2020 Acura RDX SH-AWD 4dr SUV AWD w/Advance Package (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 10A)

The RDX doesnt have the overall interior panache of an Audi Q5, or the powertrain options and steering feel of a BMW X3. It's a bit tighter than a Lexus RX, or the presence of a Mercedes GLC. So why bother, right? Because while it may ring up nothing but second places, at the end of the day, its the sum of all those, and the consistency of its performance that wins you over. And even fully loaded with the SH-AWD. Tech, and Advanced packages it comes in between $5,000 and $10,000 less than its competition. I got the Advanced package primarily for the adustable suspension. While the lower spec RDXs offer 4 driving modes, they don't change the suspension calibration, just steering, throttle, and transmission. And while no one would accuse those shocks of performing the witchcraft of the magnetodynamic shocks in all the high-end sports and go-fast cars, they are a big step in that direction. And that .matters to Acura as they reinforce their position as the sportier luxury brand. Theres more than a little NSX DNA here. Even the styling, striking from most angles evokes that, without the staidness of the European brands or the overdone 'angry samurai" front end of the Lexus. For reference the last few years I've owned a Mercedes ML350 (incredible utility and maneuverability, a great engine/transmission pairing, except when the transmission failed at 65,000 miles, and a "too bad, so sad" dealer response to the $9 ,000 replacement bill, and very overboosted steering) and a totally awesome, totally reliable 2016 Golf GTI that reminds you everytime you drive it that greatness comes in all shapes and budgets. Also there was a Boxster S and my wife's Z4 in the mix. Swapping the Benz for the Acura, after driving the others was easy. My biggest gripe? The font in the main display requires reading glasses for anyone over 50. Seriously. Much has ben said about the infotainment touchpad, but very little about the voice recognition. Which i now use for about 90% of all my nav and infotainment system control. Its not quite Siri or Alexa, mostly in its speed, but its quite reliable at address voice inputs, station selection, etc. That leaves the driving experience. I am 5' 11 and 235 lbs, and i can dial up accomodations in the seating and driving position that make multi-hour drives very comfortable, and the heated and vented sport seats I find both supportive and comfortable. Around town, comfort mode is fine, and sport mode definitely tightens things up a notch. SportPlus, make that 2 or maybe 3 notches. Power from the 2 liter, 272 hp turbo-4 matches the overall demeanor of the RDX very well, but boy, what 2.4 liter 325 hp turbo-4 would add. Or, more likely an NSX-style hybrid arrangement with a couple of electrics adding 100hp or so. The chassis feels up to it. In the end, though. I paid my money and took my choice. I could have afforded any of the others, but none of the so took my breath away as to make me want to part with an extra $10 grand. Fast forward 6 months and a few thousand miles. The RDX is a spectacular cruiser. I have learned to trust the ACC and the other automations. I'm still not in love with the user interface or the transmission selector. Both could stand some 'un-engineering' and made simpler. The sound system continues to amaze with the sound quality. The SH-AWD handling is mostly invisible, but on a couple occasions I have been startled by some athletic moves that I am unaccustomed to in an SUV. Power is adequate, but another 50 HP would be awesome. Reliability, as I would expect from a Honda product, has been absolute. Highway mileage is acceptable at around 26-27 MBG, but in town I can't get it above 16 MPG or so. Blame the smallish engine and largish turbo.

Great vehicle but not perfect - better with age

Updated at 46K. - everything still holds true from the previous reviews. Love the car but changed original OEM tires (Continentals) to Pirelli's and man what a difference. Car is much quieter (than when we had the car new) and is more athletic. The replacement of the intercooler DID fix the problem as I've not had a reoccurrence. Have driven newer models as loaners for service and I don't notice any differences in the newer generations. I have switched over to doing my own service and everything is pretty simple so far. Have changed all the fluids (Crankcase, transmission, differential, oil, filters, and brake fluid) and followed the recommended services (on my own). Brakes are still like new. Not much wear so expect them to go to 100K. Still Love the car and I've found you can get better gas milage being laying off the gas a bit, but our Audi Q5 was MUCH better (over 30 MPG on the road). I'd have no reservations buying this as a used car - the Advance package. Updated on 03/29/2022 - Okay 3 yrs and 36K miles on the car. Still love the car. The gas mileage is poor and I've never been able to achieve more than 24 MPG (and that's on the road around 65 MPH), typical is ~20 mpg. I've had problems with Apple Car play and had it in which they fixed some cables but that really didn't fix the problem. The most concerning issue was as I was passing a truck in the rain, I got a check engine light flashing and the car went into limp mode. Almost caused a huge accident - dangerous situation. Pulled over and restarted the car and continued on my trip without a problem. Dealer said there is a TSB related to the turbo intercooler so hopefully that fixes the problem. Still love the car although the windshield seems a bit susceptible to rock chips. It's a very comfortable cruiser and love all the tech. Sound system is off the charts. Everything else below is still valid. Updated on 07/24/2020 - One year and 8K miles into the car and we love everything except the gear "shifter" - still have to think too much to shift - not intuitive. Gas mileage on the road is running about 26 but in the city it's still at 19. You would think it could do better. The infotainment has rebooted a couple of times so that's a bit annoying - usually on long drives. One service issue with the rear hatch catching when opening (made a popping noise) but the dealer fixed it by adjusting the lift gate's hinges. This is a great cruiser and very comfortable and quiet. Can't say enough about the sound system and now like the touchpad after getting used to it. Love the Heads-Up Display more every time I drive it. In my opinion you won't go wrong with the RDX.--> end of update 2020 RDX Advanced. Overall a great car. Replaced an Audi Q5. $7K less and more features. We looked at Audi, Volvo, Lincoln, Mazda, Honda, etc. Initially felt the Advance package was a bit pricey but worth it since we'll keep the vehicle for 10 years. Love: Heads-up display, quiet, roomy, BLIS, Audio System is excellent, under the floor storage in rear, very quick and fun, dash, seat comfort, SH-AWD (thought this was a gimmick but it really works nice), 360 degree camera, and Apple CarPlay. Like the auto-lock feature in case you forget it automatically locks the car. Dislikes: Push button transmission (hate), ugly HUGE ride mode selector (hate), touch pad (Getting used to it),POOR GAS MILEAGE - averaging 18 MPG after 1K miles - not using sport mode - seems very low.

