NEW YORK The 2015 Kia Sedona, a redesigned version of the Korean minivan, will debut at the 2014 New York Auto Show.

A single teaser image of the minivan shows off a new sleek look with a longer hood.

"This global debut will challenge the segment and will offer the functionality to transport as many as eight passengers and their belongings while also serving as a purposeful offering for adventure seekers," said Kia Motors America in a statement on Thursday.

No other details were released. The 2015 Sedona is expected to go on sale in October in the U.S.

A key concern for consumers is whether Sedona will continue to be one of the value leaders in the segment. The base 2014 Kia Sedona LX starts at $26,795, including an $895 destination charge.

The Sedona competes with the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Honda Odyssey, Nissan Quest and Toyota Sienna minivans.

As reported earlier by Edmunds, this is the first major change for the Sedona since it was introduced in 2005. Industry watchers are expecting significant changes, including revisions to the chassis, engine, exterior and interior.

Edmunds says: A big question is whether Kia will target young families or empty nesters with the 2015 Sedona — or both.
