Overview
If you feel like the current crop of luxury EVs lack a little personality, you might want to begin your shopping journey with the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. This midsize SUV is the first fully electric car from Cadillac, and it dazzles with a high-tech interior and exterior design, alongside practical attributes like a long-range battery pack and General Motors' hands-free Super Cruise system. It was introduced just last year in limited configurations, but the lineup explodes from one trim to seven in 2024.

Edmunds spotlight: The Lyriq's distinctive style
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but whether you love it or hate it, there's no doubt that the Lyriq's styling makes an impression. Unlike the EVs that try to fly under the radar with a reserved design (or, in the Model Y's case, are so ubiquitous that your eyes glide right off the sheetmetal), you won't lose the Lyriq in the Disneyland parking lot. An intricately detailed front lighting signature is complemented by the Lyriq's tall station-wagon profile. The high waistline and chopped roof give it a custom car look, and the wraparound taillights that start at the rear pillar wouldn't look out of place on a concept. Simply put, the Lyriq is a showstopper.
Competitors to consider
We also recommend checking out the Genesis GV60, which is one of the Lyriq's closest rivals in terms of size and price. It's comfortable and quick — especially if you opt for the Performance version — but its maximum range isn't particularly impressive. You could also save some cash with the Model Y or go upmarket with the BMW iX or Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.

Rated for you by America's best test team.Performance
7.5/10
How does the LYRIQ drive? The Lyriq is not a performance-oriented EV. Its acceleration doesn't give you that gut punch from the instant torque delivery that we've become used to. We tested a dual-motor all-wheel-drive Lyriq and it sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. That's not slow but for a luxury electric SUV that's near the bottom of the class.
Another place where its comfort-first mission shows up is in the way it handles. Drive with some enthusiasm around a turn and the composure you typically expect from EVs (all of which feature the bulk of their mass low down in the chassis) is missing. Combine that with slow steering and not-so-grippy tires and it's clear the Lyriq is more about being tidy on the dead-ahead than it is in the twisties.
Braking was similarly nonchalant. In our emergency brake testing, it needed more distance to stop from 60 mph than an equivalent BMW iX and was less stable in a straight line.

Comfort
8/10
How comfortable is the LYRIQ? Comfort is where the Lyriq excels. On long stretches of highway or on city streets, the Lyriq's comfort bias pays major dividends. Its suspension soaks up major road imperfections well, though smaller bumps can result in a little bit of juddering in the cabin. Most of the time, the Lyriq's ride is near the top of its class. It's impressively quiet inside too.
The Lyriq's climate system was the main disappointment here. The fans never felt strong enough in our testing, and when we set the system for lower temps we weren't always satisfied with how cold the cabin got (or rather, didn't get). Not only that, but the thin slots Cadillac uses for air vents here make guiding air to your face trickier than it should be.

Interior
7.5/10
How’s the interior? The Lyriq's interior is a highlight with only a few weak points. The view out of the front is clear and makes the car easy to place on the road. Getting in and out of the interior is a cinch thanks to well-placed seats and wide door openings. Thanks to the EV architecture, the entire floor is flat and the seats can be mounted low, meaning there is plenty of head- and legroom for both front and rear passengers.
There are things we didn't like about the interior. The center console of our test vehicle squeaked if we pressed down too hard on any part of it, and the driver's seat lacked just enough adjustment to make finding a comfortable position a little too difficult. Another knock is the view out of the back. Though we're thankful for blind-spot warning, rearward visibility could be a touch better, and small window openings make getting a clear picture of what's behind a touch too difficult.
Another element of the Lyriq worth noting is that there is a sort of learning curve when it comes to the interior. There are three screens, and they all have different functions and display different info. The screen on the far left also occasionally mirrors what's in the center stack (like the trip information, for example). So we recommend prospective buyers sit in one at a dealership and familiarize themselves with the Lyriq before they make a purchase.

Technology
9/10
How’s the tech? The tech in the Lyriq is likely its strongest area. It features all of the benefits of having Google built right in — which gives fantastic voice recognition and the best native maps solution in the business — as well as the added benefit of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. It all works seamlessly, and while we aren't in love with the design of the Lyriq's user interface, that's a small gripe in the face of a vast amount of easy-to-use and helpful tech.
Even smaller things have been considered. There's a small fan that blows cold air onto your phone in the wireless charger to keep it cool, the USB-C ports are in a logical place, and the configurable screens give pertinent information and are easy to navigate and understand.
Lastly, we were able to test the Super Cruise system. Super Cruise works on premapped highways and allows you to take your hands off the wheel when conditions allow. It works well in most conditions, and we've found it's most helpful in congested traffic to help let you relax a little.

Storage
8/10
How’s the storage? The Lyriq will have enough cargo space for most families. It has 28 feet of cubic space to work with behind the second row, and while it's not as large as the BMW iX or Tesla Model X, it is on par with the Audi Q8 E-tron. Fold the seats down and you have up to 60 cubic feet of free air to use for larger items.
In-cabin storage is solid too. There is a medium-size center armrest bin and an average-size glovebox. There is also a bonus cubby that slides out from the front dash, plus a small space right in between the passenger and driver that's covered in a contrast-colored leather and is perfect for a small handbag. Fitting a car seat should be easy too. There's plenty of room in the back for larger seats and wide-opening doors and Isofix points mean installation should be a simple affair.