2020 Acura RDX SH-AWD A-Spec 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 10A)
144 of 151 people found this review helpful

UPDATED 12-29-20 - After a call with Acura Client Services, they instructed my dealership to replace the amplifier on my RDX to correct the "No Audio Connection" problem it was giving me. This did correct the problem, and my ACS advisor was a pleasure to work with. The only remaining bug is that Apple Car Play crashes with some regularity, but I don't use the feature much (would be more useful to me if it were wireless). I am pleased with my vehicle, even had it out in the snow once (finally) and it was fine. Recommended. ----- Original Review: After researching small luxury SUVs for a few months and test driving the Lexus NX 300 and the Acura RDX, it was clear that the Acura RDX with SH-AWD and the A-Spec and Technology packages was the vehicle for me. The only extras I got were the remote start on the keyfob (works great from a football field away, or less if there are buildings in the way) and the Zurich Shield offered by the dealership, which I've used before on my Hondas to great success (didn't have to wax them for five years, water still beaded up). Here's what impresses me after 1000 miles, and what doesn't (no car is perfect, btw). Pluses: quiet, comfortable ride, Sport + mode is insanely fun compared to the Comfort mode (and unlike the Lexus, changes more than your shift points), huge moon roof really "opens up" the interior, lane assist and adaptive cruise control works WAY better than I expected, sensors really help you avoid fender benders via multiple visual and audible alerts, infotainment system is STELLAR and EASY TO USE, despite people ragging on it (there was one bug... wait for it), the A-Spec styling is REALLY sharp, especially the black contrast pieces and the 20" gray wheels, and there's tons of room inside for a small SUV. Minuses: the infotainment system gave me a "no audio connection" error once, which disappeared (then reappeared many times after this original review). This is a known issue that seems to be persisting with no known fix, according to the dealer, who told me to wait for software updates. Also, the brakes make some noise initially when wet or cold, but it quickly clears up for me after I drive a bit and use them. That's it. This is an absurdly nice vehicle with plenty of power as compared to the Lexus NX 300 F-Sport. The 10-speed (8 in Sport + mode) transmission shifts smoothly and effortlessly, and I find the overall experience of driving this vehicle simply excellent. I would have wanted to see better combined gas mileage than around 20 mpg, but with a 17 gallon tank the cruising range is acceptable. Super-nice vehicle, especially for the price. Love the Platinum White Pearl paint as well, the fleck looks incredible (was the reason I got the 2020 instead of the 2019, which would have been cheaper, but this color was not available).

We have now lived with the 2020 RDX for about 1.5 years and are ready to update our review. We still like the handling, responsiveness, and ride very much. The font size on the navigation system, however, is much too small for a senior citizen to see from the driver’s seat. The screen itself is quite large, but it seems that the people designing this system just lacked common sense. More importantly, we also developed an issue with a loud popping noise from the panoramic sun roof that sometimes occurs when entering or leaving an elevated driveway or surface. My dealer says Acura is aware of the problem but has no fix yet and Acura Client Relations has been no help. This problem goes back to the 2019 RDX model year, and it is surprising that Acura does not yet have a fix. Because of this lack of responsiveness, I must downgrade my review. We have owned many American Honda vehicles over the past 20 years, and it is disappointing and sad to get this response.

We traded in our 2014 BMW X3 on a 2020 Acura RDX. We bought the base model in a beautiful diamond white pearl with parchment upholstery. Very good looking car indeed. Looks like a true performance SUV. Getting in the car it gets even better. Very good design with superbly comfortable seats that outdo the BMW. Behind the wheel is a pure pleasure, so easy to drive with a lot of safety features on the base model. Enough power to pull away from stop lights with ease and for overtaking when needed. Good rear visibility in large side mirrors as well. We looked at getting another BMW but were blown away by how good value for money the Acura is. Highly recommend it. After having owned it for six months it's still as good as ever. We choose to drive it in the sport mode as it seems to be more responsive.

When shopping I drove the Cadillac XT5, the Volvo XC60, LEXUS NX30, But I was drawn to the RDX body(sporty yet stylish) and the console, it is a wicked cool, different console. I am horrible w technology and was very nervous purchasing a car w so much Technology. It took me 40 days to get use to all of it. I first regretted not getting a touch screen, but let me tell you, if I can use this system anyone can. It is actually easy to use and I dont even need to look at it to change stations, make phone calls etc. I easily navigate w out taking my eyes off the road. I thought about it then, if I had touch the screen, then I would have to keep my eyes glued to screen and that would be dangerous. NO finger prints on my screen either. I love the quick response of the vehicle. It is so quiet inside which was important to me. It has 16 speakers w an incredible sound system. I love the heads up display. That is an awesome feature, which I have come to really love. The interior is so spacious. I feel the interior has a luxurious feel. I absolutely love all the censors around the car to avoid obstacles. The SUV has great visual. C&D said you cant see out of the back, that is BS. When test driving all, I was looking to see if their were blind spots. Acura, puts even an extra small window in the back to make sure of good visual. I love the roomy big console w lots of storage. I agree that big knob for changing driving modes a bit big, but it makes the car different. Rear seats fold down easy and the storage is awesome. I keep the compartment open in back and my groceries go in there so not to fall all over the car. Cons: I can't believe I got the top model and the side mirrors don't close electronically. That upsets me. I only needed that while in garage. The Honda Passport has wireless charging for phone, so why not the RDX. No spare tire. Some glitches like the automatic door locks sometimes dont lock w out pulling out key fob. I had issue w Android play, but it needed the app to be updated. The voice recognition doesn't always work smoothly. It works great 5 times and on the 6th it pauses. We almost got the tech package and last minute got the Advance and for us it was well worth the extra money. Having censors all around the car, the 360 back up camera, the Heads up display rocks keeping my eyes in front on road. The heads up display is one of the best inventions. Gas starting to get 22 city and I got 25 hwy. If my gas stays around there, I will be happy. I am still under 1,000 miles on my vehicle so time should improve the MPG. I have car 6 weeks and I absolutely love driving my car. I enjoy both the heated and cooling seats very much. Even my husband who loved being a professional passenger, now insists he will drive. He loves the car a lot. Summary: A great roomy SUV with plenty of storage and I think the best info system around. ( I think the "critics aka experts" don't realize how easy to toggle around on the system makes it for the users. Very quick pick up yet quiet road noise. I have it almost a year now and every time in the SUV I say how much I love driving it.

