Used 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Consumer Reviews
Some of these reviews are like looking in a mirror
If at all you are on the fence about this car, hope off the fence and go in another direction. Up until about 82,000 this car was great, some minor interior wear and tear, but I attributed that to having kids. Well in on year, I have replaced my lights four or more times, my intake manifold and pumps have been replaced, and my entire door latch system has been changed on the drives side door. In all, this year alone this car has cost me over 3000. I am floored. When I had a note on this car, I did not even spend that in total. Every day I now get in the car and pray no dash lights come on, and the car just drives. Owning this car is pushing me to begin looking for another car, and definitely not another VW. I feel this car is made of glorified plastic. I see VW on the road from the late '80's and early '90's. I am so dismayed as to why my vehicle isn't hanging on. Had I been given just a glimpse into the future with this car, I would have chosen a Toyota or a Honda.

At 115,000 miles ... still hanging in there
I wrote a pretty unfavorable review over a year ago... and still have very mixed feelings about this car. It continues to be fun to drive, and fits my driving profile really well... a good high speed performer on the highway and a great city car too. Reasonable comfort and cargo carrying flexibility. But, maintenance costs are high... in the past year, I've done a preventative replacement of the timing chain and tensioner, replaced fuel injectors, had carbon cleaned out of the engine, replaced leaking rear oil seal, re-worked the brakes and fixed some minor things. This totaled about $5,000. on top of earlier water pump, cooling fans, intake manifold, and more. I love to put at least 150,000 miles on my cars, and I still hope to reach this goal... but I'm also very close to giving up on this car. My next one will likely be a Toyota, Subaru, or maybe a Volvo... based on much better reliability experience with these brands.

An SUV with good fuel economy?
I have been driving a Tiguan for a little over a week now and it rocks. Very versatile, tons of room for people and luggage. The panoramic sunroof is superb this car was really worth the wait and I am get just on 30 mpg! Get one!
Fun to Drive
On the day of the 2nd anniversary of buying this car I turned over 72,000 miles - so we have had a lot of experience with this car. This car is fun to drive and the sunroof is great! The Tiguan displays a lot of info on the dash and every month there is something that needs to be serviced or looked at. If you take the car to anyone other than the dealership then the warning light will not be reset. You will still have to go to the dealership or it will bing at you every time you start the car and the warning light will be on. Most of the bells and warning lights are annoying and not major defects. Due to the constant high maintenance on this car - I will not purchase another VW.
