Hmmm, circa 1990 electronics at 2020 price???
Well, I had it when I received a quote to replace MMI (multiMedia Interface) that went out in less than 3 years, then the dealership wants to charge >$3,400 to replace! What a bargain :( Of course I'm being sarcastic. For a display that costs <$300, and other electronics interface all put together to make this interface at less than $800, Audi dealership in Santa Clara wants to charge what appears to be a highway robbery price. What I don't understand is that many of the car manufacturers want to tie the electronics warranty to the mechanical warranty: 50,000 miles for electronics warranty even if the car is less than 3 years old. Most of the electronics devices, other than for the latest apps that gobble up gigabytes of storage, therefore needing a new device every 18 months to follow Moore's Law, so called, for a device that just displays mediocre graphics that never can be improved once installed, software that is marginal and doesn't require frequent updates, to cost a high end graphics stations for 3D designs is mind numbing and painful to the wallet. I'm sure the labor cost is more than 50% of the replacement as they have stores in one of the most expensive areas in the country, but to charge what appears to be 700% of the material cost with nominal $40/hr labor rate is just another absurdity in the Valley. I'd strongly recommend to anyone looking for far less cost of ownership, and the acquisition cost to look at other non-European car for daily use, and even for every aspect of mechanical performance. Afterall, I have had over 20 cars in the past 40 years, and the most reliable and the best cost of ownership autos have been from the Far East. My six European models, while their engine performance has been great, you'll need more than 50% of the repair budget dealing with the electronics and electrical repairs.

King of the Road
Vault like build quality, feels like driving an elegant and maneuverable mini-tank on the road! UPDATE: I have had the absolute pleasure of driving the terrific 3.0T equipped, 2016 Audi Q5. I chose the S-Line model, with some of the cleanest body lines that compliment the Black Optics over Ibis white color scheme. Equipped with the Tech package and 19" wheels, the Q5 is pure unadulterated fun! The tan leather interior is very functional and very comfortable, easy to maintain and comes with a panaromic roof. The Bang and Olefsen stereo is superb sounding, beats a Bose setup any day. With a thoughtfully laid out display the MMI setup could be more responsive, but it is not too bad. Get ready for an adrenaline rush and sheer excitement, whenever the supercharged 3.0T V6 engine to comes to life. Mind bending throttle response leads to pin you in your seat acceleration and torque, and miles of smiles as you allow this performance SUV to stretch it's legs. Audi has indeed crafted a balanced, visually and viscerally pleasing SUV at a very reasonable price, this is a true gem folks!. I highly recommend the supercharged 3.0T drivetrain over the 2.0T engine, as you get a better suspension, larger disc brakes, dual outlet exhaust and a horsepower/torque range that will put any comparable SUV in its price class to shame. The only downsides are the subpar fuel economy in city driving and the lack of Apple car play tech. This is the absolute best vehicle I have ever owned in my 30+ years of multiple luxury brand ownership!

2016 Audi Q5 3.0
Pros: look, speed, handling, performance; Cons: tires and breaks worn out prematurely because it’s a heavy car. Informed Audi but not sure what will they be able to do about it.