This is my fifth Acura and 3rd RDX. I had a 2015, 2017, and just took delivery of the 2020 with the Advance Trim. Over my driving lifetime I have owned 2 fords, 3 dodges, 2 Mercedes, 5 Hondas, 2 Chryslers, 1 Oldsmobile, 1 GMC, and 3 Nissans. I routinely research cars in multiple fashions. I subscribe to magazines, read articles on Google, read numerous reviews on KBB and Edmunds, watch reviews on YouTube, and go to car shows. I often give educations to salesmen at the dealerships. So why did I buy another RDX given the fact that the reviews have not been very friendly, particularly with regard to the infotainment system. I was very happy with the old touch screen and nervous with the new touch pad and decided to learn as much as I could about it before actually signing on the dotted line and I still find myself learning new features and procedures on it every day. The fact is that its different and as such there is a reasonable learning curve and you have to put forth the effort. You cannot simply turn on the engine and expect it to just work, just like any new technology. Before I took delivery I was told that the freezing and other issues were caused because people tried to use Waze on CarPlay and apparently Waze and the Acura system do not like each other. If that is of major importance to you, don’t buy the car or just use Waze while not connected to the car or use a different phone that is not connected. When I need Waze, I use my wife’s phone in coordination and addition to the Acura system. The audio is separate and works great and so is the actual phone. What other apps can you use while driving? Once you get passed that and start using it, the touch pad is actually quite intuitive and easy, and yes once set up, operating it is safe and simple. Just make sure you add your favorites (phone#’s, addresses, radio stations... while not driving. The car has much more road feel than the prior generation and the SHAWD delivers a firm ride. The engine is smooth and very peppy. Definitely more fun than the prior generation. Gas mileage is not great but what car in this segment is? The seats are extremely comfortable, the interior is roomy and provides a feeling of luxury and power as you enter the car. Definitely a nice place to be. I will not say that it is better or nicer than the other European competitors or the Lexus, Infinity, Cadillacs... Just about every car made today will be reliable and will perform as it is meant to. At this point the truth is that it is all a matter of personal taste. The Volvo XC60 is a beautiful comfortable car but it is not very sporty. The Lincoln Corsair is gorgeous inside and the Lexus RX is unbelievable inside but neither has any road feel. They are just sanctuaries. I personally do not like the run flat tires that come on the German cars but that is my personal preference. I simply like the way the Acura feels by comparison to the other models in the segment + the Acura is by far a better value. Loaded up the car is several thousand dollars less than any of the above and holds its value better too. The BMW with its pricing and options made me feel like I was being nickeled and dimed. (Especially with the insurance policy for the tires) and I hate that. The reason that the Acura is so much less expensive is that it is much less customizable. It was not an issue for me but maybe it is for you. I don’t much like the auto off feature but all the cars are coming with it. Truth be told, it will likely be a pain in the neck if you are in heavy traffic but being stopped at a light, I’ll get used to it. For the times of being in traffic—push the button. In summation, I highly recommend this car.

Great luxury SUV

I really enjoy driving this SUV. The seats are very comfortable and are nicer than a lot of other luxury SUV's that I test drove. It's got good storage and cargo capacity. The panoramic moonroof is also a really nice feature. It offers a great distraction for kids when they start getting antsy. "Hey how many clouds do you see?" "Can you see any planes? None?, keep looking lol. Now the moonroof shade cover did get stuck in the open position once two summers ago on a really hot day, but a couple days later it worked again and I haven't had an issue since. The SHAWD is amazing. You really feel it kick in when powering around curves and this makes it a blast to drive. The infotainment system isn't as fancy as some of those wrap around dash displays found in Mercedes, but it is very easy to use and that makes it safe to use while driving. The different drive modes are great as well. I usually drive in sport but when the family is in the car I tend to put it on comfort and my wife appreciates it. The snow mode I tested for the first time this winter and it really improved the control I had on snowy roads. My only complaints are that there is no drive mode that offers better fuel economy. I also find it slightly annoying that if you want to disable to the auto idling, you have to turn it off each time you start the car up. But in the end, these are minor complaints compared to all of the great features this car has to offer. UPDATE: I had the car for 4.5 years before recently trading it in for a new 2024 RDX. I had no issues with the vehicle, but I wanted a refresh. The 2024 I got also had a quieter cabin due to more noise cancelling foam in the frame, better brake engagement, and improved acceleration (plus some extra features based on the trim). I'm still happy that I went with the RDX both times over the Q5 or X3. You really can't go wrong with any of the other vehicles, but I still feel the RDX is the better bang for your buck and is a more comfortable ride than it's German rivals.

