Shifting from 1st to 2nd, the clutch is a bit sticky. Hard braking seems to pull the car left a bit.
Good
I drive this vehicle 300 miles every weekend and another 200 miles during the week. It is a very reliable car, and the fuel economy is great. It handles suprisingly well for its size, and winter driving is not much of a problem. The interior is of decent design, but I believe it could be cleaned up some. Arm rests would be nice.

Wonderful College Car
I absolutely love my car. It is extremely economical. The only downfall is wind noise inside.
Good, but falling apart
This car is great on gas, and the engine is running very solid. The only problems I have experienced was that the radio decided not to work after 20,000 miles, which really displeases me about this car. It is the little things I can tell why this car is priced as is, you get what you pay for. I am not bashing the car...it is a reliable car, but the manufacturer could have put in a little more attention to detail.
AVEO Review
We have had our Aveo for three months and have no complaints about the car. It replaced a small pickup we used around town and is mainly used for shopping and local trips. The space behind the rear seats is great for groceries and other small items. I have also used it to carry heavy items up to 800 pounds with no significant change in handling characteristics. The seating is comfortable and the headroom and visibility equivalent to a much larger vehicle. I am impressed by the quality in the car for the price I paid for it. All in all, a real bargain.
Electrical Problems or LEMON?
Leased 3 wks ago. Mileage aprx 400km/city. Overall great but worried about a poss. electric prob. 4 days after I got it battery died & most info I got was that they adjusted loose connection. It hasn't died a 2nd time: YET.Last few days every time I start it the digital clock has lost time: this tells me there is a prob: this is what happened right before the battery went last time. Prob seems intermittent, but I'm hoping it dies again before my first 30 days are up so I can either break my lease or get a different vehicle. Maybe I got unlucky with a lemon, & it if werent for the electrical prob I would give it an excellent rating on perform & design.
The best overall small car out there
The Aveo has been a terrifc car so far. I bought it brand new and in the past year it has not had one single problem. GM's rebates and GMAC's low interest finance rates made the car an overall bargain. Compared to the Scion XA and Hyundai Accent, the Aveo felt roomier, more stylish, had more thoughful touches and in the case of the Accent, better built. Chevy deserves credit for marketing this European-style hatch in America, where five-door hatches have been unpopular and dismissed as cheap throw-away cars. For such a tiny vehicle, the room is incredible. Theres plenty of headroom and footroom in the front, although its a bit tight in the back, but thats to be expected. A terrific car
Geart little car
I have had the vech about a month now and it is great would tell anyone who asked me about it and was interested in a small car to look at it
17K Miles & 15 months. I love this car!
I've put over 17,000 miles on my 2004 Aveo so far. As others have mentioned it is extremely peppy and has a surprising amount of interior room. I'm currently driving my Aveo 120+ miles per day including interstate, secondary roads, and city driving. And I'm averaging greater than 31 mpg. I love the small turing radius and the extremely responsive steering. I've owned several new cars in my lifetime and this is the first one that I've not had any problems with after prolonged ownership and driving. The quality has been excellent and I really don't know how you could expect more from a $12,000 dollar vehicle.
Aveo LS
Love this car. It is a low end vehicle but it does have power everything. Good gas milage and 5 star frontal impact rating. No cruise control avilible???? Wonder why. Good design and versatility, great starter car.
excellent runabout
We bought car new. No problems in 76000. this is a much better car than it's reputation maybe problems are due to improper or lack of maintenance. .
Best little car on the market
The only thing I did was I took off the kumo tires and put on Bridgestone Turunza LST. Made all the difference in the world rides great handles GREAT IN WET ROAD CONDITIONS. And very peppy 1.6 duel ohc 16 valve engine. A very quite cabin. I love it.
Perfect car for couple or 3 people
Most of the car is fine. Generally pleased with the car. It rides good. Holds the road well. Carpet/ seat coverings look cheap but wearing o.k. Had to replace the back seat hinge where it folds to be flat. Routine wiper/ hubcap/heat/air/cond/.. All done with a smile at routine check ups. Recommend this car for a good cheap ride. All of grandkids love it...
