NEW YORK — The base 2014 Infiniti Q50 starts at $37,355, including a $905 destination charge, reflecting an $870 price reduction compared to the outgoing 2013 Infiniti G37. Pricing was announced on Wednesday at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

The 2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan Journey starts at $38,225, including a $905 destination charge.

The Q50 replaces the G37 as Infiniti institutes a new naming strategy. The Q50 goes on sale this summer.

Customers who purchase a Q50 during a special introductory program period will receive a free iPad Mini.

Despite Infiniti touting a special "introductory" pre-order price on the Q50, the sedan is more expensive than two of its key competitors, the 2013 BMW 320i and the Mercedes-Benz C250.

The 2013 BMW 320i sedan starts at $33,445, including an $895 destination charge. The 2013 Mercedes-Benz C250 sedan starts at $36,255, including a $905 destination charge. The top-of-the-line 2014 Infiniti Q50 AWD starts at $45,655, including shipping.

The base 2014 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid Premium starts at $44,605, including shipping. The top-of-the-line 2014 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD starts at $48,805.

Edmunds says: Infiniti isn't the first automaker to use an Apple product as bait. The Hyundai Equus debuted with a free iPad in the glovebox.
