Many trim levels to choose from. Pays to go up one level for power to both front seats and even Navigation. No memory seat available for Premium trim. Great engine,. Start stop engine technology still has issues fro some reason. Can disable it .

I’m pleasantly surprised...

I come from a cabriolet A5 2014, which I bought brand new and sold at 55K miles. I expected the A3 to become “too much of a compromise” quickly as I owned it, and instead, it becomes more and more of a pleasant surprise. Sure, there ARE compromises: Back seats are very uncomfortable for adult passengers, the convertible top is incredibly slower than on the A5 to open or close, and I miss the A5’s Quattro (4 wheel drive) dearly. But that’s where the shortfalls stop and the advantages start. The interior in my new A3 is years ahead of the A5, well, maybe because, it is! I was lucky to get one with keyless entry, virtual cockpit, heated seats, full black leather, and quite a few other niceties that my A5 lacked. Although the front wheel drive 2.0 turbo is rated at 170something lbs, it DRIVES faster than my previous A5! And yes, I do know how to drive a car fast... My A5 would tell you. Somehow Audi seems to have finally gotten the timing on their automatic transmission right. Before the A5 we owned an A4, and that car was pathetic on the S “sports” mode. The A5 was better, but not quite perfect. The A3 strikes a balance that I can only call “handsome”! Nice in Drive mode, and incredibly spirited in Sports mode. All the electronics, which I always found somehow “off” in both the A4 as well as the A5 I previously owned are just “right” on the A3. As Steve Jobs used to say, “It all just works!” Very satisfied. If there is any one thing I would change about my purchase it would be the missing Quattro. Once you drive a Quattro anything else feels like a waste of engine energy. Future note to self: make sure to go with a Quattro again next time. Otherwise, way to go! Superb car.

Not bad but maintenance costs are rising...

I like the look and the handling of this car. I have had the S-Line Premium Plus since new - almost 5 years now. Had multiple recalls on the passenger airbag, but all done FOC by Audi even if a bit annoying. As per a couple of other reviews, the shift is jerky especially when cold and when the AC is on. Had a VW CC previously with the same jerky transmission ....seems Audi/VW can't get an auto transmission to shift smoothly in low gear. However, when accelerating the shift is very smooth indeed. I'm now starting to run into maintenance issues and the first one was the water pump - also mentioned in another review. Once the water pump goes the thermostat (installed next to the pump) also tends to go out (they are plastic...) so I had both replaced together per the repair shop recommendation. Audi wanted over $2100 to do the job but I found a 5* local place on Yelp and they did the job for $1200. Not cheap. The guy told me the A3 water pumps go out 'like clockwork' around 5 years old. Mine has 65k miles. So if you're looking to buy used be aware of this issue....and be sure you can find a good shop to do your repairs or you'll be paying (high) Audi prices...! Overall the car has served me well for the 5 years I've driven it. I hesitated over a 3 or 4* score but opted for the 4* in the end as I do enjoy driving it and I like the looks of the S Line. Hope this helps someone who is researching the vehicle. Update July 2023. Have been driving the car now for 5-1/2 years. To make a long story short the mechatronics unit on the gearbox failed at about 76k miles. I had to have it towed to the dealer. They tried to get some warranty from Audi USA as they considered this to be an exceptional failure at that mileage but Audi corporate wouldn't agree to a single dollar. Cost to replace the mechatronics unit including labor is $4k. This has colored my opinion of Audi and I'm no longer a fan. Reducing my rating to 3 stars.

Very impressed with my Audi A3 2.0T Quattro

Overall this is an impressive "little" luxury car. The car handles and rides extremely well. It goes exactly where you point it and the ride is smooth and very quite. The engine performance and handling are very refined. The feel of the leather wrapped steering wheel and leather seats are amazing. The sound system and infotainment system are excellent, but take some time to get familiar with. I do not like the engine start/stop system, but I am glad you can turn it off. Overall this is a great compact luxury car that I look forward to driving everyday and looking back at after I park it.

This is a good car if you like a car with good handling, good performance, an upscale feel and look, and good economy on regular gas. The quattro has more horsepower but the FWD has plenty of go.
