Awesome...
The Audi A4 is a very well-built and solid car, with a near-perfect balance of luxury and sport. I extensively test drove both the 3.0 and the 1.8T and did not find the power difference enough to justify the $5k price premium. Turbo lag is minimal, contrary to what reviewers ReallyBad and turbohoax have said. In fact, if you read their comments, it is quite obvious that they are one and the same person. Hmmm, wonder if this person has ever heard of a "test drive". Drive both cars to make your own judgment.
great car!!!!
I've driven mine all over Texas and have failed to see one flaw yet. Audi did a great job with this car. I see some people have had some problems but mine is great so far.

A4 1.8 T Cab is great fun
Just a great little car...fun to drive, with amazingly responsive clutchless 6- speed, easily switchable to automatic. Handles great, looks great, and handling the convertible is push-button simple. I think it's the best deal in it's class.
Good Car
It is very reliable and low maintenance. The interior and exterior design is fabulous. I'm a little disapointed by the performance (when in automatic mode). There's a slight hesitation when trying to accelerate (esp. from a standstill). The tiptronic aleviates all of these performance problems at the cost of remembering to shift gear.
Audi A4 Cabrio - Awesome!
Just got one of these babies and I cannot stop driving it. The beauty is stunning in moro blue with platinum leather. The handling and power are accurate and exciting. From someone who has always had a straight shift- this car is not a compromise. And the top- while one, you would never know this was a convertible. But with a 20 second press of a button, bamm! You're out in the open. Surprisingly little cockpit wind even at highway speeds. If you are looking for a luxorious but not pretencious, sporty auto, look no further.
Best 4x4 car on the planet...
If you havent driven one of these in the snow, you just dont know what you are missing.. truely awe inspiring
Perfect car except....
I traded in my 2001 1.8 A4 for the 2003 model. Yes, there is turbo lag, but I experienced this in the 2001 model anyway. With the 2003, you can use the "S" mode or use the Tiptronic shifter to get a faster acceleration to 1st gear. After first gear, this car flies. Handling is great on corners.
Best luxury sport sedan under 35K
I bought my Audi A4 3.0 after test- driving BMW 3 series, Audi 1.8T, Mercedes 240, Acura 3.2TL Type S, Infinity G35, and Saab 9-3 Arc. They all drove very well, but the Audi was the best value for money. I got the car for $600/- over invoice. I must say that I am very happy with the buy. The accleration is good, the CVT gives a very smooth acceleration. The car is quite even at 90 mph. Gas milage is excellent, a full tank of 17 gallons goes 475-550 miles. Bose stereo rocks. Display looks rich. Interior is very high quality. The controls on the steering wheels are very convenient.
A4 sport package 1.8T
I purchased a 2003 A4 1.8t quattro with the manual transmission and sport package. I was looking for a car with all wheel drive that was still fun to drive. The Audi definitely delivers. The sport package makes it handle like a sports car -- although you will need to buy different tires for the winter. My sister owns a 2002 A4 with the 6 cylinder and an automatic (no sports package) and it definitely is not worth the extra $8000 in my opinion. I took mine home for $29K and it's a great value for money -- fun to drive and extremely high quality.
I Love This Automobile!
I purchased a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro with the following equipment: Premium Package (including driver's power seats); Xenon headlights, Bose sound system and the Cold Weather Package. Exterior Color: Brilliant Black Interior Color: Parchment (Beige) Leather List Price: $32,285 Purchase Price: $30,285 I also received 1.9% financing for 60 months. As the dealer was unable to locate an existing vehicle with my requested specs, I had to order it from Germany. It was ordered on 1/20/03 and took delivery on 5/1/03. It has 411 miles on it after 3 weeks time.
Best Auto I've Ever Owned
I am am currently very satisfied with my Audi A4 1.8T Quattro sedan. The handling is precise, especially in foul weather, and gives an overall feeling of confidence. Quattro is what sealed the deal. The cabin is well appointed and comfortable. Also love my dolphin gray metallic paint. There are only two other Audi owners in my small city, so my A4 gets a lot of looks... even from teens. My family is proud that we own an Audi.
Fun to drive
Well detailed interior; comfortable seating; Dolphin Grey Metallic is sweet; more comfortable than a 325i; excellent handling; don't see one at every intersection. Don't think I would consider without the 5-speed.
