Pleasing Passat Performance...
I needed and affordable sedan with good room for kids and extended family and looked at Accord,Mazda 6,Fusion and Passat. I also was shopping for a real discount beyond True-Car prices the decision was then left to 2 choices..Accord/Passat. I drove both Accord Sport/EX and Passat Wolfsburg/SE w/roof and noticed that the Passat was a bit quieter on the road and offered a nicer stereo Hwy ride than the Accord. I also has read about the CVT shudder and didn't want to have to deal that as a potential issue. When making a final decision I found VW was more aggressive with incentives of about $4000, rates of 0-1% and more for my trade.. Part 2...The Passat continues to give trouble free performance. the average mpg went up 29.2. Quiet,roomy and controlled it proves move often than not it is a people pleaser. Friends now understand my reason for purchase...I would without reservation recommend a Passat 1.8T to others.. It does so many things so very well.

Fahrvergnugen! Driving enjoyment! 3 year update
I sampled quite a few --Accord, Camry, Mazda6, Fusion, Sonata, etc. The Passat felt the most tuned in. I love the torque curve that kicks in a very low rpms. Up-shifts come quickly, which makes the Passat seem like it has long legs. I'm getting nearly 30 mpg in town. It really favors soft-pedalling the gas, but has plenty of juice when needed. Handling is excellent. Seats are comfortable. No squeaks or rattles. Soaks up bumps smoothly. Overall build quality seems to be right on. No USB port?!, so I bought a dual outlet converter. The Bluetooth works very well. Plenty of room. Stickered for $27,500, I paid $24,200, plus 0.9% financing. 2 years later...I still like it. It's my daily commuter, three miles each way. I taken a couple of long trips of 2000 miles and it did fine...not luxurious, but adequately comfortable. Depending of the weather, I've gotten up to 39 mpg on the highway. I still like the engine and its excellent torque at low rpm. Acceleration is good. No squeaks or rattles. Takes bumps smoothly. The huge rear seat has been a plus. The transmission, as noted elsewhere, seems unsophisticated at low speeds. The VW-link systems was replaced under warranty. Other than that, only routine maintenance. Bear in mind, this is not an upscale car. It cost $24k brand new. For that money, it has been a good buy and a nice handling car. 3 years in and I traded it. I was just ready for something new. I did think the roughness of the transmission at low speed was becoming more of an issue and it was becoming annoying. If VW fixes this issue, I'd be OK with buying it again. Re-reading my earlier perceptions and my long list of things I liked make me miss it.

Best car for the Money
What I love about his car is the Turbo engine. Plenty of power when you need it and excellent fuel economy as well. I love the way the car drives. German engineered cars are just fun to drive period. The seats are comfortable and the Cabin is extremely roomy. I just love the way the interior is laid out. The best thing about this car is the price. I paid around 26k for an SE and I feel like I got a ton of car for the money. I just don't think there is a better deal out there.

