Used 2007 Volkswagen Passat Sedan Consumer Reviews
I can't believe it
Long story short; I used to own a company and drove MB as a rule. Now things are very different so I still wanted German and went with a VW. The top part of the engine has been rebuilt twice as the timing chain broke twice. Now I was a LITTLE late on a couple oil changes; like 2k miles, not THAT big of a deal (for other cars). Now with 78k miles the car is starting to tick again and it is under 3 years old. Now I have driven a lot of miles but drive (slow) due to some points I drive the speed limit. Take off NORMAL, stop normal, no driving fast or racing. Also because funds are tight I need to get the most out of the gas. I average (for the past 8k miles) 23.7 mpg.
A great value for those wanting a "driver's" car.
Performance is excellent for a front wheel drive car. Tiptronic with paddle shifters makes you do "naughty" things behind the wheel. Well bolstered heated leather seats hug you. And yet, a very safe, family oriented mid-sized sedan. Stiff suspension will not agree with those who want a "cushy American" ride. Fuel economy is great (30 mpg on highway in summer - if you're not being naughty). Sound system is outstanding. Instrumentation is outstanding. Trunk is enormous - folding down the rear seats gives you nearly 6 feet of platform. Front quarter panels rust at the top of the wheel arch ... VW replaces them when "perforation" happens before 12 years.

Super VW
The Passat 3.6 4Motion is an excellent car to drive. It has stylish looks. It's a great jump forward over the previous model. A job well done.
Before you buy
Bought this car 11 days ago. Took it back after 24 hrs w/ ignition coil issue (I was merging onto the highway and lost all power) Took it back again today and had all 4 spark plugs replaced. I have had check engine lights coming on and off everyday. The gas cap light keeps coming on as well. I really like the way the car looks and drives but I'm nervous about the cost to own it. I did buy a power train warranty which unfortunatly does not cover electrical issues. I would recommend having a mechanic that knows VW look at the car very closely before you buy it. Lots of little problems equal one big headache.
Too many problems, bye bye vw!
A fun car to drive when it's not in the shop. As most people have noted electrical issues are constant and irritating. For me, it has been trunk latch issues - trunk won't latch or pops open when driving. Dealer took 3 visits to fix. Mirrors move unpredictably, sometimes while driving. A/c failed and whole compressor needed replacement. Every time the temp drops below zero the steering controls short meaning the whole unit must be replaced. All of this is under warranty but what a waste of time. I can't wait to get rid of this lemon - very sad considering this is my 4th vw. But never again!