Warning about 2003 A4
Beware, it appears the new 2003 3.0 A4s may have a serious electrical problem with the engine. Unfortunately our new A4 (2 months old) broke down with about 4,000 miles on it due to this engine electrical problem. No parts in the US to fix it and so far the dealership has been unable to get parts to fix it from Europe. We're concerned that we may need to use our state's lemon law to return the car and get out money back if it takes forever to find a fix. Extremely disappointed after paying nearly $39 K for a mostly loaded car.
Better than I could have imagined
After looking at MB c240, BMW 330ci and the Audi 1.8t I finally bought a 2003 3.0, Quattro, 6 spd and can I just tell everyone, it's probably the best car I have ever driven. I mean, the BMW was nice... but not worth the extra cash (plus the interior of the Bimmer is bland). The c240 was solid, but wasn't much fun to drive. Moreover, the interior looked like someone just started sticking stuff on the dash (very poor layout) My suggestion is to take the plunge, get the Audi, you won't be disappointed (but an Assured car might be a good idea... just in case).
Excellent Engineering/Reliability
I have found the build quality of this car to be excellent. The stiffness adds to a rock solid ride. Very stable which is good. Good performance and looks as well. Interior quality is benchmark in the auto industry.
Brand new thrill ride!
so far, so excellent! went with 2003 after after unable to find all options i wanted on remaining 2002... dolphin gray exterior is understated yet very elegant (much positive feedeback regarding this color)... steering wheel on 3.0 quattro now comes with radio control buttons... i happen to love the "sport" suspension, but if your goal is a "cushy" ride, don't get it... finding myself coming up with errands to run as an excuse to drive the car (!)
great car fun too drive
the car drives well and handling is great but it does need a little more power for the turbo.
fun car
I've been wanting an A4 for years and finally have it. I love the car. Fun to drive and very stylish. Great value for the price. But some design elements are strange when everything else is so well done. Ventilation system doesn't allow for fresh air intake, parking brake is under console, seat adjustments are old school, and with all those lights on the dash, why isn't there one on the cruise control so you can see it in the dark?
Total Satisfaction
Absolutely satisfied with the A4. It's fun to drive, looks great and is extremley comfortable in all situations. While not blazingly fast off the line, it's incredibly quick from 30mph up.
My 1.8T Quattro
Great looking exterior. Interior is fine, but 3 series is slightly more luxurious. Love interior lights. Feels like cockpit of a jet fighter. Handles great. Poor lowend torque. Leather feels cheap. Bose stereo isn't anything spectacular. Love spacious interior compared to 3series. Lots of leg room. Center console is a bit wide, knee keeps rubbing against the side and really hurts. Driver seat uncomfortable. Average Audi service. Don't always take care of the issue and loaner policy blows. I spend 30k and when its serviced, I have to drive around in a Ford Escort?!
Great car for the money
The best car you can buy for under $30K
Better than a BMW
BMW owners say that they are superior because BMW just make BMW's where Audi is just a glorified Volkswagon. Doesn't BMW also make the Mini? The only thing that the Volkswagon has in common with the Audi A4 is that they are made in Germany. I have test drove a BMW before I got my Audi and the BMW is outdated and cannot handle corners or any sports driving. If you want a car that is smooth, updated, classy and fast, get the A4!
Fun Car
A-4 1.8T is a dailey commuter. It has been a definite head turner and people come into wife's office to ask her about it. She loves the comfortable seats, style and it's a RED convertible.
Great Car
The quattro system allows you to do what others can not. The handling is phenomenal and all in a luxurious environment.
Just OK!
I have had my Audi for 2 years and it has been to the dealership for multiple problems 4 times and it needs to go back again. From interior peeling to ignition coils, it really has been one thing after another, mostly little things though. I hate the fact that the 2nd cup holder is in the center console, pretty useless! However, I have to say that I really love this car. It is a smooth ride and it can virtually get through snow and ice with very little slipping if any at all. The Bose stereo puts out great sound. It handles corners great. Could have a little more power, but its not bad. Will get another A4 but it will definitely be the newer 2009 model. Hopefully they'll get it right in 2009.
No... it's not a Glorified Jetta!!!
