2006 BMW 5 Series 530xi 4dr Sedan AWD (3.0L 6cyl 6M)
The BMW 530xi: Motor - Smooth throughout entire RPM range although it lack the ummphh you would expect. Handling - You'll back down before the car will - outstanding Interior - Quality throughout-seats can wear on you on a lengthy trip. IDrive a snap for the computer literate generation, definitely not for you Mom. Lack of storage, center console useless. Cup holders work better than you would expect. Exterior - Germans can't match the Japanese for fit and finish, gaps large enough to fit your pinky in. Car is drop dead gorgeous but paint is very soft and scratches easily. Run flats are a no no - no tire life and flats abound, stick with stock.
The most copied car in the world. Secure in knowing that I'm driving one of the safest cars on the road. I've never pulled up to a traffic light wishing I had the other guy's car.
In-line 6 in need of a horse power boost. Clanky manual transmission with long overthrow needs to be improved on - difficult to provide passengers with a smooth ride, especially second and third gears Overall and awesome driving experience.
This is my 3rd BMW, two 3s and now the 530i. Had to have tires replaced at 2000 miles, car was shaking, sun roof malfunctioned, other than that ,car is great, nice handling, braking, great looking very quiet. The iDrive is not as bad as most people say.
Handling, bluetooth, headlights, styling, great gas mileage well over 30 mpg on highway.
Cup holders are useless, back seat should fold down as a standard option.
After thoroughly enjoying my 3 series, I looked forward to the 530. What a disappointment, I have never had any car in for service so often, the high battery drain others have mentioned, iDrive replaced, tires have been replaced twice at no charge due to noise and excessive cupping, brake sensor malfunction resulted in having brakes replaced at 10K miles. While BMW has replaced all these items, having to take car in over 10 times in a year is just ridiculous. Not what you expect for this much money. Also just can't get this seat and steering wheel adjusted to point it's comfortable for more than a little while. All in all, a great looking car, and I enjoy it - when it runs correctly.
Styling, stereo system.
Tires, cup holders are useless in the front, more storage in center compartment and glove compartment, get rid of iDrive. Reliability, period.
Had the car 9 months now, and love it. Did have trouble with the VANOS system, and the car was at the dealer for 3 weeks early on. No problems now. Has great acceleration and handling even with out the sport suspension.
Finish quality, acceleration and handling, and believe it or not the iDrive. Once you get used to it, easy to use and second nature.