Range and Efficiency
7.5/10
How are the range and efficiency? In our independent Edmunds EV Range Test, our dual-motor Lyriq traveled 319 miles on a charge, outperforming its 307-mile EPA estimate. In mixed city/highway driving, you can certainly expect to match or beat the EPA. We measured consumption at 37.6 kWh of electricity used for every 100 miles driven, slightly besting the EPA estimate of 38 kWh/100 miles.
Value
8/10
Is the LYRIQ a good value? Overall build quality in the Lyriq is impressive. We found a few squeaks and rattles here and there, but major touchpoints all feel solid. We also like how well priced the Lyriq is. The vehicle we tested came with a plethora of optional equipment and was a top-spec Luxury 3 model. Even fully loaded, our Lyriq was considerably less expensive than the base price of a BMW iX. The Lyriq comes with a warranty that's on par with other EVs in its class. Cadillac offers four years/50,000 miles of coverage for the basics and drivetrain, and the EV battery warranty extends to eight years/100,000 miles.
Wildcard
8/10
The Lyriq's styling manages to turn heads. It's an attractive design and is immediately distinguishable as something new from Cadillac. Not only is it good-looking, but it also manages to be understated without being boring. It isn't the most fun to drive, but it accomplishes its mission of being a quiet, comfortable, tech-forward EV.
Which LYRIQ does Edmunds recommend?
The Lyriq's Luxury 2 and Sport 2 trim levels provide loads of value. Either is a reasonable price bump from the Luxury 1 or Sport 1, and it gets you massaging and cooled front seats, a primo sound system and other upgrades. We think it's well worth the extra spend.

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ Tech 4dr SUV (electric DD)
We purchased our vehicle two and a half weeks ago, and it has spent one of those weeks in service at Cadillac with no end date as to when our issues will be resolved.
Similar to a previous reviewer, within 1,000 miles our driver assist system stopped working entirely. The alerts for this failure were constant, unable to be dismissed, and extremely distracting. Our trunk stopped opening … electronically. The interior wireless charger does not work. The door handles are not closing flush with the vehicle. We are unable to charge on any charger but a DC fast charger, all other charging attempts fail within minutes. Our infotainment settings have lines of blank or unusable options (for example, seven different lines that say "Sound" in the sound settings). Our infotainment screen becomes so hot while we're driving we can't touch it, and I'm fairly certain it's a fire risk. It feels like GM was so anxious to get these off the production line they started throwing them together, which does not make me feel great about putting my family in this vehicle.
Our sole highlights are the range, the look of the vehicle and the space within the car itself. It's a shame nothing else works as expected.
My 2024 Lyriq Turns Into An Expensive 2024 Brick
1 out of 5 stars2024 Lyriq Nightmare Guy, 09/30/2023
2024 Cadillac LYRIQ Luxury 2 4dr SUV (electric DD)
Hello. I bought a 2024 Lyriq on July 29, 2023. It has only about 1,048 miles on it, most of it from driving back & forth to the dealer, located about 100 miles away from me. It has also been towed twice to this same Cadillac dealership.
The vehicle can be ina fully charged state, but quite often a "12v battery fault" alert pops up when attempting to turn it on, rendering the vehicle … totally immovable. (The two battery systems are separate.) Then the vehicle will turn itself on and off; it may or may not lock its doors; and there is no easy way to make that cycle stop. Eventually the 12v battery is depleted and the 2024 Lyriq becomes a very expensive brick. Ultimately, the vehicle locks itself, game over. Happened to me now again and again, which is why I haven't been able to drive it any distance: what if this happens to me when driving away?
My new vehicle is now, once again, 100 miles to my North, back to the dealership. (It bricked on me again Wednesday morning; "fast service" to Cadillac meant them not sending me any help until layer the next day.) Despite me signing every possible coverage Cadillac had available, they have yet to honor either the Cadillac Roadside Assistance contract we signed, or the loaner car deal we entered into, either. Oh, and when they towed my AWD electric vehicle yesterday, they did it by dragging the front end while the vehicle was still stuck in park. A big no no, which even the tow-truck driver stated yesterday.
My question is: have any other 2024 Lyriq owners or other folks out there heard about this problem of a "12v battery fault" popping up, leaving the vehicle immovable? Thank you.

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ Luxury 2 4dr SUV (electric DD)
The car was quite nice to sit in and drive for the first two weeks, I can’t say anything else nice about it. I went out to the garage and the car was dead. Had it towed to the Myrtle Beach dealership and they can’t fix it (something about the battery). While everyone was nice that I spoke with, nobody can answer my questions as to what precisely the problem is nor can the answer as to … when it will be fixed. I have asked for my money back or a new car. Both GM and the dealership find that amusing. It has been sitting at the dealership for over two weeks.
I am disappointed and feel as though I have been defrauded. GM is just not “there” where this technology is concerned and they knowingly sold a car that doesn’t work.
GM told me (on line) that someone named “Chris” (EV Concierge) would call me last week and has not done so.
They have my money and as far as I know, don’t care about their product.

Cadillac LYRIQ vs. Tesla Model Y
The Tesla Model Y wins on value, as it's both significantly quicker and less expensive than the Lyriq. But the Lyriq's cabin is a more inviting place to live, with materials that are upscale and more in line with luxury competitors. We also like the Cadillac's breadth of customization and standout styling.
Cadillac LYRIQ vs. Genesis GV60
The Genesis GV60 has a sporty yet comfortable ride, a long warranty and ultra high-speed charging capabilities. Unfortunately for the GV60, its smaller battery pack means it can't travel nearly as far as the Lyriq (at most, you'll get 248 miles on a charge), and its cargo area isn't as roomy as the Lyriq's.
Cadillac LYRIQ vs. Lexus RZ 450e
The Lexus RZ 450e might tempt you with its sharp design, inside and out. It also has a comfortable ride that you'd expect of an SUV with a Lexus badge. But its modest power output might turn off shoppers looking to enjoy the performance benefits of an EV, and range is woefully uncompetitive.