Bigger is Better...
Being in the market for a mid-size family car in the most competitive segment, I found the Passat quite a balanced choice. The combination of performance and spaciousness is very accommodating. The 1.8 Turbo breaths smoothly and effortless, marking a significant difference, especially when your weekend driving involves a few mountain ranges (which will surprise some V8 drivers out there). The six-speed automatic shifts seamlessly (almost as a CVT without the retrofitting side-effect). Power is always available thanks to the engine's low end torque. In fewer words, I just love the driving dynamics of the Passat regardless of the package you choose.
Fun Drive
We were considering a change from the 2012 F-150 we had for improved gas mileage, but traded in a 2012 Camary also. We are super impressed w/ our new fun, economical drives! Hers is a '14 SE TSI & mine a '14 Wolfsburg TSI. We both average around 30-32 mpg on city & highway. We live 25 miles out from town where the cars were purchased & my work, so both now have 17,000+ miles on them since June 30, 2014, when they were purchased. All are part of a VW heritage started in the 1980s w/ a 1964 Beetle. We since have had a 1986 Cabrio, a 1999 Jetta TDI and a 2004 Passat TDI. All have been fun & reliable, but these 2 Passats top them all!
Decent Basic Transportation
Writing this review after 5 days. Got base 2014 with only 8k miles on it. Great deal! So far, runs great. Turbo kicks in nicely when accelerating. Trans takes getting used to as "D" wants lower gears to save gas, but "S" runs more like a traditional trans. Son says back seat has more room than Honda (I traded in a 2002 Accord). Decent stereo..rides nice and is quiet. **Update 10 months later: Still going well, but commercial carwash snapped passenger side-view mirror. Manual does NOT say to avoid commercial carwashes and VW considers this defect to be non-warranty covered as it was an "act of nature." A bunch of BS, if you ask me. So, I've been taking it to touch-less carwash, which does not clean as well (I do it myself in summer, but it needs washing in winter due to salt, etc.). Kind of junky customer service..who doesn't make a car that can handle a dang car wash?? **Update as of 1/11/17: Mileage is a plus..drove 2 hours this past summer at 70mph with a/c on..got 37mpg! As it is winter now..I don't like traction control, but that may not necessarily be a VW thing. Still slow to warm up in winter, but a/c does great job. Folding side mirrors in before carwash resolved problem..touchless car washes weren't getting job done! Overall, very satisfied. **Update on 7/12/17: Drove to Chattanooga from Detroit (600 miles freeway) with no a/c on and got 42mpg. Then, drove from Chattanooga to Port St. Lucie, FL (another 600 miles freeway) with the a/c on and got 39mpg!! Great mileage. Turbo blew at 50k miles, but I had extended warranty, so got new one. Just odd that VW warranty is less than others. Kind of "lemon-y" to have a turbo blow that early. Overall, car is "meh."

4 Time Passat Offender
I have many years and miles of Volkswagen ownership under my belt. I simply like the feel behind the wheel of the Volkswagens; firm ride, tight cornering and firm comfortable seats. My experience with the brand is nearly 100% positive. I do take an interest understanding key maintenance issues as recommended by my independent VW mechanic. Keys to successful ownership include using synthetic oil, Top Tier gas brands and ethanol free fuel if you are really committed. The Passat 1.8 TSI engine coupled with the smooth shifting 6 speed automatic transmission is an impressive combination. The engines ability to hit pick torque at very low RPM's got me over my believe I would never settle for anything less than a V6 engine. The 1.8 TSI engine delivers brisk acceleration and excellent gas mileage. The option to manually shift plus the sport mode give the extra driver engagement I enjoy in the brand. In suburban driving I average around 28 MPG. I have gone as high as 39 MPG on an 800 mile freeway trip with cruise set between 70 and 80 MPH. One observation is that at 45 miles per hour the transmission goes into 6th gear taking the engine down to 1200 RPM. This low engine speed can cause the engine to lug. I generally do not worry about it. An option to avoid the lugging is to run in sport mode if you are spending a good deal of time at 45 MPH. I love the subtle look of the spacious interior. I like the classy exterior but I find it a little boring. I am not the type who craves extra attention. The Wolfsburg addition is the second least equipped version of the Passat but it has the modern essentials including heated faux leather driver and passenger seats (power seat for the driver) and steering wheel controls for the radio. I love Volkswagen's trip computer system. Those who desire more electronic engagement in their cars will find the radio system inadequate at least in Wolfsburg addition. Stepping up to the SE level solves some of the short coming with the electronics like a navigation option and backup camera. Had I been able to find a nice deal on an SE, I would have stepped up to the next level. One other note, the Hankook tires that came from the factory are a poor option. I expect when I switch to my preferred brand (Toyo), the ride, handling and cabin noise will be even better.

