German Delight
I've owned this car for about 9 months now and it has been a real pleasure to drive. The handling is superb and the power is adequate. The interior is exquisite and luxurious. We've had no problems in 5500 miles except for a bad seat memory module. Gas mileage is improving as I am still in the break- in period. Overall, I've had a fantastic experience with this car.
A4
Very comfortable ride, smooth and quiet interior, a joy of a drive.

highs are high and the lows are LOWS
For value and performance, no other car compares. It is a complete joy to drive (when everything is working), comes well- equipped with all the latest safety features standard. If only it was as reliable as a TOYOTA... I've been to the dealership a dozen times (mostly for turnsignal failures) and now the car stalls about once a month and this car is barely a year old! From reading consumer reviews I was aware of the reliability issues but hoped the all-new design would be better. Traded in an Infinity G20t to sacrifice reliability for performance. This is probably the first and last time I'm buying an Audi.
2003 audi a4 quattro 1.8T
This is the best car in its class for the money. A comparably equipped BMW 325ix costs over $5000 more and doesn't look nearly as good in sedan form. The interior is ergonomically perfect, with everything right where it belongs, while conveying a very upscale feel. The car should definately be ordered with the optional sport package ($1000), which includes a sport suspension and 17'' wheels. This does everything for the appearance and handling. It's very quick and gets 32mpg on all trips taken. The 1.8T is alot more fun to drive than the 3.0.This car is the perfect combination of performance, luxury and economy for under $30k.
EXCELLENT
I have driven my car over 26000 miles in one year. That's the equivolent to 2 years' driving...nothing but a pleasure. On the longest drives (8 hours total, non-stop, city/ hgwy) I've always remained comfortable. During rainy days and at night w/ my xenons, always safe. No engine troubles, no stalling, no electrical problems. Fit & finish are great, as well as all the non-gadgetty gadgets. Although I would prefer better gas mileage, the comfort & prestige and head turning design make it all worthwhile and gives a huge level of satisfaction!
Wish I'd NEVER bought this car!
I test drove a lot of cars before I purchased the Audi and this one seemed like the most fun and by far looked the best. That was where the fun ended...Radio went dead after 1 week, one headlight went out, then another a few months later, then had to pull over on a major highway because coil pack went bad at which time the tire also shredded (which Audi refused to replace), air conditioner smells like mildew and now neither gas gauge registers. Now I'm in the process of getting rid of the Audi (which no one will buy for more than 19K and I paid 31K for it brand new and fully loaded 10 months ago). So much for a fun car!
audi review
great fun to drive, handles well, feels safe in all weather conditions, performance is excellent, interior is comfortable, back seat leg room slightly small and trunk slightly small.
Fun car to drive
This is one of the best cars that I have driven. I had to choose between Acura 3.2 TL type s or Audi A4 and I picked the A4.
Who said, a car is a car?
I've had the 3.0 for about seven months and really enjoy driving it whenever I get the chance. I'm not overly impressed with the S4 this year as the cost/performance ratio is not that great. If your looking for a well built german auto, with all the options far below the cost of other brands in it's market segement. The 3.0 is worth the money.
A4 Sedan
My dad bought me this car. It has all the safety features, luxury amenities, and performance I expect from a German car.
what a car!
my audi A4 1.8T Cabriolet is one of the most fun cars i've ever owned. long trips are no problem, as the car just takes care of the road, and the interior appointments make sitting for a few hours pass in no time. terrific seats! economically, it is a great value, and the milage is pretty good, too. the audi is quick and civilized, and turns heads like nobody's business. buy one and have a blast!
This car Rocks!
This is a great car! Plenty of get up and go and don't even try to pass it on the interstate. I was torn between the 04 Saab 9-3 and the Audi. I wound up buying this one with 6000 miles on it and the audi certification. The car has everthing I wanted except a manual transmission. The cars assembly has been flawless. The interior is exceedingly quiet with the top up and reasonably quite with the top down. It comfortably fits my 9 & 10 yr old in the back seat and the trunk has more room that it first looks like. Easily fits 2 bags of golf clubs or suitcases. Highly recommended car!
Audio Problem
I bought a Audi A4 1.8T about a month ago. It runs good and is getting better and better as I get used to it. This is definetely well-built car but not electronically reliable.