Luxury and sport combined 2020 RDX

SUV is more luxurious than previous generation SUV. This is my 3rd RDX. I previously owned the 2017 advance model and I chose to purchase the 2020 advance which I was able to purchase at a very good price. It takes a day or 2 to get used to the information system. Acura has the owners site where there are videos which explain how to operate everything. The android auto which is new for 2020 works fine, I was even able to connect google maps and the directions came through the navigation system. The navigation system in the 2020 works better than the 2017. The voice navigation works great when you are on the freeway and need to detour. The deciding factor in the purchase of the RDX was the ride in sport mode. Within 1 day of purchasing the RDX we had a snow storm of 7 inches followed by a ice storm. The RDX handled the snow and ice with ease. I chose the RDX over the Volvo XC 60 because in order to get all the features on the Volvo would have cost me around 8 to $10,000 more. UPDATE: I have owned the 2020 Rdx advanced 2.5 years. My dealership covers my oil change and tire rotations. I have not spent any money on maintenance. Car is operating great. I am a senior citizen and the infotainment system is easy to operate. Acura sent out a update to info system which had to be done at dealership. Very satisfied with the amount of space in the car. Have taken it on several road trips and It is very comfortable ride.

So there is a class action lawsuit against Acura for the 2020 RDX. My car is 5,000 miles on it. Ever since the very first day I drove it, every few weeks I turn on the car and it acts like it’s a frozen computer. The display shows a constant circle in motion that never stops until you turn the car off and then back on again. My most recent issue is out of the blue, while on vacation, we received alerts for every system. Emissions, brakes, cruise control, etc, warning us of high speeds and acceleration. This happened as soon as we turned the car on after it had been driven the day before no issues and was parked in a garage. My husband backed up the car thinking it was some kind of fluke and the car would not accelerate at all. Had to tow the car to the dealership it was undrive able: all to be told that as soon as it got there, they cleared the sensors and because they did not come immediately on, that there was nothing they could do. It appears that there are som major issues with the sensors based on this class action lawsuit and even with the notifications coming back on, repairs have not been successful and preventing said drivers filing this lawsuit from having their car come to a complete stop while driving because the sensor on the transmission failed, etc. This is extremely dangerous and I am beyond afraid to drive my brand new car. This is not ok!!!

In January we purchased our seventh Acura. We purchased a 2020 RDX at Los Gatos Acura CA. Beware, there has been a steady decline in Acura's quality and customer service. The car has 9K miles and has been to the Acura Service Center 7 times. The new transmission has already failed. They replaced it with a used rebuild transmission. Furthermore, they are incompetent when fixing their own vehicles. This RDX has had major electrical and audio issues. The dash board has been ripped out 3 times, wire harnesses and electrical components have been replaced. But every time we get the car back, it happens again. We are going on a month of rental cars. Acura will not take the car back and replace it with a new one. This car has caused an insane amount of inconvenience and frustration. I will never buy another Acura and highly recommend that you don't either. This is what we get for being loyal customers. BUYER BEWARE!

I love this car. I’ve owned my RDX (silver with Technology package and SH-AWD) for 10 days and I have zero regrets with my purchase. Almost all cars made nowadays seem “good enough”, but I’ve only owned Hondas, BMWs, and Volvos, which are all great car companies. This is my first Acura and I find it to be much better than its competitors. I love that the trims are simple to understand and don’t include a hundred different optional equipment packages. I think the design of the car is modern yet not overly stylish, it seems sophisticated to me. The aspect I love most about the interior is definitely the touchpad and large center screen. The touchpad took a few days to get used to but once I got the hang of it I loved it. I think it was smart to go with a touchpad instead of touchscreen. My last few cars had a touchscreen and within a month they were covered in scratches, smudges, and fingerprints. I would clean it constantly but soon gave up trying to keep it nice. The screen in my RDX is gorgeous, so bright, crisp, and fast (no lag!). And it will never have scratches or fingerprints! Love it. I also love the seats, the 12 way power allows me to get very comfortable. The large panoramic roof is sooo nice, I really like driving at night with the shade open. Lastly, driving in Sport+ mode with the SH-AWD is FUN. I don’t necessarily baby my cars, so I love putting this car through it’s paces. The RDX seems really well engineered and the gear shifts are so smooth. The SH-AWD also makes driving up Big Bear much less anxiety-inducing. I’ve only traveled up the mountain twice, but each time there was icy roads and snow and I never felt the car slip or slide like my BMW X3 used to do. I feel confident driving it. Of course, no car is perfect in every way. A few things I wish were different: the auto start/stop (which every car seems to have nowadays) took some getting used to. But if it improves fuel economy I’m all for it. I wish it came standard with rubber floor mats instead of the carpet ones. And finally, I wish the trial of SiriusXM satellite radio was longer, 3 months isn’t enough! I really do love this car, looking forward to driving it for many years! Or at least until the next generation comes out :D