Loving my passat
Just purchased the Wolfsburg edition and I am absolutely loving it. Great handling and good power. I am also averaging about 28 mpg in mix driving. I'm sure it will improve as it breaks in. I love the interior. It simple but elegant. Fantastic value as I purchased it during the $1000 turbo rebate promo.
Room to spare in a quality affordable Sedan.
My '14 Passat is a real nice car that actually is quite simple to operate. Interior design is classic and the exterior may seam a bit boring at first, but at different angles the cars exterior lines show the true elegance of the car. I paid 18,700 for the 21,900 sticker car and got 0% financing to boot. So for the price of a focus or corolla I was able to get a sweet Passat that is extremely roomy and just as efficient as those two cars.
"Where excitement goes to die." Really?
My love of cars has spanned a fair number of years and over two dozen cars. This is my second VW. I traded in a 2008 BMW 535xi Sport for this car, which had replaced a beloved 2002 Audi A6 2.7T. The Passat has reminded me of the many reasons I am a fan of VW Group cars. I was concerned that the transition out of the driving experience of the BMW would be rough, but I was wrong. The Passat is comfortable, spacious, well-appointed, reasonably quick, and sneers at gas pumps (I drove from NJ to Boston and back on one tank of regular fuel). It is not going to win stoplight drag races or autocross rallies, but as a large family sedan, it's really tough to beat. Glad I ignored the naysayers!
S to Wolfsburg Edition
Had an S in Blue, damaged, not convinced fixed right, traded for this. Opera Red, Cornsilk leatherette interior. Beautiful car. Very much a Volkswagen. Elegant, but tough. Understated. A machine. Awesome on the highway. Like the new 1.8l turbo. Had a 2.5l inline five on a 2010 Golf. I thought it was more than enough engine for that car, decent gas milage, but this is better.

Budget luxury
Overall, is a very good car, it has all options you may expect for that age, of course no Apple car play. But speaking about all, really worth it. Plus a very fair driving experience. Amazing freezing cold AC, amazing braking efficiency, good lights, lovely interior, very specious for all passengers and huge trunk space, gas mileage still good even with this 5 cylinders engine, around 25-27 MPG I own it for one year now with few issues happened as follows 1- Front stabilizing bar, this is squeaking in high pumps but not in normal driving conditions, and I just don’t have the time to change it. 2- Throttle body, that had switched the EPC light only and made the car dragging, I got from Amazon with 90 $ and car works perfectly Other than these only oil and battery change. It seems to be a lot a car that has 72000 miles on it, but I also consider the age of the vehicle which almost 9 years old. Overall, it was a good choice.

Still Going Great!
I purchased my 2014 Passat Wolfsburg (Reflex Silver) with the 1.8L turbo, in December 2014, as a CPO with 9,000 miles on the clock. I still have it with just over 160,000 miles. So far, it has held up well with only a few of issues. I changed the alternator at 125k miles and the radiator at 135k miles, both of which I did myself. I'm on my third battery, and I had to change the low beams mounting sockets with OEM parts. The car was on for a couple of recalls concerning the Takata airbag, the airbag inflator, and for a reprogram of the transmission to prevent stalling while in gear at idle (I did not experience this issue). New Pirelli tires were mounted at 159k miles and they helped to reduce the amount of road noise coming into the cabin. I have been changing the engine oil every 5k miles. This car has a conventional automatic transmission, with a torque converter (not a DSG), and the fluid and filter have been changed every 40k miles. The car still it's original struts and shocks . I changed the original front brakes at 145k miles. A couple of lights needed to be replaced and the headlight low beams (halogen) are weak out in the country. The seat warmers recently stopped working, but I haven't missed them. The 1.8 turbo has good pickup and returns about 33 MPG, which consists of a mix of highway, rural and suburban driving. Under these conditions I can get almost 600 miles from one tank of gas. if I get caught in heavy traffic, my mileage will go down to about 25 MPG. My Passat has 17" wheels, rides and handles well, and allows me to get a little frisky when I'm in the mountains. Just bear in mind this is no large size GTI in stock form, so when pushed hard, it loses its composure in the turns. There is not a lot of feedback though the steering wheel and the brakes are good, but not great. Road noise on rough pavement is annoying, but otherwise, its fairly quiet. The driver's seat is comfortable, but it took me a lot of adjustment before I found the sweet spot. The driver's seat is slightly offset from the steering wheel, but it doesn't bother me. The stock stereo sounds good for being a base unit. My Passat is basic; no nav, backup camera, touchscreen, or any of the latest safety features. Less things to break, I figure. Back seat room is great and the trunk is large, but the hinges for the trunk lid eat into the cargo space. Overall, I have had a good experience with my Passat and intend to drive as long as possible. As previously mentioned, my issues with it have been minor. I have been able to do most of the maintenance myself (except changing the transmission fluid; it's a pain). Some recommendations: -Find a mechanic who specializes in VWs and avoid the dealership for service, if possible. Bear in mind, quotes for even minor repairs are high. -Change the engine oil at 5k miles/6 months, no matter what VW says. The combination of direct injection, a turbo, automatic transmission, A/C, and in my case, hot, humid weather are a lot for the engine oil to deal with. -Change the transmission fluid & filter no later than 50k miles, otherwise shift issues may appear. -Use Top Tier gas, when feasible, and add fuel injection cleaner every oil change. -Wash this car by hand, or use a touchless car wash, as the gas filler door and the mirrors are a little weak. -Buy seat covers for a Passat with the gray or beige leatherette, because dye from jeans or leather jackets will transfer onto them.