Audi 1.8T Experience
Purchased 2003 A4 1.8T last month. The turbo lag is very noticeable. Almost had an accident because the Audi hesitated while accelerating from a stop sign. The gears grind when shifted into 'Drive' in the morning. Car has 29,000 miles. Glad I got a CPO vehicle, certified up to 100K miles or 2009. I knew not to expect a flawless vehicle from Audi. I do love the handling and looks of the car. Blk on Blk looks great, with 17 inch wheels. I get a lot of compliments, as I'm the only A4 owner in town. If you can spare extra $3K, buy the 3.0. I wish I had.
Love the Car
The car in my mind, is your best buy, pound for pound.
Engine Ignition Coils Fail
My wife's 2nd A4. At 10,000 miles, two ignition coils failed-car undrivable. Dealer had car for one month. Had car back one week-third coil failed. Begged them to replace the fourth(final)coil. Audi won't let them (not enough parts). My wife is afraid to take the car anywhere beyond our neighborhood for fear of being stranded a third time Audi Client Services totally unresponsive. The dealership had over 20 A4's and A6's in the lot waiting for parts. Dealer says their hands are tied. Audi should be recalling these ignition coil problems, not waiting for them to fail.
Great Stuff!
My car is 9 months old and I have driven it across Canada and then to Boston. First gear has been a little stiff, but at 12,000 miles it has finally broke-in. The car is fantastic. The 3.0L engine I think is essential since the car is quite heavy. I test drove the 1.8L Tubo engine but found that it hesitates when you step on the gas which can be a little scary when you want the power to get out of a problem. Gas milage is great in the 3.0L...much like a four cylander. I highly reccomend this car.
Great car... but
I love this car. Fit and finish is great. Car looks aggressive with performance package 17 inch wheels. Fun to drive. Quattro is awesome. But I am plagued by squeaks and rattles. I would expect better from Audi.
The Whole Package
This car has everything that you could want in a car except for maybe a little more horsepower and if you don't mind spending a couple hundred more bucks you can buy a chip that increases the turbo output. Handling is excellent. The interior is immaculate. I get stares all the time.
Fun to drive but expensive to own
My 2003 A4 has 53,000 miles on it. I bought the car for about $32,000 and have spent over $12,000 on repairs. The car is poorly built and unreliable. It is very difficult to work with Audi of America and the local dealers are terrible. Before buying one of these cars I would strongly recommend talking to someone who has owned one and checking out the service of the dealers where you live and the estimated service costs. My car has had several major problems in the 2 1/2 years that I have owned it and neither the dealer nor Audi or America seems to care.
An excellent car, with some drawbacks
Audi has crafted a truly fine automobile here. The interior is better executed than almost ANY other, regardless of price, anf the understated elegance of the exterior is sure to look good for many years to come. With 13K miles so far, and driving in all conditions, I'd say this car is a 9.5 out of 10. The quattro and ESP together make it unflappable in inclement weather.
Fast and Fun, off the dial
After comparing BMW 330, Saab 9-3 Volvo S90 I purchased the A4 3.0. with full package except nav and sport. Found the sport option made the car too road stiff and the nav was more confusing than it was worth. Driven full out with governor off, speedo maxed out and then some, It moves well. If you want to burn rubber at start then use the triptronic shifter, othwerwise the CVT is smooth. Overall have had several high end autos, this is one of the best.
Poorly Built Car
We have had our Audi for less than a year and it is one problem after another. We the car arrived the convertible top was coming apart at the seams on the interior. It took a week to repair. Then the compartment in the trunk (used for storing the roof) broke and it took 2 trips to repair it. Last time it was in for service they found a "small" transmission fluid leak. Two months later, it is in again and now they have to replace the transmission! Worst made car we've ever purchased!!!!
A4
Beats BMW Xi's...classier than a Lexus, cheaper than a Benz...hhmmm...one complaint though, could up the HP a bit...
Quietly sensational
This car is a joy to look at and drive. Winter in Upstate NY has been brutal this year and I was concerned that the 17" all-season tires would be an issue. Not so. I bought tiptronic as other family members can't drive stick but Tiptronic really is a great compromise, I use it all the time, slick fast and efficient changes. Can't wait for spring / summer to wash the salt off, get wax on, and get the sunroof open.