A stylish, powerful, and luxurious SUV

This is a ground up inside out all new design RDX introduced in 2019. The 2.0L Turbo engine is strong enough to power this grown-up 3rd gen RDX better than previous V6 engine. We just made 1,500 miles drive in 20 days with this 2020 SH-AWD, Advance, majestic black color RDX. It follows (I would say, lead) Acura's recent design language very well such as large grill face and high-tech inside button-based gears. Ride comfort, cabin quietness (except for intentional engine sound during acceleration), quality materials altogether support the luxury brand of Acura. Ok, straight to the most controversial part: the infotainment system, dubbed as TTI (true touch interface by Acura). Some critics or users complained of the un-conventional touch interface; unlike the computer touch pad, TTI refers to one-to-one positioning between the screen and the touch pad. Within a day or two of usage, I just loved it. It is so much intuitive and easy to use after all. I even don't need to look at my finger in the touch pad or swipe the cursor multiple times to locate the app or command I want to use. Real problem was not the Acura's system, but when we want to use mobile application such as Apple CarPlay (now Android Auto is available as of 11/4/2019), we have to go back to conventional dragging/positioning touch pad, which takes so much longer time than Acura's TTI. I wish Apple (and Google) should understand this futuristic automobile application and allow users to choose within CarPlay or Android Auto. During last 20 days of use with mostly CarPlay for Google map and Spotify music, I have encountered one incident that audio was unavailable followed by screen freeze, and unable to turn-off the infotainment system even after I turned off the engine. After I simply rebooted the infotainment by pressing the three buttons (back - home - B zone) simultaneously and reset the system, it came back to normal. However, I understand that if any users who do not know this issue and the temporary solution like I did would be upset (or even panic during driving). However, there is no such system free from glitches, especially any computer related one. So, let's just wait and see how the newest system update (D.1.2.1 deployed 11/4/2019) and more to come can further stabilize it. Acura released the paper regarding the list of complaints reported so far, which this firmware update can handle. The list is surprisingly long. And it is even longer for 2019 RDX (with previous version of firmware); however, as far as they can be handled, I believe the infotainment system should be much stable. On top of that, Android Auto is finally joining the game, and thank you for efforts, Acura. Overall, I am very much fond of idea and reality of the car. The more you know, the more you can enjoy!

Loving my new RDX! Very comfortable. I owed a caddy SRX and lexus RX. My favor by far in price. I got every option possible and it was cheaper then my almost loaded RX. Right up there with the Lexus but 10k cheaper! Can't go wrong, drives great!

Front Brake noise

Front brakes make noise and you can feel the abrasive rubbing. I have had both front brake pads replaced, I only have 3000 miles on my vehicle, only to have the symptom reoccurrence next day .Dealer says no fix for this problem, Acura is aware of this since they build the new RDX in 2019, we are going to 2021 and no fix yet . Happens when applying brakes going about 40-45 mph

I am owner of 2014 RDX Tech with 115K miles. The only issue I had with it was both rear shocks had to be replaced during warranty...a known problem. But even though I love my 2014, I shopped around other SUVs, Lexus RX and NX, Toyota Highlander, Audi Q5. One test drive in Sport + mode put such a smile on my face I was hooked. I am 65 and do a lot of highway driving so seat comfort, audio options, navigation, adaptive cruise control, road noise and pricing all played roles in my selection. There were dealer incentives in place to get price of SH-AWD Advance to just under $42K, fully loaded. That sealed the deal. The navigation pad can be tricky trying to scroll between screens but within a screen, very easy. The voice recognition works better than any I've seen and in fact I use it the most. The seats are very comfortable and I really appreciate the seat coolers during the hot SC summer months. The road noise is minimal and I'd say better than the both Lexus and even Audi. The acceleration in Sport+ is excellent! Makes driving fun again. All of the tech works very well, adaptive cruise control is excellent and makes highway driving much less tedious. My three major complaints are: 1) Mediocre Continental OEM tires that I'll change out to different Contis at first chance 2)Mediocre gas mileage, ~22 overall vs nearly 25 with 2014 RDX and 3) Android Car play wouldn't display Waze app until I put Android Carplay app into Developer status (Google for instructions, it actually worked!). I kept the 2014 RDX (daughter drives it) so garage now has (2) RDXs in it...and I be happier.

I am nearing the end of my 1st yr of ownership and 10k miles. This vehicle drives wonderfully, and handles well. The cabin is very comfortable and the cargo area generous. Visibility is very good as well. Plenty of tech is also included, and that's where we hit our first glitch... The touch pad controller is not only annoying, but it's just silly! C'mon guys... you can do WAY better with a simple problem like this.Next problem is fuel efficiency... it stinks. I get 19- 19.5 around town in COMFORT mode, and 25 on the highway when I baby the thing! After driving an Audi with a 3.0L supercharged engine which gave me 23 - 24 around town and a whopping 34 on the highway, there's just no excuse for this poor mileage. I feel the car may be mildly underpowered. Lastly, and most concerning: The brakes. Shortly after purchasing, I was driving in mildly damp conditions and I heard a grinding noise in the front end as I came to a stop. It was repeatable, and occurred especially when there was dampness, and cool temps. I returned to Acura and was told there was nothing wrong. The noise continued, and then I was told that it was the composition of the pads which were supposedly new, and the Acura was working on a "fix". I am almost 1 yr into owning it and no fix is available. A little research will reveal that this problem existed in the 2019 model as well, and it seems many folks are not happy with Acura's attention to this. Additionally, I would like to know WHY my salesman DID NOT DISCLOSE this to me before I purchased??? Rhetorical of course... I can assure Acura that I will get this fixed or they will be buying this car back from me.... Other than that, I love it !

Considering an RDX? It looks amazing on paper, no doubt. Educate yourself a bit further, though, and google "RDX Class Action Lawsuit." Read about it and you'll find that far from being a nuisance suit, this details the daily frustrations and safety issues faced by many RDX owners, myself included, with an electronics system that simply doesn't work as advertised. The freezes, shut downs, error messages and sporadically non-functioning features await you on every drive. Even with the latest firmware, Apple CarPlay continues to quit on a random but consistent basis for no reason while driving, and usually in the midst of navigating yourself on a tricky patch of road while using either Apple Maps or Waze. Or while using Acura's own native navigation system, you'll notice that the directions on the main screen and those on the heads-up display are suddenly different and conflicting. (That's if your HUD is actually working--mine keeps quitting sporadically, much like Apple CarPlay.) Then there's Acura's all-new for RDX touchpad interface. It actually works wonderfully, and as advertised, IF you use it with Acura's native apps. Switch to CarPlay or Android Auto, however--which is likely what you'll use almost all the time if you have a higher end smartphone--and you'll discover the touchpad interface wasn't designed for that. Instead, you'll navigate your screen selections via an incredibly glitchy cursor that makes the Lexus interface--widely known as "worst in the business"--look amazing by comparison. And I should know because my car prior to the RDX was a Lexus. This is all tremendously disappointing, and even worse: Acura has no fix for any of this. Things have gotten somewhat better since the RDX first hit showrooms in 2019 as Acura continues to revise the firmware. But they're still a long way from done, and given the MANY sporadic problems that remain, there's no guarantee that they'll ever be resolved. As I said at the outset, the RDX is an amazing car on paper. But a car on paper is not what you're buying. And there's a huge difference between offering buyers a lot of car for their money, and offering them a lot of car that works as it should.

