Excellent pre-owned value with pace and grace
iDrive entertainment system is the best when it comes to UI. This generation is perfect since it has the right level of digital and analog details. The interior and exterior styling is understated and the reason you get the X5 is for the engine! The V8 is so silky smooth. The car is tuned more for comfort than sport, but if you get the M-Sport suspension as I did the handling is greatly improved. If you can find one with the Dynamic Handling Package, it takes handling to another level, but due to how complicated it is, the long term cost of maintaining it could be pretty high. Overall, the X5 is a great combination of comfort, space and handling. So far, it's been very reliable, although as some have pointed out it does have body squeaks from plastic rubbing together in some places. However, it is really minor in an otherwise rock-solid SUV.

Fast, solid, and hungry
After having a 3 and then a 5 series, this car was my first foray into SUV land since growing up driving a Chevy Suburban. This car is solid and is very good looking...I get compliments all the time on the appearance. It just feels solid driving as well, but the 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 doesn't make it feel heavy or sluggish at all. But the cost to that is a gas station visit is more frequent--which after owning a 535i took some getting used to. But every time I start it and hear the low V8 grumble it puts a smile on my face.

Rock Solid Car
I’ve owned dozens of cars, foreign and domestic, and the X5 tops my list in every respect. Most importantly, this car delivers a sense of confidence, in terms of performance, connection with the road, and overall safety. I'm proud to drive and own this car.
Wish I could return
This is definitely the worst car I've ever purchased. I paid $85k for my 2018 BMW X5. I've had numerous issues since I purchased it. It was not aligned from the factory and I had to take it in almost immediately to have an alignment done. The seatbelts were really noisy in the front seats. I had them replaced and they are a bit better now, but it's ridiculous to have this issue on such an expensive car. The electronics leave a lot to be desired. Sometimes it will automatically switch driver profiles. Sometimes it won't. There doesn't seem to be any reason why. Even the so-called "geniuses" at the dealer didn't know why. At around 8,000 miles, several interior panels started rattling and making noise. The seat motor in the passenger seat went out and that had to be replaced. I'm so done with this car and BMW. It's my first and definitely my last. There are some nice things about the car, but it's pretty hard for me to enjoy them when there are so many other things wrong with it.

Solid Performer
I got a CPO X5 50i with M Sport package. Has virtually every option and runs perfectly. Had about 27K on it when I got it, but my mechanic says it was like new. I have had it for 2 years now and it has 47K miles on it. Still runs perfectly with zero issues. A few more rock hits on the paint than I like, but that is what touchup paint is for. All in all, still one great ride I intend to keep for more years to come.

AWESOME vehicle, a true blast to drive and own
super power and handling, everything you want in an SUV with the handling and power if a sports car. Quality is everywhere, buy, drive and smile.... Two negatives after owning this for awhile now, otherwise all good: 1. I am 6'2", 230 lbs. When I get out of the drivers seat, the side panel with seat controls bends away from the seat, has not impacted anything yet but it needs to be stronger in order to last as long as the rest of the vehicle. 2. Learn to use your cruise control because you WILL speed constantly in this vehicle. I find its impossible to gauge how fast we are going due to the M suspension, quiet ride and responsiveness of the drive train. Even with a heads up display this monster just wants to go go go, and you can be doing way over a city speed limit while thinking you are fine. This is a superior SAV / SUV in all respects and offers exceptional value in return for its premium price

100K and Still Happy
I'm a road warrior and have driven this 2018 over 116K miles with no serious problems. I still smile when I start the engine. The Door locks and windshield wippers have been the only frustrations. The drivers door door lock control was replaced withing the first month after purchase...it did not fix the problem. The good news is that I can live with the problem...it does not always lock or unlock but after many tries I finally win the battle. The windshield wiper software is another issue. To put it bluntly I hate the software. You have no control over the wipers as the software over rides your input and it is most frustrating. Other than these two issues I am still in love with my X5. I had two Toyota Highlanders prior to the X5 and the gas mileage was worse on the Highlanders. I have a very heavy foot but on the road I get about 22 to 24 mpg. The Highlanders were around 20 mpg and the transmissions sucked as did the infotainment system. The X5 runs circles around the Highlanders. I love my interior and don't know why one of the reviews refered to Plastic Parts, I don't have any. Well maybe the kick plates below the console, etc. I have two nephews that both reach above 6'3 inches and they have never complained about too little leg room in the back seat. I plan on driving this one into the ground.

Five years of ownership
Owning Japanese brands all my life, Wanted to buy a Lexus RX (luxurious, comfortable but slightly underpowered car with confusing technology), but finally decided on BMW X5 - different class of vehicle, and with only 5K difference in price, it was a no brainer. Had some concerns based on a common understanding that BMW is less reliable brand, but a fact that it is last production year gave me some peace of mind. To my surprise, this is a most reliable car I ever owned. Zero issues in 5 years - no leaks, no oxygen sensor problems, no rear differential issues, no electrical issues, no exhaust problems - all of the above that I experienced with Toyota and Acura (nothing major, but annoying). Interior/exterior is still beautiful, strong performance, good fuel economy, very easy to use technology. Only negative - service is pretty expensive, and I am servicing this car religiously. Looking for another 5 years of service

Very good but could be great
Mechanics , looks and driving experience are great. However, the plastic interior parts are cheap . The seat controls are a cheap plastic with imprecise movements. The door inserts have sharp edges. For a few dollars the same pieces could be made to have a quality feel like all of my Mercedes do.

My first and last BMW
I really wanted this car. I like the look and the drive was nice. But I tote my kids around and spend a lot of time in the car. The technology stinks. It looks very fancy but is a lot of clicks and turns to get things done. Very distracting. Also, connecting to my iphone is awful. I still have to control everything but phone calls on my iphone. That requires me to look at my phone, unlock it and mess with it while I am driving. What good is handsfree if it is only to make calls. Don't get me started on how podcasts and audiobooks go back to the beginning if you are unlucky enough to receive a call while listening.

Love it more everyday
This is the only vehicle I’ve owned where the more I drive it, the more I love it! BMW was very thoughtful with control interaction, ergonomics for the driver and it’s a seriously ballsy grocery getter! So fun, quiet, and smooth to drive.