MY 2014 Passat TSI SE Experience
I got my 2014 Passat TSI SE in October 2013 and I like the car for its driving performance with excellent fuel efficiency. I get up to 36 highway MPG and for my commuting route I get 33 MPG. I noticed I get the best MPG when my speed is between 45 and 75 MPH. I have 7000 miles on my car and lifetime MPG is 31 MPG. On my commuting route when I drive 2007 or 2010 4 cylinder Camry I only get 27 MPG. I like the music system design that produce clear sound without a need significantly increase audio level while on the noisy highway. I have driven Passat competitor vehicle and noticed high wind noise that makes it hard to listen to music.

I bought a 2014 Passat Sport edition. Smoke was billowing from the engine within the first two weeks after purchase with six miles on the odometer. After several (3 to 4) recalls on the transmission, Bluetooth issues, many hours at their service center and an attorney, the car was finally re-purchased by VW and then re-sold at auction. I had to pay an additional several thousand to get out from the loan and legal fees. I would not purchase a VW again, and I wouldn't recommend anyone buying one. Buying a car is one of the biggest investments you make so make sure to invest in a brand that stands behind their product.

We were looking for a car that had an upscale feel and appearance without the upscale cost. We were also looking for a car that was fuel efficient and did not want a hybrid. The 2014 VW Passat Wolfsburg met most of our criteria. It looks great and handles well on all types of driving conditions. The 1.8 turbocharged four cylinder engine gets decent MPG but feels a little underpowered. However, it is quick enough to safely merge onto highways with adequate power for most situations. My wife and I really love this car and would recommend it to others.
Great Family Sedan
I put on about 21,000 miles on a Passat S auto. The overall quality is gone down quite a bit from my 99 Passat GL V6 that I had before but the my is the lowest trim model with cloth seats; the upper trim are better. The car is now manufactured in Tennessee instead of Germany. So far I have not encountered any problems. The car rides very comfortably except the bottom seat cushion is kind of hard. The fuel economy is very good and you also get a large gas tank. I get around 30 MPG city and 40+ on the freeway. You can get 45 MPG if set on cruise control @ 60-65 MPH. The engine has very good low end torque with almost no turbo lag. I had a Neuspeed Power Module plugged into the ecu wiring hardness and the torque was increased substantially from 1800 RPM up without any issues. Handling is adequate but not spectacular. The Hankook tires have limited grip and don't agree with some of the freeway grooves which it wonders a bit but it's getting better as they were down. The maintenance is covered by the manufacturer for the first 3 years. I got a very good lease program (around >$4K below MSRP). Great value and a solid choice as a family car.