Don't call it a wagon
An absolutely wonderful machine, and a wonderful buy. The avant is a perfect balance of sportiness, luxury, utility, safety, and fuel economy for the job.
A4 3.0 Quattro Sport
An excellent car. 3 month/5000 mile review, had to wait for winter use before reviewing. I had a BMW 325xi picked out until I drove the A4. Many more features, larger trunk, larger motor, better vehicle for $3800 less. Smooth, quiet, handles well on snow packed roads, will slide on ice like all vehicles can. MPG is same as listed on window sticker. I suppose I could drive a little less aggressive but that won't happen in this fun car. A little slow off the line, but that ends quickly in the mid-range power band.
A4 Revisited
After nearly 5 years driving my first A4 (~90k miles), I added the 2003 A4 to the family garage. Both are Quattro, 1.8T with 5 speed manual and "sport" package. I'm keeping the old one for commutes. My spouse gets the new on after I "break it in..." The 2003 is improved and refined from the 1998. It has an even more solid feel with extra power to boot. 5 years of improvements with pricing that changed very little! It's a blast - now if we'd just have some more snow.
Great car but purchase with caution
After owning my A4 for 2 yrs now, I am satisfied but at the same time disappointed. I've had my fuel pump burn out at 29000 miles and at about 38000 miles, the water pump slowly leaked into the timing belt and its components. This made the timing chain snap and one of the pistons slapped 2 of the valves... bottom line, my car was at the dealer for 2 weeks. Had it not been under warranty, $5000 in damages.
Audi A4
I brought the car out to pick up my co- workers the other day, they were impressed. One guy had an IS 300 and the other guy has an M5. Both thought that the car had a good balance of sportiness, luxury, and value.
One of the best cars.
The difference between german cars and any other country that manufactures cars( we will use american car companioes) is like night and day. Everything from performance to the paint job is significantly better with german cars. After driving german cars i feel that i cant go back. It all begind with the new Continuiously Variable Tranmision that is smooth as butter. Hard accelerating results in the smoothest up shifts. The tiptronic engine combined with the CVT and the turbocharger make this unbeatable for the price. The interior is just as nice. With full leather and the latest technology this car could be your home.
Disappointing
After great initial enthusiasm for this car I have become very disillusioned. I have had ignition coils replaced twice (once stranding me 400 miles from home), more flat tires than ever in my life, squeeks and rattles, seatbelts that get wet when it rains, on and on. I love this car, but I can't afford to keep it now that the warranty has expired. It's cost me $2000 in the last two months in repairs. It's great to drive, but too unpredictable to enjoy all of it's wonderful features.
Best car for the money
I was shopping for a new entry level luxury car, and the A4 simply ruled. At under 30k, you couldn’t find anything else even close in its class. Leather, 6disc in-dash cd player, dual climate controls and little gadgets like underseat foot lighting, power outlet in the trunk, full size spare with matching rims, first aid kit.. etc etc.. Interior is of the highest quality and excellent exterior styling. The most beautiful car out there. The CVT also feels like a jet taking off.. smoothest transmission I’ve ever driven. Owned a BMW 328 and MB C320 before, and will now always look to Audi’s first for my future choices.
Pretty good
Great handling, plenty of power and fun to drive. Outperforms all BMW 3 series (except M3)and all 5 series (except 540 and M), but what do you want for $20,000 less and no brake dust on your wheels ? Hard to tell I'm driving a front wheel drive car. And CVT: I don't even notice it. I feel the prestige I need when driving this car
Quattro A4
Its really nice to know that my car will handle well in all types of weather.
Don't buy the A4
This car has been a failure from the start, every since my first coil pack failed I can't go on any long trips in fear that the other ones will fail and leave me stuck on the side of the road.. AUDI fix your cars!!! Follow these links before you think of buying a A4... My next car will be a BMW. http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/026/au to/No_easy_fix_for_failing_ignition_coil s_in_Audis_VWs+.shtml http://www.nytimes.com/2003/02/02/automo biles/02COIL.html
A very reliable car in all conditions
Feel so happy whenever I drive my A4. Handling is incredible, and you can certainly feel the tight grip that quattro gives you in all weather conditions. Interior is stunning, with all it's features right at the place where they should be. Also.. WOW, what a look! Nicely done by Audi.
