MOLSHEIM, France — The Bugatti Legend, a special edition of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, is the automaker's version of hero worship. It will debut at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

The Legend, the first of six special models, honors Jean-Pierre Wimille, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice for Bugatti. Wimille died in a car crash in 1949 in Buenos Aires.

The production run for the Bugatti Legend Jean-Pierre Wimille will be limited to three vehicles. Pricing has not been announced.

The first Bugatti Legend is patterned after Wimille's winning racecar, which featured a "racing blue finish." The special Vitesse gets blue clear-coated carbon fiber and a light Wimille Bleu exterior paint treatment.

The color scheme is repeated in the cabin.

The other five Legend editions will be launched over the next 12 months. The automaker said it is commemorating "the names that have shaped its history."

Edmunds says: A fitting tribute to man and machine, courtesy of Bugatti.
