Used 2005 Volkswagen Touareg Consumer Reviews
great vehichle
this a great fun to drive suv,the fetures this suv has are awsome, this car is made for a person that loves to drive, but bring your gas card, the fuel mileage is less than desirable for a vw
Great vehicle-lousy on gas
Maybe due to weight (5700 lbs.) and AWD, the gas mileage is closer to 10 city/15 highway. Smooth ride with comfortable seats. Fair amount of cargo space. Rolling control on steering wheel for information display can be confusing to use.

2005 Volkswagen Touareg V6 AWD
My 2005 Volkswagen Touareg V6 AWD is fun to drive and has excellent handling. It is beautifully engineered. The rain-sensing wipers are a very poor idea though. The computerized comfort options are good, but the computer often resets itself with its own ideas. The only reason I would not buy another one is the high cost of routine VW dealer maintenance.
Volkswagen vs. Ferrari
I had a truly amazing experience with the VW Touareg. I own two Ferrari 360 Spyders and I still love my Touareg's performance and comfort. I am a huge off-roader and the Touareg handles like a soft carpet throughout the toughest of terrains (e.g. Swiss Alps Ugust 2005). However, I also love to race on tracks and I raced a Toureg against its "cousin", the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and I ended up winning topping out over 175 mph.
Sad owner
I had no idea it would eat tires every year! Gas mileage was known, but gas wasn't $4.50 at the time. It's been in the shop so much, my wife wants me to sell it now! Service sucks, they can't order the correct parts half the time so we have to go back multiple times for stupid stuff. I will NEVER buy another VW again. I tried, and it was a failure. They say the car is 'heavy' and that's why it eats tires. B.S. My dad has a huge van loaded with his contractor stuff (much heavier than the Touareg) and he gets 30k miles no problem. I think it's the 4WD system chewing up the tires. I'm actively looking at a replacement even though it will cost me $. I like to keep cars 12+ years but not this time
Just what I wanted
When I saw Touareg first time on a car show, I knew that I would own it. I fell in love with it right away. Although I knew that I should wait a year or two before buying just to see that all the minor problems/defects and recalls will be fixed. So in 2005 finally got it. My choice was a V-6 with package 5, which includes all options, such as air suspension, navigation, etc. Exterior color is black, interior is beige. So after 1 1/2 years and 30K miles I still enjoy every minute I spend driving it. The only downside - fuel economy. Even for V-6 and a large gas tank, you will spend quite a bit of money on gas. Other then that it is perfect car. My wife has a VW as well and loves it too.
Always fun to drive
Touareg is really fun to drive. I do not drive very much nor do I require extreme performance and Touareg seems to fit my profile extremely well. I want a reliable drive in snow and Touareg is awesome in that respect. I have read about lots of issues on lower VIN Touaregs, but the only problem (which was easily fixed) was fast running clock. So if you are in the market for these I would recommend higher than 65k VIN as I have very positive experience.
The annoying stuff...
The V6 is underpowered, but performs well for a vehicle this weight. Smooth ride and excellent handling. After 40k miles in one year, thankfully, no maintenance nightmares. Only annoying stuff that keeps you coming back to the dealership - tire pressure sensors always going out, allignment issues, and way too many recalls. Dealership (Boardwalk VW, Dallas) has an excellent service dept, highly recommended for those in DFW area. Not as well built as some suggest, a couple of creaks in dash. After reading other reviews, I would also be very upset about the reliability of this vehicle for the price paid, but overall a good experience here.
Volkswagen Touareg V6
The Volkswagen Touareg is a great SUV, an example of this is when I went off-roading with this bad boy. Another great feature that I like is the Tire Pressure Monitior since you can actually check out the pressure of all 4 tires. Also I recently got a trialer hitch attached to my Touareg which can tow up 7,500 pounds. In my opinion I should've gotten the V8 since it gives the brawny power of the German cars today, even though the fuel economy would deterioate
Volkswagon Touareg
This is my fourth Volkswagon I have owned. I find that Volkswagons are quality built, safe cars. The only negative I have with the Touareg is the mpg. Other than that I love the Touareg.