I bought a lemon too
I bought it at 1yr old and 7000 miles. First the engine light goes on if gas cap not tight. Windshield wiper bolt stripped so I only had 1 wiper working. After 3 years and 30000, break lights do not work. All bulbs blew at once. It's an electrical problem. Dealership thought they fixed it. 1 week later same problem all bulbs blew. After 40,000 miles shocks are worn, car getting bouncy. The last straw, The car was hit and totaled. Thank goodness I was hit on passenger side, because if I had been on the passenger side I would be a goner. The window exploded, glass everywhere, I was cut. thank goodness for seatbelts. All cars should have side air bags standard.
Great Economy Car
I have already put 450 miles on this in 5 days time. The car handles great, gets great gas mileage without even being broke in yet, large enough to accomodate a 6'2" man with more room to push the seat back, and enough power to get out of its own way. I really hope that they come out with some after- market support. I mainly use this car for work, but seem to like it more for when the family and I need to make short trips aroung town. It has a great European car feel to it. If you just need a basic car that can be lots of fun, this would be a great choice.
2004 Chev Aveo
We bought the car for our daughter. It is a great little car and she loves it.
I love my Kor-Talian Aveo
I absolutely love my half Korean half Italian Aveo!! It drives and handles with such confidence. No cases of leg cramps or claustrophobia in this baby. You get so many extras with this car for the price, you cant beat it!!! You'll just have to check it out!
Wouldn't recommend one to anyone
Timing belt broke 45,000 took out all but one valve. Coil pack went out 55,000. Right rear wheel bearing went out 59,000. Catalytic converter went out 60,000. Alarm system goes off on its own 63,000. Right rear wheel bearing went out second time disintegrating locking up rear wheel, no warning. 110,000 windshield leak above steering wheel, only when setting. Hood release cable snapped 112,000. Rear hatch latch stopped working 113,000. Gas mileage never better then 32mpg
low miles engine blow
No Major problems with this car till now. Just driving along and timing belt broke and blew engine. Quotes from 2800.00 to 3500.00 that's almost half the sticker price which 7750.00. I just paid the thing off not real happy. The more I read about this money pit the more I think I should just get another car
Surprisingly solid so far
Zippy, sleek, excellent no-frills get from point A to point B kind of car. It's a lot of fun to drive, for sure!
2004 Aveo (Automatic Hatchback) Review
I waited one month before writing this review to allow time to get a better perspective of my new 2004 Aveo, an automatic transmission, hatchback style. I find the size of the vehicle as desired, small on the outside, quite roomy (including rear seat leg room) on the inside. With the 60/40 split and "flip and fold" feature of the back seat, the car has a nice variety of storage options. My early estimate of fuel efficiency in generally moderate distance, rural, and somewhat hilly travel is about 32 mpg. The car is a fun vehicle for the "gentle" driver.
Love It!!!!!!!!
I love it and its a great little family car we have on child and it is perfect for us.
aveo is the best car I've had
The Aveo was my first brand new car I'm very impressed with the gas mileage I've never seen a car that they say has a certain amount city/hwy and it be true
2004 chevy aveo
I have had this car for only 2 weeks and have 120 miles on it, but I fully enjoy it. I've owned plenty of cars to compare it to and I tell you, this car is a great city car and fun to drive. It takes corners tightly and is very roomy inside with plenty of window area and head and leg room. I have an automatic, so the take off is a little sluggish, but I didn't buy it expecting nor caring about burning rubber from the stop light. I shopped economy cars and feel I got the best one made so far for the price.
suprised car
comfort, coazy and very solid car but not to sport driving.
My Ladybug
Cute car, great handling, fun to drive! Super price - mine is hatchback, red color which reminds me of a ladybug. Haven't had it long (one week)but am planning on a 600 mile trip soon so I will reevaluate how it performs after that. There is quite a bit of plastic in the interior but that's part of the cheaper price of the car-it is pleasing to the eye. Can't evaluate gas economy since I haven't filled it up yet.
Fun little car!
Great pickup for a little vehicle, zippy little car!