Really love the car; drives and handles great, responsive and solid ride! The dash is awesome, everything within reach and easy to read. Only minor drawback is the infotainment system (still new for me), some features not as intuitive as my 2015 CRV Honda (also miss the passenger camera with use of right turn signal). Using YouTube was more helpful than the owners manual, highly recommend. The seats, doors and dash are beautiful, well constructed, high end quality. Side mirrors do not automatically fold inwards when car is turned off but this is minor. The sound system is amazing! I did opt for the 20inch tire/wheel set; they are gorgeous! Enjoy!

This is a fabulous car. I haven't had it for a month but I have already driven 4000 miles. The infotainment system is just fine- took just a day to get used to it. I use Apple Car Play and Waze constantly with no issue. The adaptive cruise control is amazing- such a safety benefit- and makes highway driving such a breeze. The sound system is incredible- try to listen to HiFi recordings to really appreciate it (I found playlists of these on Tidal). The seats are very comfortable, the skylight is wonderful. The only little glitch is that the "put out your foot and open the trunk with no hands" mechanism doesn't like flip flops- we find it only works with heftier shoes. Coming from 20 years of minivans I do wish it had more cupholders but you can't have it all, and this is close.

2019 RDX Tech. Pkg. / FWD. This is the SUV to beat. The RDX's report card is all A's. Everything works. The ride quality is superb, the interior room is plenty for all passengers, the drive modes are really tuned to feel different levels of driving enjoyment, The head lights are especially spectacular; you will find yourself looking for dark roads to enjoy the powerful illumination, the sound system is a daily symphony - WOW, and the V-Tec engine is a hotrod. The truth is this engine is only about 2 tenth of a second off from an Audi Q5. Plus, it decimates Volvo, Cadillac, and Infinity. The V-tec goes from proper to insane with the turn of the mode dial. The power band on this SUV will raise your blood pressure and place a ear to ear smile on your face. Do not under estimate the RDX, its is the new bench mark of Practical Luxury. Update July 2022 More than 3 years with the RDX no issue, just a minor recall to replace the info. Screen connector. The brakes still have plenty of grip, no issues. The only pocket spending I have done is oil changes and I replace all 4 original tires (at 45,000 miles). The interior is still brand new and the engine is still superb. RDX is the perfect SUV.

We really like our new SH-AWD RDX with the Advance package, the front seats are the most comfortable we have tried. We traded out of a 2019 CRV, and have not looked back... well not much. We had the a few days and my wife told me there was no remote start. Apparently Acura wants you to use their phone app at a cost of monthly service. After spending close to 50K for the car, shelling out 640.00 for an option that almost every other car in the US has was a little hard to swallow. Last week we wanted to put some presents in the back and realized there is no rear cargo cover. Yep, add on another 175.00. It had never crossed my mind that it would not be there on the advance package. My last RDX and my last two Honda's have had them. This a very nice car, with absolutely gorgeous interior, the sun roof is awesome. To sum up my wife's feelings, " I really wanted to Love this car. The silly things you have to buy after make me wish we had just bought another Honda"

If you live in an area that gets snow, do not buy this vehicle. All the sensors are behind the big Acura logo on the front of the RDX. When it gets snow on it, all the driving systems shut down - Cruise control, lane keep assist and most importantly VSA - Traction control. After talking to Honda/Acura, this is how the RDX is designed! Simply, it handles horribly in the snow and on slushy roads. If you don't believe me, ask before you buy.

We recently purchased a 2020 Acura RDX. We immediately discovered that when the rear hatch is opening, it makes a loud popping noise. The dealership has had the car in for repair for one month, and they can’t solve the problem. Supposedly they brought in consultants and claim it is a manufacturing problem and can’t be fixed. Now they want to return the vehicle to us, as is. It’s only been driven twice! We will never purchase another Acura again!

Absolutely love our new Acura SH RDX. Just got it today from Sutton Acura in Macon Ga. What a classy midsize SUV & love how it handles on the roadway & all the new technology as I learn how to master it. We looked at & drove many other automobiles, but we fell in love with this classy style SUV when we drove it & saw all the awesome technology it had & all the room inside & the seats with the lumbar support felt great. It surely sold us & we couldn’t be more happier with our choice. Thank you Sutton Acura, we love our new Acura SH RDX.

The best vehicle I’ve ever owned

The RDX is a phenomenal vehicle. I can’t help but smile as I zoom past other SUV’s that are struggling to get on the highway. I have owned several other makes of vehicles, and none of them even come close to the thrill of driving this Acura. I have the A-Spec trim level, and I love the blacked out chrome accents, the suede-like interior trim, and the heated/ventilated seats are amazing year round. I am yet to find anything I don’t absolutely love about this SUV. I was deciding between the A-Spec and the Advanced package, and I decided I more than likely wasn’t going to use the upgraded technology that comes with the Advanced package, through I do wish I could add the 360 cameras to mine. The functionality of AcuraLink makes it easy to remotely start my vehicle, regardless of the distance I am to it. I test drove almost all of it’s competition before ultimately making my decision. I can’t wait to see how they attempt to improve on this vehicle once my lease is up in another two years. 100% recommend to everyone who might be looking at a luxury small SUV. There is no wonder why it is the best selling SUV in it’s segment right now. It nails every part of the drive experience from start up to shut down.

