TORRANCE, California — The short production run of the Lexus LFA supercar is honored in a new YouTube video by Lexus.

"Although another LFA will never be produced, the materials, knowledge and techniques used in its creation will live on in future Lexus vehicles," said Toyota's upscale brand in a statement that accompanies the video.

The last Lexus LFA rolled off the assembly line in December 2012. A direct successor is not in the works.

Michael Kroll, a Lexus spokesman, told Edmunds in March that the Lexus LF-LC concept is currently under study as a possible production model.

Lexus unveiled the LF-LC hybrid sports car concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. An updated version, the LF-LC Blue concept, was introduced last fall at the 2012 Sydney Auto Show.

Lexus notes that the LFA project was nearly aborted on several occasions, but that the LFA finally saw the light of day with a $375,000 sticker price. Only 500 units were built.

The LFA was touted as the new flagship for Lexus performance models and described as "a supercar for the 21st century," by Lexus.

The rear-wheel-drive LFA is equipped with a 552-horsepower 4.8-liter V10 engine linked to a six-speed sequential transmission. It was built at Toyota's Motomachi plant in Japan.

Edmunds says: The YouTube video not only honors the Lexus LFA, it underscores the crying need for a halo car in the Lexus lineup.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the LFA but Toyota is really milking this cow to the point of absurdity.