First and Last Chevy
First off, the car driven before this was an SL1 Saturn which they stopped making, so I'm comparing it with this. The Aveo is nothing more than a station wagon too short to be of use. It's uncomfortable, noisy, and feels like it's going to tip over around every turn. It has no lumbar suoort and to add to the discomfort you can't adjust the angle of the steering wheel. The insturments are very hard to see the way they have then at the bottom of what looks like cup holders. The actual cupholders are unsafe in that you have to move your beverage to use the ashtray while you drive. It's perhaps the most unsafe car on the road. You can't even adjust the delay on the intermittent wipers.
A delight to drive
This is a delightful car to drive. For a small four cylinder it has excellent exceleration(pulling hills or merging into traffic) on the highway. The gas mileage is also a big plus. I got 30mpg in the city and 38mpg on the highway. And that is with a automatic transmission. The seats are comfortable and there is ample room for four passengers. The hatchback has a small storage space in the rear, but if you need more room the rear seats fold down. The only thing that I did not like was the cup holder in the front dash. When you use it, any thing you have in it blocks access to the ac/heater controls. But for less than 14K this car is excellent.
Honest Value over Status
This would be a great first car, second car, or utility vehicle. Value, versatility and more than a little verve. Don't let the price tag fool you.
Super New Chevy
Impressive. Very solid. Performance is impressive as it breaks in.. Quick...reminds me of my 1970 BMW2002, performs that well, handles superb, ride excellent, impressive for the price.,,,Excellent, Superb build quality,,tight, nicve.ready for my first oil change..
better than I expected
handles great, zippy, cute, great visibility, feels like a much larger car.
great car
Great car! I've had my Aveo for a little over a month, and it replaced a 12 year old Lumina I had. It's great, in city and on the highway. Good mileage. Only problem I have is my keyless remote entry broke (ironically on the day I mailed my first payment), so have to go to dealership. Bought it because moving and 60/40 split seats will be great!
Commuter? This is your Car!
A solid good looking "Puddle jumper". I commute 105 Km.(65 mi.) per day. Have read complaiants about it being slow and unable to keep up on the highway. Not true! Does well on our expressways. A sustained 120KPH.(75 MPH) is no problem, and I still have pedal left. I have had other "small cars"...no competition. The load capacity with seats in HB forward is impressive. Passenger room in the rear is amazing. I love GM products, and although it is an import, it still carries the Chevy "Bow Tie", and merits the GM service. Good enough for me, and the gas mileage at today's prices...great!
Aveo Fan
I've had the Aveo for about a month now. I have owned 2 Ford Festivas and 1 Ford Aspire in my lifetime. The Aveo is by far the best car I have seen in this market. The overall design is great and the engine pickup is excellent(the Toyota Echo that I test drove was a dog). Steering and braking are very responsive. Call me crazy, but I traded in my PT Cruiser for this vehicle and I don't regret the decision one bit...I still have a sharp looking car, better gas milage and a lower car payment.
things wrong
within the first month the heater motor went out, then would not heat, back in the shop again. then 2 months straight of taking it back in to have the tires balanced. first 4 months i owned this car, it was in the shop once a month. now it is back in again to have a marker light replaced when a clip broke (car not being hit or anything.) also to have the back seat fixed. it was put down and up, when it was put back down, it came out of alignment and would not latch on one side. new seat bracket having to be ordered.
Very Thrilled
I have never driven a car that has been so fun to drive as the Aveo. I studied up on it to look for the 'problem' areas before buying. I found them to not be a problem. The engine is a little loud (what the tester's said) for a new car, but is still competitive with all others. Either way, my sound system covers all of that up. I've also never driven something so manueverable as this. It looks tiny from the outside, but inside it fits four large people comfortably. It's incredible and an awesome buy.
i am happy so far
i only have about 900 miles so far, however i am happy with the performance, ride and gas millage.this car was purchased to save fuel,so far it is doing the job.i parked a 5.6L binz for this. at first i felt that i would be dissappointed with performance, not so,i hope the service and duriability will be as positive.because my past experiance with chevy service was extremely disapointing, but that was in 1970, i quit buying chevy after that time until now.so''heres hopeing...
Aveo
I have only had the car for one and a half years and have had to have it in the shop twice. Luckily I bought the extended warranty because the timing belt broke a couple of days ago and now I need a new moter.
