Great Value

I considered and test drove the Lexus GS300, Acura Rl, the Infiniti G45 as well as the Volvo S80. Safety, price, reliability, driving fun, ease of handling, comfort, gas mileage, power and visibility were my criteria. The Volvo s60 beat all the others hands down.

After 11 years & 95K miles, it's still a good car

This has been a good car. I wanted something fast and safe mountain roads; and the T5 fits the bill. It's large, but handles curves well and has significant torque. The torque steer is pronounced though, and can be unnerving if you don't expect it. (Most front-wheel drive cars don't have torque steer because they don't have a much horse power as the T5 does.) There is ample room up front for large adults, but the back seat is only suitable for children. The cruise control and volume buttons are in a place on the wheel that is prone for accidental engagement. The seats are comfortable and it's been reliable compared to the German offerings. I will gladly sacrifice the better speed and handling of Mercedes, BMW and Audi for Volvo's better reliability. However, Volvo has been purchased by a Chinese company so the reliability of future models may differ. I've had some problems in 11 years though: the rubber trim around the windshield is VERY substandard. It's brittle, cracked, breaks off and now looks very bad. The turbo charge air hose bursts in the exact same place every 30k miles, disabling the car. The lumbar adjustment has broken, as has the power window, door handle. Not bad for a decade of use.

Couldn't be happier

I have owned my S60 for three months, and have 2,400 miles on it. The car has performed perfectly, with no flaws mechanically or in its worksmanship. I enjoy the interior comfort, and the turbocharged engine, which really jumps when you punch the pedal. I get about 21 mpg in town, and 29 mpg on the open road. The car is agile on the road, feels firm, and gives a smooth ride. To me, it's a much better car and value than competitors at Acura, BMW and Lexus.

My parents have owned Volvos for the past 20 years and have never had a problem. So when it was my turn to 'move up in the car world' I was excited with how far Volvo has come in design! I looked at Acura and Mercedes and just melted into Volvo's seats. After going to our regular Volvo dealer, I was sold, at 8:45 at night! I am extremely satisfied with my decision. I was actually originally looking into the S40, however with the financing/leasing deals for the S60, it turned out to be a better deal...and more room in the car!