I am almost 60 years old and have been through many cars in my life. This one is the best by far. It is not the fastest car I owned. I have the base AWD. It is not the best in any category, but it does EVERYTHING so well. I have it for 6 weeks and absolutely love it. As far as "negatives"... well the infotainment system is not the easiest, but after using it, most people will get used to it. Because of COVID, I leased through a third party (RODO.com) that drove the car to my house from the Acura dealer that they chose (about 100 miles from where I live). I knew the lease price to the penny. There were no hidden fees. They included all COSTS up front including taxes, DMV, and dealer fees. I am super happy with the car. I will be going to my local Acura dealer for my maintenance services during my lease.

Acura/Honda has been going down hill since 2015. Been buying Acura's for 30 years, the problems started with a defective 2015 TLX which was replaced with a 2016 RDX which almost caught fire and that was replaced with a 2020 RDX which only has 9000 kilometers on it and is already having issues with all the throttle and other electronic issues. If they took all the tech out of it, then it would be a great vehicle. If I wasn't locked into a 4 year lease. I would get rid of it. My second car is a 2006 CRV with 250,000 kilometers, have never done anything but routine maintenance. Next car will be a Lexus.

Bought a '20 tech in Jan '20 it and sadly it's a really bad car. We've had the car 60 days and I'm on my 5th trip back to the dealer and have a follow up to repair the issues from today. I've never had this happen before. We're Honda/Acura loyalists, this being our 9th Honda/Acura vehicle and it's an embarrassment to the brand. Within the first month we had to have lower control arm bushings replaced, and the brakes squeal, lift gate is misaligned and damaged the plastic tailgate trim/spoiler that the regional Acura manager offered to sand-down versus replace, and it has the worst leather seat upholstery stitching and assembly I've ever seen. It's also a gas HOG, averaging 17.5 in mixed driving and only 20 or 21 on 500 mile highway drive. All the complexity of a four cylinder turbo w/10 speed transmission to get what MPG? Huh? There are much better choices. Honda isn't the manufacturer it once was, evidenced by the awful reliability rating it now received. Save yourself from the mistake we made, look at something else and don't be shy of the American brands. Have had almost 10 Honda/Acura products and just came off of two GM SUV's that were stellar and trouble free. UPDATE at 6 Mos: The RDX is a dressed up CRV, don't believe the "it's different" nonsense. It feels cheap and unsubstantial; noisy impacts with road imperfections, uncomfortable seats all around and it handles like crap with the steering going from completely numb to overloaded in turns with poor progression. The engine and drive drain, always the best part of Honda/Acura products is a massive and inexcusable disappointment. The BEST this car has averaged is 19.5MPG in warm weather on the highway mostly. In the winter it was averaging 17. We have a pick-up truck that gets better MPG and doesn't hesitate on acceleration while it figures out which gear and what program to proceed with. The infotainment and electronics are also an abomination. The infotainment system takes a prolonged time to boot up, is completely counter-intuitive no matter what story they're pitching for the interface - it stinks. The "safety" systems are laughably over sensitive to the point they are often incorrect and frustrating. Multiple functions like door lock/unlock and lift gate controls go dead until the car is "rebooted". What a joke in 2020. There's always a honeymoon period after buying a car when one is happy with their purchase. We literally despise this car. So sad we purchased versus leasing it. Take a pass, this is a horrible vehicle. So sorry we bought it.

Just traded in my BMW X3 2015 for an Acura 2020 RDX AWD A-Spec. The platinum white pearl with black interior looks sporty and handsome as well. Its performance is top-notch for a 2.0L turbo engine. The drive is smooth and it has a very quiet cabin compared with the old RDXs. So far, I like this car very much and hope it will serve me well for yrs to come.

Drives well but the infotainment system sucks

It's a very smooth drive, nice acceleration, and i enjoy the 360 cameras. But every time, literally every time, i get in this car the infotainment system has a glitch. The navigation won't load, the radio stations are stuck and can't be switched, it randomly won't connect to my phone even though it says connected. The infotainment system is also not intuitive and distracting to use. And the cherry on top is my back windshield SHATTERED spontaneously and they said it's not covered. I was sitting in the parking lot waiting for my toddler and when I shut the door i heard a loud BOOM. No person or car was behind me or even in the parking lot and the back windshield was crumbled. Which is a known problem with this car.

We had our RDX for about 28 months. Initial impressions were good. Decent engine performance and handling. Interior is not up to par with other luxury brands. The infotainment system is hard to use and program. Reliability has been a disappointment. The entire radio and GPS system stopped working suddenly. Dealerships do not have shuttle service or offer loaners for extended repair times even when under warranty. Other brands way outperform Acura in customer care experience. Plan is to look to another brand next time.

Don’t Leave Home Without One

When your 72 years old and been driving since 16 and your first car was a Sedan with three speed on the column mechanical clutch and no power steering sliding behind the wheel of sleek new 2020 RDX SH-AWD Technology Package you can’t believe how much the car has come in such a short period of time. I had a 2018 RDX which was a great car but the redesigned 2020 is the nicest one yet. The infotainment system will take some use to but the fit and finish is on the money. Three driving modes are a lot of fun. Handling is nice and tight my first electric power steering. It lives up to all the reviews pros and cons that Edmunds review states but drive it and you want to take it home right then and there. I got the Platinum White Pearl with Parchment interior and it’s one classy luxury SUV. Taking it for its first road trip soon and can’t wait to test out the driver assist cruise control.