I was comparing with IS300, Mazda6 and Jetta GLI and even the Passat GLX before making the final decision. I'm glad they added the power seat feature on the premium package. How funny for a 30k car doesn't have a power seat before 03'. I love the look inside and out. At first 1.8T seems a bit weak at start up but runs much better once on the open freeway. Nothing can't fix with a new chip.
Poorly Built Car
We have had our Audi for less than a year and it is one problem after another. We the car arrived the convertible top was coming apart at the seams on the interior. It took a week to repair. Then the compartment in the trunk (used for storing the roof) broke and it took 2 trips to repair it. Last time it was in for service they found a "small" transmission fluid leak. Two months later, it is in again and now they have to replace the transmission! Worst made car we've ever purchased!!!!
A -stands for Awesome!
Just picked up my new A4 QM with sport, cold and premium packages. The car is awesome, extremely stable and secure.... nothing like my old slob, I mean Saab. If you are looking for a sharp looking car that you will be able to drive in any kind of weather conditions, this is it. Period. +
German Delight
I've owned this car for about 9 months now and it has been a real pleasure to drive. The handling is superb and the power is adequate. The interior is exquisite and luxurious. We've had no problems in 5500 miles except for a bad seat memory module. Gas mileage is improving as I am still in the break- in period. Overall, I've had a fantastic experience with this car.
A4 at 1 year - problems
In this "maintenance-free" first year, my A4 had headlight problems, low oil problems (I don't drive hard either), vibrations and major engine problems. My engine problems consist of a number 1 & 5 error, which is one tiny step away from replacing the entire engine. It appears that only 4 of the 6 pistons are working.Lovely! I feel this car is one of the sleekest cars on the market and a killer performer. However, the reliability, fuel economy and price (mine=38000) are so bad I don't recommend this car to anyone. If you love AWD and Audi, go with the A6/A8. Audi doesnt cut the same corners with the A6/A8 as with the A4. But you will pay the big bucks
A4 3.0 Quattro
Fun to drive. Responsive controls. Quiet on the road. Terrific brakes. A car meant to be driven.
Fast and Fun, off the dial
After comparing BMW 330, Saab 9-3 Volvo S90 I purchased the A4 3.0. with full package except nav and sport. Found the sport option made the car too road stiff and the nav was more confusing than it was worth. Driven full out with governor off, speedo maxed out and then some, It moves well. If you want to burn rubber at start then use the triptronic shifter, othwerwise the CVT is smooth. Overall have had several high end autos, this is one of the best.
A4
I was comparing this car to the IS 300, but then I drove both cars and didn't think for another sec.
Great for those who really know Audi
2003 1.8T Quattro Red with all options. Installed KN Filter, new air intake and a module for the turbo. Increased the HP from 170 to near 210. The AWD is great for snowy winters in Connecticut. Excellent handling in the rain and slippery conditions, tight ride - very tight and rigid - good for German lovers. Slight turbo lag, but overall excellent speed - plenty for acceleration and high speed passing on the turnpike. Brakes are as good as they get - at times I worry about people behind me. Good stereo, excellent heating and A/C. Displays are clean. Stereo: 6-CD Changer at your reach - really happpy with it. Gas milage struggles past 20 in city.
Good value Audi
Well built car. It is a bargain at its price. Well equipped. A very capable vehicle.
First "luxury" car
This is my first "luxury" sedan, at least in this price range. I had a 1989 Maxima that I loved, and this car is similar in "fun to drive" ways, only much better. It handles very smoothly and straightens curves like no car I've ever driven. The quattro makes it very sure-footed even in heavy rain. 75 mph seems like you are going nowhere at all. Tried the BMW 330xi and Mercedes C320. The Mercedes was mushier, the 330xi stiffer, but also nice. Went for the Audi because overall I think it is a smoother riding/performing car, and the quattro is the best 4-wheel drive made.
The New Top Quality German Marque.
I tested the same class vehicle of Mercedes and BMW. The Audi, as I perceived it was best i class. The Mercedes was not even close in handling acceleration and overall sporty 'feel'. The BMW was a close second very; similar in handling & acceleration but the quality of 'fit and finish' were not up to the Audi's. I had to look trough many of the 300 series before finding one that was close. So overall in my opinion The audi has come a long way in every aspect. The BMW has slipped a bit in quality, still a fine car. The Mercedes was actually disappointing for such a costly entry level sedan. There you have it...One man's opinion, three fine cars.
nice car
Just got this car few days, I think its great, waiting for 1k millage so i can actually RUN the car.
