DEARBORN, Michigan The redesigned 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck starts at $26,615, including a $1,195 destination charge, reflecting a $395 price increase over the 2014 model.

The top-of-the-line 2015 Ford F-150 Platinum starts at $52,155, including shipping, reflecting a $3,055 price increase over the 2014 model.

Ford dealers in the U.S. begin taking orders on the 2015 F-150 today, with shipments arriving later this year. The trucks go into production in the third quarter of 2014.

Prices were provided to Edmunds by Mike Levine, a Ford spokesman. The 2015 F-150 vehicle configurator is not live yet.

The automaker has simplified the F-150 lineup for the new model year, paring the number of models down from 10 to five. The five 2015 models are the Ford F-150 XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum.

The 2015 Ford F-150 XLT starts at $31,890, including shipping, reflecting a $395 price increase.

The 2015 Ford F-150 Lariat starts at $39,880, including shipping, reflecting an $895 price increase.

The 2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch starts at $49,460, including shipping, reflecting a $3,615 price increase.

Gone from the lineup are model designations such as the F-150 STX, FX and Limited.

Levine would not say whether there will still be an SVT Raptor version of the 2015 F-150.

"No news or information on SVT Raptor today," he said.

The XL, XLT and Lariat models are expected to make up about 85 percent of 2015 F-150 sales, Levine said.

New standard equipment on the 2015 F-150 XL includes a telescoping steering wheel, two more stereo speakers, an integrated spotter mirror, driver's-side grab handle and a digital productivity screen in the center console.

New standard equipment on the 2015 King Ranch and Platinum includes a remote tailgate release, inflatable rear seatbelts, multi-contour seats with a massaging function, quad LED headlights and LED exterior lighting and an 8-inch screen in the center console.

Most 2015 F-150 models can be equipped with a Sport package or a Chrome package. Levine notes that a 2015 F-150 XLT with a Sport package is basically the equivalent of a 2014 F-150 FX model.

The new trucks feature aluminum body panels to save approximately 700 pounds to boost fuel economy.

Ford has not provided a fuel economy estimate on the 2015 F-150 and the EPA has not posted fuel economy numbers yet.

Edmunds says: Aluminum trucks are more expensive than steel trucks, but buyers should be happy with the relatively modest price increase on the base and midlevel 2015 F-150s. High-end buyers will get hit with much-higher price increases.

Interesting. I am quite happy with the changes to the Platinum. With LED lighting, real wood trim, premium interior lighting and massaging seats, I feel the platinum is worth the upgrade from a Lariat, as opposed to just paying for a badge.
