Overall Bliss

This car is a driver's dream. The complete package of comfort and performance. Outside of the door trim losing adhesiveness, the car has been worry and problem free. You can't help but get out and push the 333hp to the limits. The brakes, steering and DSC help make it as safe as it is fun to drive. There is not other car on the road, providing as much fun as the M3 for the money.

The M3 is the best sports car for its cost and can compete with some of the greatest cars in the world. It drives extremely well in daily traffic and such.

Best sports car for the money

Compared to sporty sedans (Audi S4) and traditional sports cars (Porsche 911), the E46 M3 has all of the performance of the latter with very few compromises. The S4 is a great choice if you NEED four doors, but otherwise, the M3 is the choice for serious drivers. This car is the real deal when it comes to performance, and yet it's comfortable and easy to live with. The trunk is usable and you can even put someone in the back seat without feeling guilty. The M3 is always fun the drive, and never beats you up, unlike some harder-edged sports cars.

My BMW M3

I recently purchased a new 2003 titanium silver M3 Coupe. Love the 19- inch rims and the sports/cold weather package. Nappa leather/aluminum trim make the interior gorgeous. I've had the car for about 3.5 months now and the only problems I had were in a loose transmission plate that was replaced and covered under warranty and the snow - this is obviously not a winter-weather car to drive. Since I have the SMG feature and its rear- wheel drive, it was extremely difficult to drive the car around snow patches.

SHEER ECSTASY in DRIVING MY BMW M3

Fantastic performance, superlative eye- catching appearance, terrific handling, a navigation system I'd never again do without, user-friendly 6-speed trans., Phoenix yellow exterior w/ black canvas top and cinnamon leather interior that's REALLY unique, an optional Harmon Kardon sound system that's worth every penny. No problems to date other than driving in snow, which buying an extra set of wheels with Dunlap run- flat M3 tires has corrected.

Driving over a year now, I can say its a awesome sports car, truly special in everyway. Its unique and has very few faults, it will make you want to drive more. Obvious but... Can be tricky to drive in bad weather but mostly due to driver behavior, dont turn off saftey systems.

My first impression of this car was bad since within the first 2 weeks of ownership it had to be towed to the shop for not starting. The starter was replaced along with wiper blades and an oil change at no cost. Nice. It has been a dream ever since. It has incredible power for an inline 6 cyl and a suspension that compliments it once you get up to speed. The interior is well suited for a high performance car yet still remains very comfortable partly due to the lower seat extension a feature I really like. The only issue I've had with driving was getting use to the SMG transmission and now I'm madly in love with that setup. Great job on the entire design of this driveline.

M3 Madness

I upgraded from a 3-series coupe to a M3 and found the 2003 out-performs the 323ci hands down. The M3 is an awesome car and has specific apects that make it so. Whether your an middle aged man or a Guy out of college, you'll feel the freedom of driving one of the most powerful cars on the market. Whether your on the track, on the highway, in a city or even in a lot, you can always find some time to push the car. Whether its the speed you like, cornering, or just the style. This car has got it all. Improved stock suspension, brakes and strut bar help the car to preform over its successors. Though there are always aftermarket room for improvements.

I moved from a 540 to the 2003 M3. I wanted more of the "driving experience". I got it. THe M3 is a rocket, and corners unbelievably. Yet i have 3 kids, and visiting in St Louis I had my wife, the 3 kids, and 4 pieces of luggage in the trunk, all going to the airport. Try that in your 911! Cramped yes, but definitely doable. The car is fairly comfortable for 3 adults. The ride is ultra firm, and not for the light of heart. Drinking you AM coffee in the car, and you better have good roads, or you'll be wearing most of the coffee. On reasonable roads the ride is fine, again firm. However, all this is quibbling in the face of a very fun car to drive.

