The 840i has a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine (335 horsepower, 369 lb-ft of torque). An eight-speed automatic transmission powers the rear wheels in the standard 840i and all four wheels in the 840i xDrive. The M850i xDrive has standard all-wheel drive and the eight-speed automatic, but a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 (523 hp, 553 lb-ft) lives underneath its hood.

840i
Standard equipment on the 840i includes:
