HOLLYWOOD, California — The Autobot Bumblebee will use a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro concept in Transformers 4, according to the Web site of director Michael Bay.

Bay called the Camaro concept "the final jewel in the Transformers 4 crown."

This latest reveal apparently puts an end to speculation that the movie franchise would use a retro 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS as the vehicle model for the Bumblebee character.

In the past, General Motors has credited the Transformers franchise with helping to introduce Camaro and the Chevrolet brand to a "whole new generation of fans." The company even offered a product link with the movie, offering a yellow 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro coupe to Bumblebee fans in the U.S., Canada, China, Japan, Europe, South America and the Middle East. It is not clear whether GM will roll out a new version of the Transformers Camaro.

The fifth-generation Camaro previously played Bumblebee in the 2007 film Transformers and in the 2009 film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

MichaelBay.com has been a required stop for Transformers fans, as the director rolls out special vehicles on a regular basis.

Most recently, a 2014 Freightliner Argosy cabover heavy-duty truck joined the ever-growing vehicle fleet in Transformers 4.

The over-the-road tractor, from Daimler Trucks North America, will join a custom-built Western Star, which will serve as the revamped Optimus Prime. Both vehicles are built by Daimler Trucks North America.

The vehicle cast for the movie includes a 2013 Pagani Huayra, a 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and a military truck from Oshkosh Defense that will serve as the Autobot character Hound.

Transformers 4 is expected to be released on June 27, 2014, according to Paramount. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer.

Edmunds says: Expect the newest version of Bumblebee to create a major buzz.
