DETROIT — The keys to 2013 SRT Viper #001 were presented to owner Scott Thomas, president of an Oklahoma tooling company, during a ceremony at Detroit's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant on Thursday.

Thomas, 40, purchased the first production Viper for $300,000 at a Barrett-Jackson auction last year with proceeds benefiting the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. The 2013 SRT Viper starts at $99,390, including a $1,995 destination charge.

"Viper is Chrysler," said Chrysler Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne, during the ceremony.

Shipments of the handcrafted 2013 SRT Viper will begin in February.

The ceremony included the unveiling of a plaque with a quote from Dan Knott, the late Chrysler Group senior vice president who championed the Viper. It read: "Today, we are a real car company again."

Edmunds says: The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette may own the upcoming 2013 Detroit Auto Show, but Chrysler enjoyed a special moment on Thursday courtesy of the 2013 SRT Viper.