My first VW - 2014 Passat 1.8L T
I have test drove several used or certified VW vehicles in last month (Passat diesel 2.0L, Passat 2.5 L Manual, Passat 2.5L Auto, and Jetta 2.5 L Auto). I was able to test drive the 1.8L Turbo automatic - and I was sold as soon has I hit the gas pedal. It has great acceleration. After my first week of driving I was able to drive +400 miles for city and some highway driving. I filled up with 1/4 tank of gas and it cost me less than $24.00. The electronics (cluster, radio, and Hvac are decent). I picked the VW becuase of the simple styling. I chose the Passat over the Jetta due to additional space. I am very happy with my purchase. I hope to be a VW consumer for a long time. :)

One of the Best Buys for the Money!!
The car gets great gas mileage. I get around 37 on the highway. The car is fun to drive and has good acceleration. I've owned the car almost 3 years now and have never had an issue. I think it's the best value out there. The car is big. Big back seat, Big trunk. Great car for taller drivers too!

100k miles
After 100,000 miles on mine I can report that the only maintenance and repair visits have been: 10 oil changes, 1 set of tires. Everything else including brakes is original. While the design is dumbed-down and softened from the Euro-spec version, is very boring, and is what VW interprets as "what Americans want", I am just thankful they didn't put a bench seat and column shifter on the thing. The 4-cyl. 1.8 turbo motor is very efficient, if not very exciting. Avg. 37-39 mpg on the highway, and I have once achieved 41 mpg average on a 500+ mile trip. Transmission prefers to upshift early and hold higher gears which is a little annoying when you are in a hurry. But for the purposes of A-to-B driving with passengers, it is a nice place to be, if not a nicer place to ride as a passenger in the humongous rear seat. I'll give it 4 stars. If VW could just channel some more Audi into the visual design, I'm sure it would sell even more of these.

Update: 2023: Have now owned this for 9 years. Running good. No real issues. 122000 miles. I cruise in this car, only speeding up to pass and go around very slow vehicles. Turbo gives it very good burst. Good used car buy, if maintained and driven right. I bought the Wolfsburg edition. I've had this car for over 5 years now. It has been very reliable. The gas door actuator, the little switch that clicks the gas door open from the key fob, recently went. Bought it on online for about $30 and had a mechanic put it on. Aside from that, I've only had to do oil changes and some new tires. The Passat is a commuter car. It's not meant for a lot of stop and start at higher speeds. I have the Wolfsburg edition which has turbo so you have plenty of zip to pass and get on the highway quickly. A lot of stopping and starting at higher speeds will cause transmission issues. It's meant for commuting in the middle or slower lane on the highway. Take it easy with this car and it will take it easy on your wallet!

Third Volkswagon purchase is not the charm
My Passat has 86,000 miles and continues to stall while stopped at red light, turning or any idle speed. Dealerships have not been able to find a reason, however, each time I take vehicle in for inspection it is out of oil. I have maintained vehicle and at this time engine is being replaced and fuel pump was replaced last month. I fear that vehicle will still continue to stall when in idle even though dealer now says it is the engine that needs to be replaced. This started May 2020 I took to dealer and they could not find issues except with oil. In November I took to a different certified dealer due to same recurring problems and they say it is engine and fuel pump. EPC light and battery light continue to come on as well. This is my third VW and I have had no issues with my previous vehicles. Dealers will not admit that the car is faulty and that VW has series issues that need to be addressed with the 2014 model.