My plea to corporate Acura for help

On 8/14/2021, the steering wheel on our RDX locked up for two whole seconds while going down a downhill pass. Emergency braking system failure chimed twice and flashed warning lights on the dash. Average speed on that stretch of road is 50-55 mph, so you can imagine the shock and adrenaline I felt. My wife in the passenger’s seat, equally scared. This could have been a severe or even fatal accident. Local Acura dealer found the system code, cleared the code, so I picked up the car. I reached out to corporate Acura Customer Relations and pleaded for a vehicle buy-back. I made it clear, that we did not feel safe, nor trusted the car to keep us safe, despite the dealer’s “fix.” I was told to wait 1-2 weeks for a response from a case manager. On my way home from work on 8/25/2021, same error code chimed again, steering wheel locked up while going through a major intersection. I reached out to corporate again the next day. I asked to be put on hold for a supervisor or case manager. The agent stated they weren’t available, but assured I would be contacted immediately. I kept asking to be put on hold, not wanting to end this second call without a resolution, but was hung up on. As of 8/30/2021, I am still waiting for their call-back. I hope others will never have to go through this situation, but I wanted to provide some true color to Acura’s customer relations department, especially to those considering a new Acura. Passenger safety is quite a low priority with Acura.

Just like my former model (2014 RDX), it will take a while to learn all the controls. After some training, I can generally operate the controls. BUT the owners manual is over 600 pages in length. Insane. PLUS I totally dislike the gps/nav system with the touch pad/voice control. I hate the touch pad as opposed to a touch screen or just manual selection by city/state. Much easier with the older selection method. Limited in flexibility when finding new names/addresses for destinations compared to the 2014 model.

Fantastic all-around car, from the ride, the drive, the luxury, the tech - it checks all the boxes for cheaper than the competitors. I absolutely love the car. Wife does too. Would buy it again in a second. 3 year update: we still absolutely love the car. Would recommend it to anyone.

We have a 2020 RDX and have had dash rattles from the onset. The dealer said push cardboard in the gaps to quiet them! I also think the blind spot warning should be in side mirror not on hard to notice part of door. We also had tech option series and still don’t have fog lights. Think twice before buying this much better out there with more intuitive controls.

After buying a brand new Acura - and it having all kinds of issues - this company - Honda/Acura treated me HORRIBLY. We had to take in the car four times and they wouldn't fix anything because they couldn't "duplicate" the problem. The car had 500 miles on it - why would I bring it in saying the brakes squeak and want them to fix it if they didn't?? Makes no sense. I spend hours and hours in the waiting room - driving a loaner - calling - it has been the worst car buying experience I have ever had the misfortune to experience. STAY CLEAR of the Honda company.

Little Brand Lost

Multi Honda and Acura owner over 3 decades, who bought (not leased) an RDX Tech 3 weeks ago and have already been back to dealer with what we've come to find out are known and unresolved problems with the vehicle. We had three GM SUV's prior to this, all without a single problem. The vehicle fails at luxury, at economy, and is poorly built. Road noise, tire roar, and suspension noise are louder than my pick-up truck. 17.7 MPG in mixed driving? The RDX demonstrates with is wrong with SUV's/CUV's, too many trade-offs to manage. Unfortunately, and contrary to almost every "professional" review, Acura misses the mark. We purchased based on years of familiarity with what Honda/Acura delivered as a brand, and reviews, but after 1000 miles it's clear they've all missed the mark and Acura have failed to deliver on the brand proposition. There are much better choices for at or less than the price of these vehicles.

We have owned our Acura RDX for three years now (purchased new) and the issues we have experienced are nowhere near what a high-quality luxury vehicle ownership should entail. (1) Rear hatch - both hinges replaced along with the hydraulic lift assist. (2) Front wheel bearing replaced. (3) Control arm replaced. (4) Brakes - all four pads and rotors replaced. (5) Waiting on parts to have the power steering unit replaced. We are approaching the end of our warranty period and my Acura dealer suggested we purchase a new RDX since Acura has fixed most the issues we have experienced!! There will be no fooling me twice in looking at another Acura vehicle.

Love everything about the car until my rear glass window shattered out of no where!!! It is definitely a defect in the glass used - says due to “thermal stress” on the glass but I have never had this happen to any of my Acura in 20+yrs until now! Quality has gone down.

Purchased a 2020 Acura RDX from Flow Acura in Wilmington NC. Love the look of the vehicle both inside and outside as well as the glass ceiling. Beautiful styling. Impressive technology that is user friendly. Responds well to voice commands. The seats are heated and exceptionally comfortable and the interior is spacious and beautiful. It is an SUV that drives like a sports car. Really fun to drive. Excellent ride. Extremely happy with my purchase. No problems at all. Would buy it again.

Pros - Looks are great, SH-AWD is great, engine is great. Body is very solid with no creaks. That's where the good stuff ends.. Cons - Stereo sounds okay, infotainment system is a total joke, leather feels cheap and do not wear well. Noise insulation needs alot of work. Transmission is ridiculously slow for up/down shifts and has no business being paired to this motor; because of this the teeny shift paddles are more toys than tools. Same with all of the so called safety tech including the lane keep assist, it's a joke and I consider it more dangerous than useful in practice. End of the day, it can only be classified as a luxury vehicle if you are upgrading from something like a CRV, RAV4, or lesser . If anyone owns a Lexus RDX, BMW X series, Mercedes GLE, or Infinity QX series, moving to this thing would be a noticeable step down. I've had a dozens of cars, and I have to say, this is probably the only one that I really don't like driving. It's dissappointing really as I expected better from Acura. Update: Finally turned it in after lease expiration and must say it’s one of the happiest days of my life. After having to pay for 2 brake flushes that the check engine light said I needed, navigation cpu having to be replaced, and entire gas tank having to be replaced due to a bad valve that prevented refills, I’m done with this vehicle.
