for an SUV that is priced right and has the features of the bigger SUV's, Equinox is for you.

Took one out for a test drive today. Handling and performance is good. Nice quiet ride and has adequate power for on ramp merges, passing and climbing hills, at least without a load. I'm just over 6' tall and found it had plenty of room for the driver and passengers. Hard seats, did I say hard seats, and poor support. No extensions on sun visors. Narrow rear cargo space. Floor not level with seats down.

This car is simply awesome. I was shopping (for a replacement of my 7 year-old Subaru Impreza) for almost 5 months. When I test drove it, I fell for it right away. Even though I've already seen my first choice which is the BMW X3, I still went to get the Equinox. It actually has more Cabin and cargo space and at least $10,000 less. The interior is great with all the conveniences. The dashboard is beautifully designed (streamlined and simply neatly designed). Its simply just comfortable. AC is powerful. Just a very comfortable, beautiful and powerful ride overall.

It handles nicely, the steering is particularly nice making driving on tight corners a breeze. We have had a great deal of compliments on the outside appearance which is nice. We have had a couple of different people tell us it resembles the Lexus suv.

I have had my suv since July 2004 and there have been a few problems whith rattling in the steering they had to change the sterring column and a few recalls but we as new buyers of a new model will be the test drivers I would buy a another one in a few years when they have improved our needs. It is a fun ride and great for mothers that dont want to drive a hge tank and not a a ugly mini van. Fuel economy does however stink.