I came back
My second A4, big improvements over 2000 model. Only wish that I opted for the sport package again, not nearly as good handling, even with the 17" 235/45 tires. Milage is good, 22-27 mixed, winter/summer, 30+ on hwy. Cup holders stinks, still. Miss the auto dimming mirror, too.
2003 Audi A-4 cabriolet-close to perfect
I chose Audi over BMW mainly because of styling and performance. The BMW has become boring looking to me, and there are too many of them on the road. The Audi has a crisper look and feel. The interior is more luxurious, and the seats are more supportive. The CVT transmission takes some getting used to. It is not as fast off the line as the BMW, but the absence of any noticeable shifting is very luxurious feeling. Side by side, the Audi A-4 just has it all over the BMW. CAUTION: BUY ONLY THE 3.0 V-6. The 1.8 is hopelessly underpowered. BUY THIS CAR. You'll love it!
Audi A4
This car is everywhere in LA, and I thought I was the first ones to get it there. My girlfriend loves the ride, 100% Euro feel, very glad I traded in my Lex.
Better than a Bimmer
I've had (and loved)a 3 series BMW, but this car is even more fun to drive. The Quattro AWD gives the car a feeling of adhesion to the road that's amazing.
This baby is awesome
Owned my 2003 A4 for 3 1/2 months and love it. Dolphin gray inspires comments from strangers. 9k miles in less than 4 months and drove from DC to FLA. So far I'm thrilled. Handling is tight and effortless. Acceleration, particulary at high speeds, is top notch. Car is extremely comfortable - feels like settling into a cockpit, but with a luxurious surrounding. Soundsystem is beyond excellent.
a creature of comfort
The 03' Audi A4 has been a blast to drive. One word-QUATTRO! I do not think I will buy another car without AWD. Audi design is impressive. Very nice interiors. Excellent paint finishes. The 3.0 has hussle, but may be less impressive at low torque. Cons: Brakes squeek, interior wind noise at higher speeds 70-80mph. Overall awesome! Wish I had the S4!
awesome experience
Most fun you can have with your clothes on. Incredible ride. Joy to drive!! Better than BMW, Mercedes, etc. Incredible value.
A4
This series is really good, I'm recommending it to all my friends.
Great car!
I have had my Audi for about 10 months and it looks brand new! I love the way it drives! I feel in complete controll of the vehicle even in poor weather conditions! I drives smothly and I have to admit that I have had a speeding ticket b/c I dont realize how fast i am going b/c it is SUCH a quiet and smooth car! 80mph feels like 30mph in the car!
Can't wait for my 2nd summer!
I had the top down today on the first day of spring in Chicago, and even the anti-war protesters on Michigan Ave gave admiring glances. I have 6600 miles on my red A4 cab since 12/02, mostly short hops in the city. No problems with the car at all - fit and finish were as good as my prior new cars, a Nissan 200SX and a Lexus SC300. I would recommend this car without hesitation. I considered the BMW 330i, the MB CLK 320, the Infiniti G35 coupe, and a few otehr import convertibles, and still believe that the A4 is the best combination of style, performance, and value.
Quattro is good
Audi Quattro provides excellent traction on wet and snow covered roads. Beautiful interior with high quality materials. Car has been back to dealer four times for a rattle in the exhust, only appears on cold days. Also car has developed a problem in the ignition, warning alarm will not shut off when car is turned off and then car won't lock.
Total Control
I bought this car on accident, I was on my way to buy a 325ci, but I saw the 2002 A4 and that’s all she wrote. For those of you who live in Southern Cal, try Topanga Cyn. The grip is remarkable! If you think you're too hot into a corner, press the gas! Amazing! That’s a move I could NEVER do in my GTI! It brings a tear to the eye.
Excellent
I used to have BMW, I found AUDI more economical and they paid close attention to detail in exterior and especially interior. The engine, fuel consumption and performance is excellent. Smooth ride and thrill when turbo kicks-in. Interior electronics and design is superior quality and standards are much more than any other luxury car has.
