DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling approximately 13,100 2013 Ford Explorer, Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles because the child-safety locks on the rear doors may be defective, the company told Edmunds on Friday.

No accidents or injuries have been linked to the recall, according to Kelli Felker, a Ford spokeswoman.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S., has not posted any information about the Ford recall on its Web site.

"(The) rear door latches may contain an improperly formed component," wrote Felker in an e-mailed message. "This condition may allow the child-safety lock to change from activated to deactivated without input from the driver during normal door open/close cycles."

The affected vehicles were built from November 29, 2012 through December 12, 2012 at Ford's Chicago Assembly Plant. The majority of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S.

The recall is expected to begin on August 5.

Dealers will test the rear child safety locks and replace the latch assembly, if necessary. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Edmunds says: Ford is advising owners of the affected vehicles to set the child lock for each drive if they need to use that feature before the recall begins. Instructions on how to set the lock can be found in the owner's manual.