Dissapointed Chevy Fan
Fuel Economy significantly lower than advertised. Air conditioning performance declines every season, dealer has noted noise but did not fix. Wore out tires prematurely. Has suspension clunks in front and rear which dealer has noted but never fixed. Now it has a grinding in the front which comes and goes but "could not be reproduced by dealer. Our new car is now more disappointing to drive than the 96 we sold when we bought the Aveo. I have always been a supporter and fan of Chevy. The Aveo and Doug Chevy have changed that. I will never buy a new Chevy again.
2004 Aveo
I bought my little car about 10 months ago. It had 26,000 miles on it. I have 36,000 on it now. My only complaint is the gas mileage. I expected better. It is getting 30 to 33 mpg. It seems sturdy and I enjoy driving it. I have no complaint with the pep. The interior room is excellent and the back seat has more room than my Toyota RAV. There does seem to be a bad blind spot at the front side windshield, and to the rear. I have learned to compensate.
great little car
So far this vech is a great little ride
CRUNCH
I bought a brand new 2004 Aveo in 7/2005 off the dealer lot. Several months later I started hearing popping and creaking in the front suspension area, and it got worse in the months to come. Finally took it in after a year of driving. Here is what happened. Dealer decided it must be the bushings and they replaced them, bad move bushings don't wear out in only months. Anyways, the fix didn't do very much. Turned it back in and they checked their TSB list that indicated to replace control arms. This was on their work order and receipt they gave me. For some reason they Instead decided to only torque control arms. Bad move. Still didnt fix it. Fix number 3 is in process, stay tuned
Surprisingly solid so far!
I recently purchased the Aveo and find it to be amazingly solid for an economy car! The ride is smooth on the street and the highway, and I feel safe in it. The Aveo is superior to the Kia Rio when it comes to its design, both inside and out. Kia may offer a longer warranty, but you won't feel like you're driving a reliable car at all. It's a zippy, sporty car and if the Honda Civic had a little sister, the Aveo would be it.
forget echo- buy this
old car broke.rented toyota echo for 1 month. read my review. one aveo test drive and i was sold. i'm at 6k miles and the only 2 problems i've encountered are during winter-a stiff rear hatch seal and ice damming up inside the fuel filler hatch. both very minor design problems. 30mpg solid at chicago tollway speeds. sunglass holder hell-saftey glass holder. how many of us have to wear them? dealer threw in mp3. station wagon no charge.real useable storage. my 400lb girlfriend even fits in it comfortably. hauls me and dive buddy and all our scuba gear with the rear seat down.nice ride quality.
Going strong...
12 000 miles. No problem at all! Fuel economy is rising...even in winter (very cold in Canada). Very cheap car (price) and lot of quality for it. Better handling, seats, interior and driving than my Toy Tercel 97 (some problems with this one...strange for a toyota) Lots of accessories from the dealer...go see it! mine is a Suzuki Swift+S... same thing in Canada (AVEO=SWIFT+)
2004 Chevy Aveo LS Hatchback
really fun car to drive. interior controls are layed out exceptionally well. very easy to see out of. would make a great car for a young driver.
My review
Although i bought it as a second car to get me around town i have noticed a wobbley ride while on the interstate. Other than that its a all around decent car that handles ok in any road condition.
Suprisingly Solid and Roomy
We just purchased this car when my grandma couldn't drive it anymore. It has 12,000 miles on it, and is in like new condition. Having driven only SUV's for a while, I am blown away at how well this little car handles and how much cab space there is for people. Our 2 teens and a 7 year old fit comfortably in back (as comfortable as our last SUV). Our first trip was 750 miles with 4 people (weighing 600 lbs. total) and packed to the hilt with our stuff. We got 34 mpg on the highway. Acceleration is good on the interstate, even on hills. I just took a 16 hour trip in a Toyota Matrix that didn't do so well and didn't handle as good. I'm only getting 22-26 mpg in the city, but I drive fast.
Toy car
This car is awful, timing belt snapped at 4500 miles, replaced engine and never worked the same again. Multiple problems in the design yet GM still doesn't do anything about it. Don't be fooled, this is NOT an American-made car. It's a Daewoo Lanos in a Suzuki designed body. I cringe every time I see one on the road now, GM should scrap it as it is giving them a terrible reputation.