As good as a BMW - but half the price
I am used to driving BMW's and Jaguars for the last 25 years. I bought this car after having a Jetta for a year and I loved it but wanted a bigger, heavier car with more bells and whistles so I traded it for this PASSAT. I LOVE THIS CAR! I am tall and long legged and It's extremely comfortable, has all I could ask for except leather and a sunroof, but with rear camera, bluetooth, MP3 and iPod, heated seats and it performs beautifully and extremely reliably EVERY DAY and gets great gas mileage and needs NOTHING and the warranty and included service at the dealerships are great. This car just works flawlessly and is a great performer on the road. It's never needed to go into the dealership for anything except scheduled maintenance and I have several dealerships to go to and they are all EXCELLENT AND TAKE FANTASTIC CARE OF YOU. Update: My car was subject to the Takara airbag recall. 11 deaths and hundreds of severe injuries as metal schrapnel could explode into your neck or face. VW said 6 - 9 months wait for replacements. I was NOT going to allow myself to be the next death or injury. VW would not take my car in on trade on a brand new. Tried emailing the VW CEO in Europe for a solution - none offered. I traded it in at the local BMW dealership for a preowned 328i and very happy. VW is a great car but I was not going to drive a death trap and they offered no help.

Most Reliable Vehicle
I have owned my 2014 Passat for almost two years. I took a step down from the CC which I miss very much and the only reason for some 4 stars is comparing to the CC in performance which is to be expected as the CC is a high performance vehicle. I have had no problems with the Passat. It is the utmost reliable vehicle I have ever owned and for that reason, I am holding onto her. I am a high mileage driver and plan to keep her for at least 100K although the VW's are strong vehicles that I know they go way over 100K (I should have kept my CC as I was spoilt with performance but at 100k, I chicken a little bit as a single parent. My highest recommendations go to the Passat on looks, reliability and price.

Typical VW. No response to help or to reach out.
I have owned 5 VW's in the past and this is my 6th and the last! Right from the start the back window had to be replaced because it was warped, bubbled and defective. Over a week in the shop. The Fender sound system is great but the top bar under the windshield cracks and rattles detracting from the sound. 3x times trying to fix that. The suspension crashes and bangs over bumps - going in for the fourth time to fix that! And, now the steering rack and column was defective - 13 days in the shop! And, what's up with styrofoam foam under the front passenger seat, foam packing in the trunk hinges?? Numerous rattles and creaks from the interior. What happened VW? Extremely disappointed. Stay away

Best Christmas suprise ever!
The only reason I didn't score a 5 on the "Fun to drive" score, is because I traded in a 2.0T EOS with DSG for it. My girlfriend FELL IN LOVE with a Passat loaner. I would say I'm thrilled with about 99% of the Passat. Here's the short list of things that, to me, could be better: the sun visors FEEL cheap. (In the EOS too) the stereo sound quality is inferior to the one I had in the EOS. (disappointed) If this is all a chronic complainer can find, I say it's all good!
Drives great. Features are awful
Cons. Everything else. Radio/GPS is the worst I have ever had. Often when your first turn the car on the radio/nav won't respond to commands for 1-2 minutes. When I put the car in reverse the backup camera doesn't come on for 1-2 minutes also. By that time I am long out of a parking space. Worthless. Navigation won't allow address entry for the first 1-2 min. The Nav entry system is cumbersome and just poorly designed. Remote start is also designed by a moran. You have to start the car and then restart the car when you enter it. VW-carnet is worthless. It is as though Vw just threw somethin
Best car I ever owned
Higher repair and maintenance costs vs. Japanese cars but worth it. Plenty of power on demand excellent gas mileage. I drove from Hartford Ct Portland Me on one tank of gas. The fender sound system awesome especially if you spring for the Sirrius option. Comfortable and smooth ride. I live in a rural area and it handles back roads like a champ. I bought mine used with 63k miles on it. One owner with all service records. 11k out the door, couldn't be more happy.

i selected the old technology 5 cylinder incline 2.5L because of reliable repair history and still gets 32 mpg. too bad engine not offered after 2014 model year. i am pleased with my choice because there have been no repairs other than damage from hitting objects in road. scheduled maintenance was performed at scheduled intervals. 76,000 miles and burns no oil between oil changes. very slight vibration at cold start up which stops when revs drop to idle after 30 seconds.

