WASHINGTON — Volkswagen Group of America is recalling approximately 3,594 2013-'14 Audi S6 and S7 cars in the U.S. because a fuel line leak may result in a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"Due to manufacturing tolerance issues, a fuel line may leak," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire."

The affected cars are equipped with the 4.0-liter TFSI engine. The cars were built from June 25, 2012 to May 29, 2013 and from May 23, 2013 to September 6, 2013.

In April 2013, Audi AG received customer complaints about a fuel smell in the affected vehicles. After an investigation, the automaker determined that the fuel line in the vehicles could become damaged over time.

Audi dealers will replace the fuel line. The recall is expected to begin in late October. Owners can contact Audi of America at 1-800-822-2834.

Edmunds says: Audi says the recall will begin "pending parts availability." But if you own one of these cars and smell fuel, get it into your dealership immediately.
