Used 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Sedan Consumer Reviews
Fine for basic transportation
I purchased a 2010 LT2 back in Nov 2009. Tons of problems within the first couple of years and the dealership I purchased it from refused to honor the warranty. Here's a few issues I encountered during my ownership: 1. The A/C didn't work the first time I tried it. Had to take to a second dealership for them to fix it. 2. Dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree about a year later. Engine almost kept stalling while waiting at lights. Turned out to be some loose wiring. 3. Screw popped out of the steering column which helped to shut the turn signal off when straightening the wheel. 4. Power steering recall. 5. Ignition switch recall. 6. Poor handling. 7. Bad visibility. 8. Virtually no room in the back seats for adults. 9. Rock hard seats with little support. 10. Cheap plastic everywhere. 11. Poor build quality. 12. Car makes a weird creaking sound after a couple of minutes of being parked. The list goes on. This car is not one to buy if you can avoid it.

Problem under 300 miles
Bought this car Brand new off the lot. 275 miles later the stereo volume control wouldn't work. buttons wouldn't work. They replaced with a new one, Parts guy stated there were several ordered because of this problem. Gas Mileage isn't as great as they tell you. Might be because its still breaking in, not sure. City I am getting around 19-21 MPG. I test drove the same model before I got this one ( it had 500 miles on it ) the A/C was not working.
Love it
Bought my Cobalt 3 months ago and love it so far. I'm averaging an incredible 32.5 mpg on my 92 mile/day commute. Not the most comfortable inside but I'm 6'3 and 220 lbs so any car would be uncomfortable. Better mpg and horsepower than Corolla/Civic etc so if you take it for what it is there's no better car in it's class. Highly recommended for a commuter
Happy safe owner, reliable little car!
So the rundown on my Cobalt: It is a 2010 that I bought at the end of 2011 with 32,000 miles on it (it had previously been a company car for an electric company so it had been driven a lot before it came to me.) It now has just over 110,000 miles on it. I drive it to and from work on the highway and we have taken several long trips and even hauled all of our camping gear in its spacious trunk. I regularly haul big bags of soil or mulch or stone in the trunk and back seat as I am an avid gardener in my spare time, and with the back seats folded down you can fit lumber, small trees, and we even got a 48" tv home in it! Usually I keep a Saris Bones bike rack on the trunk, it supports it well. The interior is spacious enough, you may run into issues if the people in the front and back are both very long legged (like 6'5") but that's it and headroom is good. We have a child now and her car seat attaches well in the middle of the back seat, with it out I can get 3 adults in the back if they are very close friends. Usually these days it is just me in the car for my commute but it has been a reliable family car for years when we had only one vehicle for our house. The dash and controls are laid out nicely and the brushed metal look accenting is cute, I have the two tone interior that is black and grey- the doors are a bit plain because they are all one color but other than that it is fine. The plastic materials do feel cheaper than my '99 Dodge Neon interior did, it semed to be a bit more padded everywhere. It has enough get up and go, nice handling, quiet ride. For the first few years I didn't have any issues at all with my Cobalt, regular fluid changes, brakes, tires, and it was good to go. I have replaced the battery once about 7 years ago. About four or so years ago the car needed a wiring harness for the transmission, squirrels had apparently chewed through the wiring (they get into everything here!) and the car was shifting abnormally because of the wires rubbing. Then I believe it was a year and a half or two years ago I needed to replace the fuel line because it had rusted through and was leaking, the shop replaced it with a nylon one so I won't have to worry in the future. This year I replaced the wheel bearings, which had normal wear and tear and had gotten noisy. I did it the same time I had the spark plugs changed out and the fluids checked. Every single 'major' repair has cost me less than $250, so for a car to cost less than a grand in repairs over the course of owning it a decade I would say is fantastic!!! I also wash the salt off and keep it waxed so there is not a speck of rust on the body. Over the years it has had I think 3 recalls but my car didn't have any problems with the affected parts, the dealer took care of everything quickly anyway. So earlier this week I was in an accident, a Ford F150 hit me on the expressway as he merged into my lane without looking. The big truck had of course minimal damage but my little car was wrecked. My Cobalt kept me safe, however, I was uninjured! It got some damage to the front passenger fender, side of the bumper, headlight, and a smashed wheel. I was so upset, last month I had just gotten new Michelin Defender tires (not cheap!) and a wheel alignment! So my poor car is now in the shop, it needs body work and tie rods and a control arm and other stuff. The other guy's insurance is paying for it, so I don't mind but I'm just upset that it happened in the first place. But it kept me safe and will keep on going, I hope to have it another 10 years!

Love this vehicle
So far, owning this vehicle has not only saved me money on gas, but has allowed me to take my family more places. Even though some may say that the interior is small, I feel that the space is great for the vehicle. The performance for the 2.2 L engine is great, I know no power but you don't buy a car like this for performance. I from Indiana to Ohio which is about 500 miles round trip and it is a really comfortable drive. All in all I would definitely recommend the Cobalt to anyone that is looking for a reliable vehicle and likes to travel alot without being hurt by gas prices. I put $20 in gas and by the time I filled up to come home I only put $12 to top off. Awesome car!