Really like it.
Elegant design, inside, and out. Understated. Stereo is great. Feel much smaller to drive than it looks. Feels very light, easy to drive. 1.8l turbo has some punch, especially with what feels to be the vehicle's light weight.

Worst vehicle I ever had!!!
Do not lease VWs worst turn in inspection ever and have to pay for all the things that go wrong with it. Every ding scrape and things out. Horrible in the snow. Transmission has multiple problems and dealership and customer service is horrible to deal with. I have told friends and family never to purchase a VW. And now recommend the rest of the world boycott them.

Sold me twice!
I leased the car when we traded in our 2011 Jetta Sportwagon. I was considering the Volvo S-60 and the Ford Fusion and wasn't too keen on this car until I hit the gas in the 280 horse V-6. I have a Corvette and know what acceleration feels like and, let me tell you, this car has it. Despite some torque steer and a tendency to spin the wheels if you get on it too quickly, you're going to surprise some people who thought they were going to outrun somebody's station car. And while I'm on the topic of acceleration, keep your ears open because the engine note is quite pleasant when it's hard at work. It also has plenty of room for the driver and passengers. The back seat is unbelievably roomy and the trunk is cavernous. Yet the car is easy, no, fun to drive. The paddle shifters weren't something I thought I'd use and, for the most part, I don't. But when the spirit moves you, flip that shifter right and row your own: it's a gas. Note: the DSG seems to shift faster at higher revs. Some have said the changes are sluggish but I've noticed that it's a much quicker shift at 4000 rpm's than at 2000. The sound system is better than most, although I don't get the whole "Fender" thing. If it were Bang and Olufsen, or even Bose, it would say something about how far up the scale you were...maybe it's about volume, which this one definitely can handle. Here's the thing, though. It's coming time to think about my next car and I'm seriously considering buying this one. The residual is just over 18 grand and Edmunds says the car is worth almost 22. It's rock solid and I still like that way it looks in Reflex Silver and SEL trim. Maybe I'll go new, although now the Passat is at the top of my list. I think I'd have separation anxiety about leaving this one on the dealer's lot, though.

Gets mistaken for an Audi all the time
I wasn't too wild about the standard Passat but when I saw the sports model at the dealership, I had to have it. The 19" wheels and black top contrasting against the white body and molded, two trim sports seats did the trick. I doesn't the all the tech the newer cars have now but it does support bluetooth so I can pair to my phone and stream media (Pandora) while using the phone's native GPS for directions. I've owned it since new and have just 37k miles on it but it still rides and handles like new. It did go through two recalls, one for the air bags and another which had something to do with the throttle I believe. I personally can see no reason to trade this car as it's seems like one of a kind. Since 2014 I've only seen one other SPORT version on the road and I live and drive around the SF bay area where there are loads of cars on the road everyday. Sadly I don't believe the thing that makes this car so unique (the SPORT package) makes it worth any more money and on that front, this car isn't too good, (at least for the original owner). Buying it second hand is really the right way to go as the car depreciated pretty severely.

Fantastic Vehicl
My 2014 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition lacks nothing! I'm at 119,000 miles and I've done nothing but basic vehicle maintenance! It still looks and drives just like a brand new vehicle! It handles wonderfully and has plenty of zip! Especially if you manual shift through all 5 gears into 6 or drive! Also there's a sport mode which makes it even more fun to drive as it shifts at a higher rpm then normal! This car was definitely made for the autobahn as I've had it going 145 around a long sweeping interstate turn without a problem whatsoever! There's plenty of room on the interior and the heated seats are most excellent! I've honestly got no complaints or issues with this most excellent vehicle!

Worst vehicle I've ever had
The NAV is not user friendly. When you enter the car, the media plays whatever it wants to even if your apps aren't open. The display changes from whatever setting you've selected to show that you're making a call and to whom you're calling; so if you had it set on the speed you have to change it back after starting or ending the call. As soon as the a/c was out of warranty the compressor went out. I have had it replaced less than a week and it's gone out again. Besides the fact that my TDI has no value because of the lies the company told, the car is a piece of crap.