As of July '06 I've owned my M3 for three years and it's my daily driver. It is a fantastic experience. It takes a while to learn the SMG but it,s worth it; once you've got it down you'll never regret it. Buttery smooth shifts or burnouts from hell. The ride is pure performance. You feel like your hands are running over the surface of the road. With that kind of input you know exactly what to expect from the car. My M3 has been everything I hoped it would be. I've had any number of total strangers come up to me and tell me how much they like my car. I have no idea what BMW is going to do for an encore but I will be ready, willing and waiting.

I have been driving my coupe for 9 months (weekend driving) and I still can't get over the handling and power. This car just wants to go fast! Don't listen to those who complain about harsh rides. If you want comfort, go for the 325/330. Engine problem is a concern, but so far mine runs without any problems. Exhaust note is a bit cheesy but it somehow gives the car a character. I have taken to the track, gunball racing etc etc... Since this will probably be the last M3 before Bangle's inhumane design shows up. Get it!

This car is as good as it gets for someone who wants a performance vehicle that has a back seat. The SMG is easy to learn and is great fun. The car rides much better than my 2000 Boxster. The car has the performance of a 911 yet is more understated. The stereo is great. I love this car!

This car is fantastic. Top-notch performance: acceleration, handling, braking. Great looks. Very comfortable and smooth. Can be driven very smoothly or very aggressively. How many other high performance cars have a back seat that can hold two 6' 3" adults comfortably. I feel like I'm on vacation every time I drive this car. Downshift with a flick of the SMG2 paddle, hit the accelerator, and smoothly zip past and around any car going too slow. 155mph top speed. Drives very well in rain and light snow, with help of limited slip rear differential and DSC (which I turn off when the pavement is dry). I love the heated seats in cold-weather.

i just got my m3 smg about a month ago. so far i have to admit it's a great car.. the ride is great.. the speed you can go into turns is phenomenal, the gear changing with the smg transmission is is awesome.. forget about stick shift.. and if you are stuck in traffic roll along in automatic.. the pick up is more then good enough if you want to go faster..in the automatic mode. the breaks are great and no fading even after a few hard brake downs from high speeds (+/-140mph to 65-80mph).. the ride is hard but hey, if you want a softer ride get a c-class mercedes benz or a lexus.

I have had the car for less than a week but I am amazed by its handling and acceleration. The SMG transmission is a nice option (my wife drives it as well) it offers automatic trans. convenience and F-1 style shifting depending on any number of things. It doesnt have the torque or top end of a Viper but it gets you going very fast very quickly. It is everything I want in a car and then some.

After three months of waiting my M finally arrived and it didn't dissapoint. This is the most powerful vehicle I have ever driven, there is power in every gear and throughout the entire range of the tachometer. The response of the car is immediate and when pushed the car pins you to the drivers seat for an amazing ride. The interior is comfortable and supportive and the controls are functional and easy to decipher. In my opinion this is the most complete GT on the market.

Lets see. 50k, Supercar performance, seats 4 comfortably, looks like a million bucks, handles like a dream, usable trunk. It may seem difficult to associate this car w/ value, but I do. By the way I can not miss an opportunity to say that I replaced a Saab Viggen w/ this car, and that Saabs are absolute crap, there incredibly poor quality only surpassed by their invredibly incompatant dealer network and "cst service". Absolute junk. But the M3 is "The Car".

Anyway, This car goes like a jet, and looks like a million. Its not cheap, but when compared to other similar priced vechicles (Like Lexus SC430)it is no comparison. SMG is fun and easy,Beautiful interior etc. Whats not to love?

Not the Ultimate BMW

Fastlane, 02/22/2003

I've owned BMW's (540IA, 528IA) Porsche's (930, 944T), Shelby Cobra's (427SC, GT500's) and many other American muscle cars dating back to 1964. Although my 2002 M3 convertible with a 6-speed is fast and handles well I don't feel it is the "ultimate" BMW. As soon as I can dump my M3 that now sells for wholesale because of its reputation for blown engines I'll buy an M5 or Mercedes CLK 55 AMG.
