Those darn Swedes (build great cars!)
We purchased our 745 turbo wagon used 10 yrs & 180000 miles ago. "Sweddie" now has 235000+ miles & shows no sign of fatigue. Motor is still strong, burns <.5 pint of oil every 5K miles. I bought my wife a newer (1993 945 t) Volvo, but she loves this '90 too much! This is without a doubt the best, most dependable car we have ever owned. We now have three Volvos-the 740 and 940 are some of the best rear-wheel Volvos ever built. We are striving for our 300K mile badge and maybe more! Too bad the new Volvos have slipped a bit in reliability. Perhaps the new "R" model will be a turning point...we'll see! TQ
I had only liked the way it looked !
I had seen this car at a dealership off to the side of the road and I liked the way it had looked from a distance, that is to say for an older car. I thought that would be nice for a run a round town car. What a perfect value. The older Volvo wagon in "my opinion" is in every way comparable to my 2000 BMW 528it wagon . Performace, handling, and build quality are unsurpassed in the older Volvo 745 turbo Wagon. I would highly recomend to anyone looking for a cheap reliable run around car, pick up a Volvo Wagon! Besides the older the car the more sophisticated one might look for valuing a dollar, as we should!
Solid and owes me nothing
This car has been a solid and enjoyable experience. Over 230,000 miles over 13 years and while not sexy or sleek or speedy, it has been reliable and safe. We have grown with and through the third row seat with our kids.
Volvo 740 wagon
Tank-like driveability. Solid. Safe. Secure. Practicality and roominess like no other. Outstanding quality. Absolutley no rust anywhere. 336,000 km and still going. Owning these cars is likea cult - you develop great attachment.
The Perfect Car...Almost!
This 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon was purchased with 138,000 miles on it. It's definitely the most reliable car my mother has ever bought. The car now has about 180,000 miles on it as of 12/3/02 and it still is incredibly reliable and runs great! The only work done to it is: replacement of both front and rear windshield wiper motors, alternator, gaskets and seals on the engine and transmission. A super reliable car! This car is quick too...0-60 in 8 seconds. Did I mention, you can easily get one of these car for CHEAPER than a Honda or Toyota?
