What is the Q7?
The 2024 Audi Q7 is a three-row luxury SUV, arguably one of the most competitive classes of vehicles out there. The original Q7 was one of the first luxury three-rows around, offering more space for people than most luxury vehicles at the time. Plenty of others have followed in its wake, with just about every luxury automaker offering their own take on the formula. Audi itself has expanded its own offerings with a full lineup of SUVs, from the compact Q3 to the all-electric e-tron, though the Q7 remains the company's only three-row model. Audi also offers the sportier V8-powered SQ7, though we review that model separately.
The second-generation Q7 made its debut back in 2017, and we were immediately impressed. Audi nailed things like build quality, ride comfort, driving dynamics and in-car tech. Those positive traits still shine through today, which is why it's one of Edmunds' favorites. 2017 feels like eons ago when it comes to the lifecycle of a car, but rolling updates and improvements over the years like additional standard features and more powerful engines have kept the Q7 feeling competitive. Audi hasn't announced anything official, but we don't expect any major changes for 2024. That said, given its age, the debut of a redesigned Q7 isn't out of the question.
These days, there are plenty of three-row SUVs to choose from. The Q7 is on the smaller side for a three-row. While that makes it easy to park and maneuver on the street, it does mean there's less space for people and cargo inside. Similarly sized three-rows include the Acura MDX, Lincoln Aviator and Land Rover Discovery. If you need more space, there's the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade, all well worth a look. And if you don't need the third row, the Audi Q8 offers a lot of the Q7's pros in a sleeker, somewhat sportier package.