Saftey Hazard
Looks good, but am afraid to turn left in front of oncoming traffic, feels like a Disney Autopia Car.
The Worst Car You Could Ever Buy
My 2002 A4 is a piece of junk. DO NOT BUY an AUDI A4. Two engine coils have failed after only 7 months of ownership. This is a known defect and Audi is recalling vehicles. Even if Audi has corrected this issue in 2003, their Corporate treatment of its customers is horrid. They did everything in their power not to make me happy. Your better off with another vehicle mfg.
Surpassed Expectation
Looking to move into a lightly used German sports sedan, one drive and the decision was over. Much tighter steering and responsiveness than the others I looked at. Even though it only has a 4 cyl, the turbo more than makes up the difference, but no nagging lag problems. Build quality was unreal and the car is easy to add-on aftermarket engine and body mods. I'm sold and this won't be my last Audi.
Love it!
Superb handling, and incredibly sure- footed thanks to quattro AWD. Suspension offers a great balance compromise between comfort and handling. 3.0 engine is smooth and powerful. Interior is stunning. All in all, a joy to drive.
EKW Review
The car is an amazing value. A friend who owns a BMW 330 coupe noted that for $16K less than he had spent, I had one heck of car on my hands. The CVT is remarkable, and handling is superb. The best car I have ever owned. It is a fantastic driving car. Audi likes to hype the Quattro because it is a profit maker for them, but the front wheel car is superb. I have never felt more in control of an automobile. I'll stop. I could go on and on. For the money, I am hard pressed to believe there are better driving experiences on the planet.
Outstanding vehicle on all fronts!!!
The A4 1.8T with CVT transmission eliminates the off-idle deficiencies of the small (1.8 liter) displacement motor, not to mention the wonders of this remarkable tranmission in and of itself. Smooth, smooth, smooth and very good performance. The rest of the car can be summarized in one word...QUALITY! Check it out and compare...you'll see.
no reliability
My car has sport and premium package that is not really premium because the poor quality of the materials.Fun drive, safe car, good gas mileage, confortable ride but low realiability
PRELIMINARY
ONLY 500 MILES AND I LOVE IT.AFTER DRIVING OVER 1,000,000 MILES IN EVERYTHING FROM JAGUARS TO MERCEDES AND FORDS TO CADDIES I FINALLY FOUND A CAR THAT I HAVE FUN DRIVING. IT IS ALL POSSIBLE DUE TO THE NEW CVT PLUS THE TURBO. THE CAR FLIES WITH NO EFFORT AND WITH THE SPORTS PKG I NO TROUBLE CORNERING AT ALL SANE SPEEDS. I WILL WRITE ANOTHER REVIEW AFTER MY FIRS 10,00 MILES.
Great Car
The new Audi 2003 Avant A4 is a great car, but the turbo lag is very noticible, far more than I anticipated. Now, if you want an all-wheel drive car, then I can think of no better car to get if you apreciate a sporty ride, and great build quality. I had the Subaru Oakback LL Bean edition, and while the Audi is $3000 more, and just as fast, all the other features of the Audi make it worth while. I love the body style, Bose Stero is awsome, handles great, build quality is excellent, lots of storage, and not bad gas milage for a turbo engine. I love the car, but the turbo lag is a serious issue to consider.
All Season Driving
At 76,000 miles, I am very happy with this car. The interior design is very ergonomic and everything is oriented to the driver. Trunk space is huge. The exterior design is simple, yet elegant. Quattro AWD makes the car suitable for any driving conditions and the car is more than capable of performing in the corners - it just stays controlled at all times. The 1.8T engine is a little under performing considering the brute weight of the vehicle, but an ECU upgrade quickly fixes that issue. What you lose in engine performance, you gain in fuel economy where I get an average in the low 30's on the highway - approximately 27 mpg over all. Original and stock clutch is still going strong.
hunk o junk
the car broke down within 24 hours. An apparent problem that Audi is aware of but prefers to have it done as warranty work rather than recall
too less horses
Quality made. Looks great. But the engine is a failure. Below 2200rmp nothing moves. Then, when the Turbo kicks in engine gets VERY noisy. This car has deserved a much better engine. Advice to Audi: take the 1.8T out and replace it with VW's VR6 from the GTI