Manual must be better
The car is dynamical and reliable. However, maybe its software requires some correction. This is motivated by following. Usually, the car's key is turned in its full range to start the car's engine. My car works well and there is no any warning signs on its instrumental panel. However, once when I turn the key only to get 12v ( listen radio), the warning signs 1. battery; 2. engine malfunction; 2. EPC appeared. These are serious warning signals. However, when I turned the key to start the engine and it started these warning signals disappeared. A reasonable question: is the car healthy or it should be brought to a dealership to repair? The VW administration was unable to answer this question. If this a mistake in the manual , which should indicate : read warning signals when engine starts or its software should be fixed .

Best one in years
Absolutely NO problems. Excellent performance, responsive and all the acceleration you need when merging into high speed highways BEFORE I found I was lied to by VW about ecology. Modifitction is expected to ruin economic advantage of the vehicle which was why I bought it. I won't be holding on to this one and it will be my last.

Transmission problem
Transmission had shifting problems at just over 52000 miles, had to have it fixed. Recently discovered the leather drivers seat has wear n tear on left side of seat as I get in n out of car. Now the drivers side window button broke. Seems a mix of big and little things are going bad.

What the heck?
This car is fun to drive and gets good fuel economy. However, it has a loud cabin and wind noise is loud. The fuel economy is great. However, the back up camera and audio system are so slow to respond, you want to just punch the system in frustration. My Ipod cable doesn't work after two cables were tried, my back up camera takes 15-20 seconds to kick on when I put the car in reverse. Lastly, for a vehicle that is fully loaded and MSRP's in the $32K range, it doesn't come with a USB Port? Even a work truck Silverado comes with 2 USB ports. Overall, I can't wait to get rid of this car. I will never buy or recommend a VW product after this experience.
Why did Volkswagen join the bad car business?
If you recall German car manufacturers being the A game, think again. Those were the good old days. A VW on your grill meant stability and longevity. Now it means the owner of this car is a sucker. Rat-a-tat 4 cylinder engines in a mid-sized car probably should be available in this new techno world but it hasn't been fine tuned in the VW. The DSG modeled transmissions that they have managed to sneak past the NHSTA isn't fooling everyone and should send someone to prison this time. If you want a car with room for adults in the back-seat and reliable gas mileage, look for something else. I hear Honda and Toyota are also following the new "cheat the consumer" modeling of VW, so car shopping is going to take a while to get your money's worth... I actually bought a CPO which doesn't mean a damn thing. The car has been back to the dealer 8 times in 3 months because I can hear and feel the supposed AUTOMATIC transmission shifting gears, HARD. Does this car have a clutch? "Absolutely not (they say), if it had a clutch it would say so. The car has to learn how you drive so that it can respond correctly." Really? What kind of transmission LEARNS how you drive? And if that is the case, what does the car do when someone else drives my car? I know what a bad transmission is. I know when a clutch is going bad. What do I do when a clutch goes bad in my automatic transmission? The dealer doesn't know. VW's very own customer care center doesn't know. The most problematic part is no one cares. It's your car now lady!

Unfortunately, I'm slowly finding out the things about this particular vehicle that I intensely dislike, no dipstick to check the transmission fluid levels, an antiquated motor oil filtration system, plastic shield covering the transmission fluid and crankcase pans which creates more problems. Other issues which are troublesome for me would be changing the transmission fluid which my local VW service has informed me that the price will be approximately $375 dollars, along with $52 dollars for a fuel cap, coupled with a myriad of other problems, simply leads me to a conclusion that this 2014 Passat Wolfsburg Edition 2.5 must have had its genisis in hell. I would have given a negative zero for this rating, but that was not available.

Burns oil, shifts very poorly and although it is a gas engine it has slowly become as loud as a diesel. Please do not buy this car if you value reliability.
