2014 Jeep Cherokee Starts at $23,990

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — The base 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport starts at $23,990, including a $995 destination charge, making it slightly more expensive than two of its chief rivals, the 2014 Ford Escape and the 2013 Honda CR-V. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee goes on sale in the third quarter of the year.

The top-of-the-line 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 4x4 starts at $30,490, including shipping.

Chrysler says "for comparison, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee's starting price is $400 less than the outgoing 2012 Jeep Liberty," which it replaces.

The Cherokee gets a segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission and fuel economy improvements of more than 45 percent versus the outgoing Liberty, according to Chrysler. The EPA has not yet posted official fuel-economy numbers on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

The base 2013 Honda CR-V LX starts at $23,625, including an $830 destination charge, according to Honda. Honda has not announced 2014 CR-V pricing.

The 2014 Ford Escape S starts at $23,595, including an $895 destination charge.

The 2014 Cherokee is available in four different trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee trim levels include a midrange 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x2 priced at $25,490, including shipping.

The base 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport includes a long list of standard equipment. Items include 10 airbags, LED taillights, cruise control and remote keyless entry. The base model is equipped with a 184-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.

The top-of-the-line 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk adds such standard items as a full-size spare tire, leather-wrapped shift knob and all-weather floor mats. A 271-hp 3.2-liter V6 engine is optional.

Edmunds says: The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is competitively priced, although not the value leader.
